Yeah, the water is cold. Even in summer you can get hypothermia. The waves are different it seems on the Great Lakes. It's probably just perception, but they seem closer together than the ocean when the wind gets up. Not big rollers, but tight frequency nut thumpers.
@@oledahammer8393, the waves ARE different on the Great Lakes. The period is shorter, meaning that the faces are steeper and they break at a lower height. And God forbid you're at the end of a long fetch (like at the South end of Michigan with a north wind blowing or at the East end of Erie when the wind is out of the west). The Lakes get an event called a Sietch, where the water literally gets blown/sloshed down to end of the lake so the water level at the "top" drops by several feet while the water pushes inland at the "bottom" which can leave you hitting stuff at the "low" end and getting washed on shore at the "high." Every Laker knows it to be true. It's different and you have to pay attention to those differences.
Did 3 tours in the Great Lakes. Small boat station, Icebreaker (140ft) and our HQ in Cleveland. I've also been on two different 210's out of Florida and experienced a hurricane on both (81 and 98). I rather ride out a hurricane at sea then deal with the confused seas on the lakes any day. Even on a ship designed for heavy seas, pulling out of the Sturgeon Bay ship canal into Lake Michigan while there's a winter storm flowing from the south, makes riding out a hurricane seem like spring storm. Unless you are 100% sure you can make it across before the weather turns bad, best to just stay at the pier. I've spent days/weeks out at sea looking for those to took the chance, and failed. Beautiful boat. That boat can handle quite a bit on Lake Michigan or Superior, but if you fail to respect those waters, they will kill you dead in a big hurry. I've spent some time working in the Carribean and on Lake Superior when I was younger. I was taught and learned to respect those waters. We were out on Superior collecting Lake Trout samples (WI DNR) when a pretty good gale got up, we were in a 65 foot boat in 10-12 footers (Small craft warning was issued). We barely made it back, I thought we were goners. THAT was a harsh lesson! A fishing friend of mine used to go out of Milwaukee with his bass boat and fish salmon over there. Well, he never hit any real wind over there and got overconfident....he was out there this summer with his longtime girlfriend and good buddy fishing Salmon and the wind got up...bass boats are NOT made for that water! My friend and his girlfriend were both pretty overweight and certainly not fit, neither were wearing life jackets, his buddy on there with them was. Wind got up, waves got big...boat swamped. My friend and his girlfriend both perished, their friend that had a life jacket barely survived with his life, even he needed resuscitation when the coast guard got to him. He was fortunate they got an emergency call out. They failed to respect that big water and paid with their lives. God bless you Brian the "big guy". Super nice both of them, a senseless loss.

I agree. There were some other small things we really didn’t bring up and primarily focused on the larger items to massage the price some. In the end I feel we got a very well cared for boat and paid a bit of a premium for that and that’s ok.
Looking forward to following you on this incredible journey! Husband and I just sold our house and we’re waiting for the border to open so we can come to the U.S. and buy our loop boat. Hope to see you on the water!
Let me make a suggestion on the music you have in the background while talking. I also noticed it on your intro video. Music is too loud as background. You might want to lower the music volume....otherwise, good vids so far up to your departure video.
Yeah we are working on figuring all this stuff out. Hopefully we will get better. The background noise issue we are still trying to figure out too. But thanks for the advice. We want these to be good for everyone for sure.
Lol, the broker is clearly saving his bacon liability wise. A real Michigander cares not about Mother Nature, or weather forecasts. He/She knows good and well there is a 60% percent chance, the weather person is going to be right 80% of the time. Great video! I’m in the market for a boat to make The Great Loop.
We were really surprised how much we liked the light interior. Now having had the boat for a while we are totally sold on the light interior. Spending so much time aboard we really want and now are thankful for the airy feel and colors.
Nice channel...looking forward to following. I boat out of Grand Haven...and Lake Mi is its own beast!! I always check multi sites for weather and waves.....!!!
I grew up on Lake Erie. We had a 30ft 1989 Celebrity Sport Cruiser with twin 4.3 engines. We ran out of Dunkirk, NY to Port Colburne, Ontario and it was 15+ft waves. Pretty much ruined boating for me. I didn't go the next year but it was smooth. My dad took that boat out in some nasty stuff.
Lake Erie can be a quick and nasty lake for sure. You really should reconsider being out on the water. Hopefully our journey can inspire you to try again. Thanks for following along.
