  • Thanks for joining me on this trip to California. In this video, I will detail a custom king size floating bed frame that I built for one of my subscribers and take you on an amazing journey past the beaches and grapevines to Sequoia National Park where I will show you the largest living organism on planet Earth, the General Sherman.
    I'll update this written description with a lot more very useful information soon. Thanks for your support and patience.

    Three weeks later, and I *still* smile every single time I walk into my bedroom and see *my perfect bed.* Add to that an epic weekend of being alongside Curtis as he experienced a bucket list item (seeing the General Sherman sequoia tree for the first time... biggest living organism on Earth)... AND making what seems like a lifelong friend, well... how can it get better?
    Y'all can see in every comment Curtis makes... he is kind, he is moved by how UA-cam brings together people from around the world, and he genuinely enjoys being generous with his help and expertise. What I love about this DIY channel is that it is so accessible... Curtis builds like my dad taught me (but better): Simple enough to get the job done, calculated enough that people who *know* would be impressed (and people who don't know are blissfully unaware because it functions so well), and pretty enough to have some unique features without tripling the build time. When I saw that combination of factors, plus his eagerness to connect with his followers and help in that genuine way of his... I knew I'd be safe reaching out with this crazy idea... (Skip down to the arrows >>> if you don't want to read the backstory.)
    Backstory: I had injured my shoulder, so I couldn't shop for and transport the wood or build, but still really wanted the underlit floating bedframe I'd been eyeing for almost two years! So I initially reached out to Curtis to see if he could prep all the wood and ship it to me. I knew it would still be cheaper than other bed frames I was looking at in stores. However, the shipping option still cost so much that it was $600 cheaper for me to find Curtis an inexpensive flight and bring him here! Obviously, the least expensive option with my shoulder would be to buy the *insanely inexpensive* build plans from Curtis and pay someone locally to do it, but during our first phone call to discuss this out of the box travel idea, it became clear that this trip should definitely happen!! Both of us would benefit...
    Curtis would get to learn about new, entrepreneurial ways of thinking (I've been self-employed my whole life), like how flying someone across the country to build me a bed can get him a chance to check off a bucket list item, WHILE earning him money, while hopefully inspiring other folks to bring him to their towns, to inject more travel+ fun+ new perspectives+ new connections+ new conversations into his life. While here, we got to talk about his huge learning curve and accomplishments on YT... he is now teaching me a more effective and systematic way to manage my YT channel (and I have a video with 9.8 million views!). And after all those productive talks on all those hours of car rides, we then got to experience some pretty exquisite nature in California. I'm SO glad we both said yes to this amazing opportunity together... YT definitely provided a way for two people who never would have met to become fast friends.
    >>> Curtis was creative; he came up with 3 different designs, taking into account every special request I had. He got on each planning call with ideas drawn out and emailed to me ahead of time. He was accommodating; even when I remembered new details (and so had new requests) after his initial plan, he was able to be flexible, and gracious about it the whole way! He really was committed to making this build successful, meaning... exactly what I wanted. He was super calculated (regularly doing math that I can't do) and prepared. His verbal skills exceed his math skills... he checked in with me as the build progressed, he listened, and in times someone else might have gotten frustrated, he took it in stride. We even had some (not serious) misunderstandings, and his empathy and listening and course-correction is what really showed me how lucky I was to stumble on such a freakin' awesome new friend!!! Dude. He was a STRANGER in my HOUSE from far away, willing to crash on an air mattress in my living room, and I felt COMPLETELY comfortable with him. The dude rocks. Quality people.
    I hope more of you want him to build you a bedframe. Meet this epic human. He'll restore your faith in humanity.

