I just thought I'd let you know that I'm going to redo this video from scratch as I still have the original footage. I've had a few comments about the music being a distraction which is a valid point. Once it has been uploaded. I'll post the link. I'll be keeping this video up as well. It isn't a T40, it's a T45. Trust me, don't learn the hard way and cut corners. You'll end up stripping the hole over time. And then sell it to people like me who have to deal with it 😂 I bought a brand new sump plug for the astra and a T45 fits perfectly.
Vauxhall has changed the oil specification for their 1.4 Turbo engines. Spec used to be 5w30 C3 Dexos 2 but there was a bulletin a couple of years back changing this to 5w30 Dexos 1. Try buying it though. Vauxhall will not sell you any over the counter and most garages will just bung anything in. Best get hold of Morris Multivis ADT DV 5w30 Dexos 1 via Auto Vaux online.
Also best to unplug something (coil pack) so engine doesn't fire/run so it just turns engine over on starter only, as the oil filter is still dry after the change. That's best way to get the oil round filter and engine again before really running it
yea right and you end up with tons of errors on the dash, so trip to the computer guy to erase it...not smart at least on this Astra....usually there some oil left in the engine anyways between bearings and such, so it wont hurt, you can match this "damage" same as one cold winter morning start
F1 teams only put the bare minimum of oil in their engines (although they do rebuild them more than we would !) Your dip stick shows the min & max marks so any level above minimum is safe for your engine, unless you're planning a track day
@@Parknest obviously i know that much , i suppose it depeneds on the year of the car . love to see a vid on how one does it for the astra j .2009 to 2015
Gearbox oil should be changed every 40,000 to 50,000 miles or 5 years which ever comes first. Or if you have a preferred time to do it, follow that. Capacity of the gearbox is 2. 4 litres, but bear in mind that about 200ml is kept behind in the gearbox. Generally people tend to slightly overfill by about 200ml to ensure that the 5th and 6th bearing get adequate lubrication. Also try to use an oil that is Zinc free because Zinc, over time, absorbs water from the atmosphere

Yes, the music is a bit loud when I opened it in my editing software. I've redone it but I'd have to upload it again as a separate video. A T40 bit seemed to fit. I didn't try a T45 so I don't know if it would fit. I've got access to the car so I'll have to check it out at some point.
Hi, thank you for the video, i am from spain and i have another similar car. I would like to know if you have already changed the air filtrer and if you can show us with another video about it. thank you so much!!!
@@Parknest hi thanks for the video very helpful as i waa worried about how to Unscrew the Oil filter and Refit it and do you know how to sort out the dreaded Position lighting error message on the dashboard ? As comes on on this model And all the lights are fine and all been changed and light Error still pops up ? Many thanks in advance mate.
I'm glad it has helped. Yes, the general principle is the same. I'd recommend using either oil from your local dealer or a decent aftermarket brand such as Millers.
Parknest hi thanks again for the reply I went for the genuine 5w30 Dexos 1 from Vauxhall with MANN filter and new sump plug. The oil isn't cheap but as you will know but it's worth the peace of mind and the tick in the book.
I’d let the hot oil drain for an hour with the filter removed. You should top up the oil then run the engine for a few seconds as the filter will then fill up and the oil level will drop slightly. Always change the air filter at the same time as the 40,000 miles interval, for the air filter change, is far too long.
This wasn't my car and has since been sold. I change the air filter as part of the annual service with my cars. Best to do it before the MoT so it gets through the emissions part of the test. It has always worked for me.
I Did an Oil And Filter Change on my 2013 Opel Astra 1.7 Cdti Yesterday Pretty much the same process! You’ll need a T45 for the Sump plug and a 32mm Socket for the Filter Housing and the Filter is on the Back of the Engine at the aTop.
@@liborkotek13 I bought it from the local Vauxhall dealer and I can't remember how much I paid for it at the time. I've seen it on Amazon & eBay for about £40 for 5 litres which includes delivery. You can get the same spec engine oil for just over £30 for 5 litres at Halfords or Euro Car Parts.
The music volume didn't seem too loud and my commentary can be still clearly heard. There was a compressor running in the background which I thought would be more annoying than the music that I edited in.
I think it was just over 4 litres. I had to service this car recently when the Code 82 message came up again. Edit: It has the A14XER engine which takes 4 litres of engine oil.

engine at operating temperature, leave 15 min off then check (that's what manual says), but when you changing oil you can't do this way, you must pour exact amount or close, then after one drive check for proper level, safe side better to pour less so you can ad a tap more if needed than too much

this is my job at the weekend for the other half. Great video on showing how to do it!
I would suggest using a funnel when pouring new oil and rags when changing the oil filter.
a big funnel

@@Parknest no offense intended...
No worries. You're not to first to say that.
That was painful watching him take twice as long as it should have taken. Read the book it tells you how much oil is needed. Handy thing those books.
Great video 🙂 just to ask,why did you put oil between min and max on dip stick? Why not on maximum level?
Anywhere between the minimum and maximum is fine so I went for the middle.
@@Parknest thanks bro,i will do the same following your video, very usefull👌👌
Cause oil expands as it heats up so if u fill it to the maximum then it can overfill when the oil gets temperature

did you use torx 40 or 45 buddy to undo oil drain plug
At 0:24 I say that it is a T40. This particular Astra is a 1.4 petrol.
It's a T40 that has a built in oil seal. Probably best to have one as a spare incase you take it off and discover the seal is compromised

Hi what’s oil filter part number for Opel astra 2013
It depends on the engine. Try putting your registration number through a site such as Euro Car Parts or GSF.
Hi can I ask what engine this is? Petrol, diesel, 1.4 1.7 etc
It is a 1.4 petrol. Engine code is A14XER