Congrats! Just starting my family (pregnant wife), hoping/praying I'd be able to afford something like this before my ?son turns 10. Congrats again and safe voyage!
Congratulations on your future child!! Such good times raising our kids! Those are great years cherish them before you know it they are grown up. Don’t rush it. Your trip of a lifetime will come when the time is right. This has definitely taken us some time to gear up for this adventure. Thanks for following along!
Two of my parents friends died when their 32ft Trojan sank crossing Lake Michigan. They were seasoned mariners. I lived on Lake Michigan in Grand Haven until I left home at 18. Someone lost their life at the public beach almost every summer disregarding warnings. One of them was a good friend of mine who was 17 at the time. "WE DID IT ANYWAY!" Seeing people be arrogant on the Great Lakes is absolutely infuriating to me.
Gosh, I love those yacht boats. If I was younger and single, I'd be living on my yacht... being I make pretty good money somewhat. Boating is exciting to me. Adventure!! I had a little 16ft ski boat once and me and my wife went out on it about 5:00 in the evening traveled about 20 miles to see the fire works on the water beside the North Carolina battle ship in the capefear. It got dark. When head back and we got lost in the inlet. Full moon was out. It was beautiful, but I keeper on riding. My wife fell asleep. Finally made it to the channel at 3:30 in the morning. Long story short. It was an adventure. It was scary but we both had fun when we look back. Oh...no navigation systems. Lol
Yikes!! Always a little scary when you get turned around especially in the dark. But agreed once you get to the other side you hopefully can switch fear up into “oh yeah that was exciting!” Thanks for following along on our adventure. We will have more videos coming out shortly. We have been just to busy with making memories and exploring. Lol.
Hey Jon. Sorry about that we are still learning the editing thing. Check out our other videos I think we are getting a handle on it now. Thanks for joining us on our epic adventure.
No that isn’t ours. We are still out here braving the waterways around the eastern US and Canada. Thanks for following along on our journey!! More videos coming soon.
I don’t get the warning. A vessel that size will suck up ten foot seas and spit them out. You guys are living a dream held my many. Congrats on the success in life that put you in a position to own such a yacht. She is a beauty. I’m nearing retirement, and a life on the water is in our future, but at about half scale from what you guys have. I want the biggest cruiser I can find but still trailerable, which with most manufacturers is about 28’ max. Gonna be cramped quarters, but we want the ability to drop it in any body of water we may want to visit. Best to you and your family and enjoy that beauty.
Thank so much. I hope you guys get your plan underway and out onto the water. Life is the adventure you make it the key is make it your own adventure. Every adventure is an awesome adventure. The adventure not taken is the one that sucks. Thanks for hanging with us on ours.
It will spit out something alright, stress cracks and messed up interior. Most people don’t understand what 10’+ seas are and have no idea of the joy that the crew has enduring them. I to would’ve made this crossing with the information hat was presented and equipment that he had.
10 footers does not sound pleasant, but 2 - 4 footers with a fresh breeze and clear sky's and nothing nasty predicted.....that's nothing for that boat.
@@smokendtI’m a lobster fishermen on the bay of fundy. 10 foot seas happen fairly often for us in the winter especially. Our boats don’t stress crack, but sometimes they fall out from under our feet. Have fun on the lake.
Thanks for following us on our crazy adventure. More videos coming soon. It can get very serious quickly. While we did ignore the warnings we did carefully re-examine before continuing on.
When in doubt, come about. Don't let your ego prevent you from turning around. When the seller and the broker are telling you not to go you should heed there advice. They know way more than you. You got lucky and made it but the thing is, this will embolden you to think you and the boat are more capable than they are. How you you feel if it kicked up and the boat was lost along with your family and friends. Could you live with that? The Captain is always responsible for the safety of all on board.
Great video guys, loved your mini experience. Very informative as i am also on a verger of buying a boat myself and doing adventures just like yours. Enjoy you loop trip and have a safe journey. Question: could please say what is the company of the boat.
@@tredingwater144 Never allow the "background" music to become a distraction or compete with the Camera's talking or spoken audio track. With a strong clear camera audio track that is not picking up wind and engine noise, the volume of the back ground music track would have been borderline a bit to loud. But with the weak camera audio voice track the background music in this one was way too loud...distracting...fighting with the voice track. I agree. There were some other small things we really didn’t bring up and primarily focused on the larger items to massage the price some. In the end I feel we got a very well cared for boat and paid a bit of a premium for that and that’s ok.