      @Erin M. Brandt Sorry for the delay in my reply…I needed time to craft one that could hopefully hold a candle to what you’ve said here. …I had to open a ‘pages’ document to type this up…
      I thought it would be funny to just reply with something short like: I don’t know who this random Erin is, but everything that she claims about me down there is true, haha.
      I think in 3 years I’ll still be looking at pictures and videos of this build. This one turned out far better than I anticipated it would. I’ve never built one on a wood/laminate/shiny/not carpet floor before, so I think that really made the lights pop. The side access storage was a first for me and will likely spawn new ideas for other builds and modifications in the future. I like your ambition in changing the design to challenge my creative ways of thinking.
      Being able to see the General Sherman was one of the most moving things that I’ve experienced in my life. I’ve still got a whole lot of stuff to see and do before my life is over, but this was definitely one of them and it was far, far and away much more mind blowing than I could have ever imagined. The rest of the forrest and the trees are astonishing as well, very much worth the trip to see them, but, with the limited time that I had left before we had to haul it back to LAX, the General Sherman was what I needed to see and experience. Worth every single dime and ounce of effort to get there for any person reading this right now.
      Erin will unquestionably be my newest lifelong friend. As I said in the video, this was a wonderful experience and I’d love to do it for her or anyone else that wants me to come and build them a floating bed frame or other item again any time. Erin, you are a fascinating person and a terrific host. I very much appreciate you being the caliber of person that you are. There is just no way that God isn’t real after having been blessed with an opportunity that you gave me. Thank you.
      I definitely take the time to reply to every single comment that I see, even if it is days later, I will take the time to reply to you if you leave me a comment on any of my videos. I’m speechless at all of these glowing things that you have said about me. Thank you for this. I’m just as real and genuine as they come and I try to infect people with my knowledge and happiness.
      I learned a lot of things on this trip, many of which I will get to use down the road in life, both in the short term and long. I was able to share some hopefully pretty useful things with Erin that she can apply to her UA-cam channel and maybe other areas of her life as well. UA-cam has blessed me many, many times over, but this was very much the best one. I’ll be grateful forever for saying ‘yes’ to this trip.
      I’m a creative woodworker and work very hard to produce results that exceed those of my customers. As is usually the case, *especially* whenever I am making a UA-cam video, yes, we did run in to some unfortunate happenings during our build that were able to be rectified without any major delays or expenses, thank God.
      Again, I can’t thank you enough for not being an organ harvester. I was legit half scared until I wasn’t. I feel just as blessed to have met you as you do to have met me Erin. I want to say this was a once in a lifetime experience, but I hope whoever is thinking about doing what you did and is still reading this will reply to my comment here with *their* offer to bring me some place new. Let’s see what happens. Talk to you and everyone again soon!

    That sequoia tree has to be protected by snipers,; that’s a national treasure!

    • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Рік тому +1

      @Don Distrito For real though, whenever there are forrest fires in the area, they actually do go and wrap the bottom parts of the trunks in some type of aluminum(or other) metal sheeting/shielding to protect them. As well they should. This is a *global* treasure. It should be protected forever.

      @@CurtisMadeIt it has cooled down a lot actually since u we’re here (my part anyway) it was about 110/115 daily then not it’s been mid 80’s- this time of year we have another couple ups and downs where it hits high 90’s low 100’s right before fall

      @Joseph Romero Okay, okay. Glad you’ve gotten some relief. It stays pretty consistently hot here in Houston until we get a couple of weeks of suppressed heat where the oven setting is just on ‘warm’, then, it’s back to baking again for the rest of the year. Stay cool my brother.

      @Tanya Gaines Hey Tanya, thanks for your question. Likely not, unfortunately. If there is anyone around you with a ‘drum sander’, they may let you make a couple of passes on their machine. This will be super quick and easy, but they are gonna charge you and you will have to haul the lumber to them(best to make the cuts first). What size bed frame are you looking to build? Reach me on Instagram realc_love1 and we’ll make a plan for your build. Talk to you again soon. 🤝

      @Justin Dickinson Hey Justin, thanks for your question. Those were threaded inserts for the adjustable height feet that Erin wanted on her bed frame. The floor this was sitting on was somewhat uneven and she wanted to make sure the frame was sitting nice and level and supported on all sides. • @CurtisMadeIt
      @CurtisMadeIt  Місяць тому

      @isabellasanchez8034 Hey Isabella, good morning and thank you for your continued support, you are the real hero here!
      It's gonna depend on your situation...how you want your bed frame to look and function, but I'm personally more comfortable with the King size FBF video version...that's the other video. I modified it to add a headboard(video posted on this channel) and I thought that was pretty cool so if you've got the time/effort/energy to do so, the headboard really gives you a very large sense of accomplishment when you get it done. Use "L" shaped corner brackets to secure the base to the frame. Use all untreated lumber...I use 2x6's for the base and frame but the base can be 2x8/2x10/2x12 to allow for more storage area if you want or need...use 3" screws at the wood junctions. Use a black fitted sheet to cover the wood instead of painting or staining it...this is the fastest, easiest, and most cost effecient way to cover the frame if you don't want to see the wood...this will really make the lights pop and enhance the 'floating' effect. Pre-drill all your holes to keep your wood from splitting while you are driving your screws. Hopefully some of this helps...feel free to ask any other questions you may have or reach me on instagram Curtis_made_it and I'll be available to help as needed. I really appreciate your time, interest in, and support on this channel, I mean it 🤝 I hope you have a great day and a safe build when you get there. Talk again soon.
