Awesome video. My wife and I purchased a 1972 tri-cabin 41 Tollycraft immaculate condition. We have her on the hard in Sooke. She came with twin 440 Chryslers when we did the sea trial and later moved her to Sooke from Nanaimo we were able to run 15 and 16 knots awesome smooth, we had our mechanic with us. We consider ourselves as very lucky to find this yacht. She will be undergoing a major refit this spring and hope to her on the water by mid to late summer.
beautiful yacht ! i owned a 26 1974 model flybridge tolly, it did excellent in heavy seas, being stopped n fishing it rolled a whole lot was a problem if passengers got sea sick, it was a very sea worthy boat that i always had faith in n felt completely safe, it was very well maintained of course
Wow, that was a very informative video. I’m still learning about my 1981 48’ Tollycraft and your tips about a haul out were great. Our boat runs with the 3208 cat so you are right about topping out at around 13 knots, but we are happy to cruise at 10. The boat came with passive roll chocks which have made for a pretty stable ride. Again thanks for posting hope you will do more video’s on the Tollycraft 48.
Sure many sportfishers are delivered long distances, you need to see what prolonged low load operations will do to the engines... typically high performance marine diesels want to see high enough load factors and EGT to keep them happy. Often they run out to the fishing grounds at 80% load, troll around at idle all day and blast home so the 'regime' is acceptable. Prolonged low load operation without the regular 'blast' likely will result in expensive issues down the road...
@@boattguyafloat Yikes! Out of my league. Would there be any options for a hard top at a lower price point? Perhaps not fully enclosed with fibreglass? Thanks for your time.

Yep I have seen the modification to your boat. Im on the way to LA to bring a 48 from there up to SFO so should be some content to come....
This is great. I wish more trawler forums would discuss hull shapes. Also could you conceivably “trawl” for distance cruising in a sport fish? Thanks.

More Power! 30 knots desired at flank.
I'd have to put more glue under my hairpiece!
Just curious do you have a rough idea on what the hard top would cost to install?
To replicate this one would be in excess of 100k.

C.P. !! How cool ! Sorry. I like trains AND boats ! Interesting about doing the lift. Never thought about that ! Eeks !!
Hmmmmm no hard chine , that might make her roll a bit more,,
Yes she is a roller, well spotted. We have, however, since installed a set of active fin stabilizers....