Also thanks for following along on our adventure.
The Music is Too Loud
Congrats on good crossing and successful first cruise. have fun with the new boat. I look forward to watching more videos of your cruises.
Thanks for watching!! We love it so far!
Awesome job to captain and crew for successful crossing! Keep safe!
Thanks! Hope you subscribed and can follow along on our adventure.
@@tredingwater144 yep subbed! can't wait to see more loop fun!
life vests on the forward deck, please. Inflatables are comfortable. I'm an avid great lakes sailor and a former auxiliary member.
That's the perfect boat for the loop.
Thanks Tony and thanks for following along on our adventure.
Looking forward to following you on this incredible journey! Husband and I just sold our house and we’re waiting for the border to open so we can come to the U.S. and buy our loop boat. Hope to see you on the water!
Thanks for hanging in there with us on our journey. Hopefully you can find your perfect boat and get underway sooner than later!!
We're almost in the "same boat" lol. subbed. best of luck guys.
Thanks so much. We are going to need it. Lol. Thanks for following along!!
Keep trying your luck and see what happens. Roughly 10,000 shipwrecks and 30,000 dead in the great lakes. Much bigger boats than that.
Great video
Thanks we are by no means pro's but we are having fun pretending to be. LOL!
Word of advice, Lake Michigan goes from 0 to 100 in no time! Like the water is like glass and then there's 18'+ swells, be intelligent and safe!
Beautiful boat. Best of luck in your travels.
Thanks we are going to need it!! Lol.
Great video 👍
Nice boat.
Congratulations.
Gorgeous boat, I like the lighter interiors also. $35 for a parking ticket, they are up to $100 here in LA.
Thanks a lot. Also thanks for following along. We will have more content coming soon!
We were really surprised how much we liked the light interior. Now having had the boat for a while we are totally sold on the light interior. Spending so much time aboard we really want and now are thankful for the airy feel and colors.
God Bless you and your beautiful family sir 🙏❤️
I work in South Haven. I've been to the Dutch Village many a time.
Nice channel...looking forward to following. I boat out of Grand Haven...and Lake Mi is its own beast!! I always check multi sites for weather and waves.....!!!
Thanks for following along. We have found windy and predict wind to be our preferred apps so far.
@@tredingwater144 My Radar is another good one!!! Good Luck!
@@davidmilitz2275 just downloaded the app. Thanks.

I’ve crossed Lake Michigan more than half a dozen times . If you research the weather and monitor , it’s not terrible.
Mckinly marina…thats where i have my boat
Two of my parents friends died when their 32ft Trojan sank crossing Lake Michigan. They were seasoned mariners. I lived on Lake Michigan in Grand Haven until I left home at 18. Someone lost their life at the public beach almost every summer disregarding warnings. One of them was a good friend of mine who was 17 at the time. "WE DID IT ANYWAY!" Seeing people be arrogant on the Great Lakes is absolutely infuriating to me.
I like your channel. I wish you would not play music, or at least turn it way down so I could hear what you are saying better. Thanks for sharing
Hi Mike. Thanks. We are new to this and are working on that exact issue. Hopefully we get better with time. Thanks for joining us on our journey!!
Lol.
Congratulations on the new boat. But the music was so loud missed a lot of what was being said.
Hey Jon. Sorry about that we are still learning the editing thing. Check out our other videos I think we are getting a handle on it now. Thanks for joining us on our epic adventure.
Nice video, great boat. I could do without the music though.
I just saw a 480 for sale in Grand Haven. I was wondering if it was yours?
No that isn’t ours. We are still out here braving the waterways around the eastern US and Canada. Thanks for following along on our journey!! More videos coming soon.
Never can trust those weather people. LOL Did that broker say he got in trouble listening to the weather forecast?
Lol. I know right. Everything we looked at we felt we could proceed. So we did. Lol. Thanks for following along on our adventure.
This biat 16 foit waves easy
we have been on the great lakes in bad weather - never again.

Sneh we have a 2002 Sea Ray 480 Sedan Bridge. We say get out there and explore our great world. Thanks for following along on our adventure.
