      @@thefireplacewhisperer7211 My town house is 1300 sq feet. Plus an extra 600 square foot basement. You think this unit can heat up that space??? My town house is in Greenbelt MD on the East Coast.

      @@kevinwilmore3604 This model is now discontinued, but you could look at the Viva model by Rais. (The Rais wood units will be coming back soon, as they are waiting for updated EPA tags)
      The Viva might work well as a main source of heat for your home. Some considerations: Is the stove going on the main floor or basement? How good is the insulation in your home? What do you have for backup heat? What temperature do you like your home to be?
      Hope that helps!

    I'd like to purchase a stove of this size that has the ability to turn. (which this rais apparently can do with an add-on) Is this now no longer in stock and do you know of any other companies that make such a product. This is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks!

      Hi Jody,
      RAIS now makes the Viva units that allow you to rotate. We carry a Stuv and a Hearthstone that are both cylindrical and can rotate.
      Here is a link to my website that I’ve been working on. fireplacewhisperer.com/collections/wood/rotates
      We can ship a stove to you, but have some limitations to that. Let us know if you need help with that.

    Hey Chris,
    So does this Rondo have the two smoke baffle plates installed? Watching the video it doesn't look like it which is confusing me when you stuff the paper up top to get the air flow.

    • @thefireplacewhisperer7211
      @thefireplacewhisperer7211  3 роки тому

      I see what you mean. The angle of the camera doesn’t show the baffle. I do remember a baffle there with a thin slit across the top that I had put the piece of paper.

      PaulBodyBuilder Rais has discontinued a handful of their wood stoves here in the states because they don’t meet the new EPA requirements. Soon, the wood Viva and Q Tee II will be the only available options. The Q Tee II is bigger than the Rondo. Take a look at: us.rais.com

    This is what I was talking about. A nice complete overview of the stove. Maybe a little too basic for anyone that has any wood stove experience, but great for the novice. I notice you didn't say anything about ash removal. It doesn't look like this stove has an ash pan, which would have been a great thing to put in all that empty space below the firebox.

    • @commonsense246
      @commonsense246 5 років тому

      It does have a small ash pan, pretty dinky but it's inside the glass

    • @thefireplacewhisperer7211
      @thefireplacewhisperer7211  3 роки тому

      The Rondo is one of the smallest units they make. They did replace the Rondo with the Viva model, which is about the same size. You could look at the Morso line up, or the Jotul F 602 if you need smaller.

    is it not risky to lower the "air intake" to reduce the flame? somewhere on a rais manual i think i red that it could be dangerous.... maybe i'm wrong. They always told me "to light the fire set it on 1, and once it's burning after 10 minutes set it on 2". but when i set it on 2, there is so much intake of air, that the wood burn out very very quickly.

    • @thefireplacewhisperer7211
      @thefireplacewhisperer7211  3 роки тому

      I’ve not heard of it being risky to burn on low. I would recommend full air during startup or when re-loading.
      If there was a risk of burning on low, manufacturers would make a change and not allow it.

      @@thefireplacewhisperer7211 i have a Rais Arena. on the manual, under the "Building the fire" chapter it's written:
      -----QUOTE-----
      Add 1 or 2 split logs on the kindling fire and allow enough time for them to catch on fire (about 2 - 5 minutes). Now close the door completely, and push the air control handle to Position 2.
      Further adjustments to the air control may be made later on if necessary. Never reduce the air intake to Position 0 while logs are still burning. This will cause incomplete combustion (creosote), risk of explosion, and soot on the glass.
      -----UNQUOTE-----
      Now, obviously i would not set to to 0 while the flame is still going, however "how far can i push it" near the 0, so to reduce the flame without having the "risk of explosion" ?
      the point is that when i set it on 1, or 2 it burn way too fast. i'd like to have a more slow burn so it last longer.
      If mine was a missunderstanding of the text, i apoloigize in advance.

    • @thefireplacewhisperer7211
      @thefireplacewhisperer7211  3 роки тому +2

      Most manufacturers will allow a small amount air into the firebox even when the adjustment is fully closed.
      I read through the manual and it sounds as if RAIS did not build the Arena that way.
      So think of a burning candle that you put a lid on. If you put the lid on all the way; the flame will go out because a lack of oxygen. When you keep the lid open just a hair, the flame will burn at it’s slowest rate. So yes, keeping closing almost all the way to 0.
      Another thing you can double check is the door gasket to make sure it’s sealing properly. If the gasket is not sealing, air is entering the firebox and the burn rate will remain high.
      Shut the door on a dollar bill and gently pull on the dollar bill. If it pulls out, the gasket is not sealing properly. Do that test around the door in multiple spots. If gasket is not sealing well, then it’s probably time to replace it.
      Hope that helps!

      Hi Mark, if you have a local dealer, they can get you a price from them as I'm unable to drop ship a Rais to you if you have a local dealer. If you don't have a dealer in a 100 mile radius from you, send me an email and I can get you a price and even send a unit to your place. If you're in the Northwest, I have a slightly burned Rondo (the unit in this video) that is selling at a discount. :)

      I researched these stoves a couple years ago. Found the Danish website. The info I recall is this stove was around $4,600. !!!
      My son's employer was tearing down a small upscale 1980s townhouse project in Dallas. He grabbed two of these....one for him, one for me. (Still stored in my shipping container now.