Congrats on the nice boat and glad you had a smoother ride than predicted by the experts.
@@timhardman4764 thanks for the feedback. We are new to video production so the feedback is appreciated we are working on improving the audio and figuring out what works. Hopefully the videos will improve. Thanks for following along on our adventure!
Wave height isn’t the problem the frequency is
That's right
Congrats to you guys!! Enjoy your new boat an life on the water ✌🏻💗☺️❣️
Thanks so far so good. Thanks for following along.
Watch the weather and don't underestimate the Great Lakes.
Congrats on the boat and thanks for the video. Will go through any other vids you posted as we're planning on a loop. Hoping you don't have constant music over your voices. Would much rather hear you. But, as I have hearing difficulties (cost of military service), most of the time the music was clearer than your voices. Suggestion only, congrats again!
I didn't see any waves over 2ft. Thumbnail was BS.
Thanks for watching! This journey is all about the experiences this was the first one! Thanks for following along.
Cool stuff, Chicago native here and I've always wanted to do that. And I love the west coast of MI, as a sea kayaker who likes bumps I can say it's usually rougher on that side of the lake.
Thanks for taking the time to follow our adventure. Lake Michigan is an incredible body of water. The west side of Michigan is a beautiful shoreline. But the rock faces along your side are equally spectacular.
I would be very careful crossing any of the great lakes I would definitely make sure I had all the charts do I dont end up hitting anything under the waterlines
Ya will be reading about these people….in the Obits section 🤪🤪🤪🤪
Looking forward to following your journey. Please lower the music in the background it’s a little distracting.
Being a boater we’re all looking to live vicariously through your adventure.
"Wishing You Fair Winds and Calm Seas"?
Hi Robert. Do me a favor check out our latest video and give us your thoughts on this topic. We are new to this and we are working on our editing skills. We are also not videographers but we are having fun trying and hopefully people enjoy it. Thanks for following along.
@@tredingwater144 for beginners I think the quality and content of your videos are very good. I have watched your most recent video and I did like how there was quality content and less background music which didn’t drown you out.
Keep it up! You’re only going to get better. Have a great Labor Day weekend and be safe.
Not a Captain I would want to travel with. Poor judgement. Got lucky.
Maybe you should wear a life vest when your on the bow like that by the rails not too good of a boater influence rite there
Must be nice safe travels
What’s your bridge clearance height? It looks way taller than 19’ 6”.
Our electronics fold down which brings our air draft to 17’ 2”
48 Sedan Bridge - what year? Cummins?
Iwe have crossed Lake Michigan in a 350 sea ray sundancer twice and it was fine
Did you get a chance to see the gigantic wooden shoe in Holland? Touristy, but kind of worth a look around.
We did but what we didn’t get to see was the tulip festival or get to tour the tiara yacht factory. 2 things we would have liked to do but the timing was off. Thanks for hanging in there with us on this adventure.
@@tredingwater144 That side of the lake is much nicer IMO. I've spent many summers in that area, but just a bit further north.
I'm interested in your experiences ... BUT the music is louder than your words. I'm definitely NOT interested in a concert.
Thanks for tuning in. We are working on figuring this all out. Hopefully we will get better as we go.
I notice that the boat was in Milwaukee but had Florida registration. What is the story with that?
Previous owner registered it in Florida to save money.
Was waiting to see your mooring skills?
Screw the music
Continue off that cuz you look good
Nice work on the click bait. Should told the old owner to stop being a karen.
A short ways up the Lake it was quite out of control. We got a little lucky that day.
Looks easy to board??
turn the music off during dialogue sheesh
I've always wondered this, why do captains run the radar on a perfectly clear day? What are they looking at? Unless it's night or poor visibility, what's the point?
only way to check the weather is stick your head out the window lol, the sun is always shining bright above the clouds 🤡😜🤙
That’s the truth. Thanks for jumping aboard the epic adventure.
Just for refrence, the camara flattens out what the waves are actually doing by a large % ….it never looks like what it did in person …
How old? How big is fuel tank
What happened to #13? Navigator is one on my wish list
Great presentation and congratulations!!! Love the music..i have no complaints on rhis presentation, seems you have many haters in the comment department lol..
Taking a big boat on a dangerous lake with warnings for a first real trip is plain foolish. Too risky and a lake is not forgiving at all.
Doug in hindsight it was probably a bad idea thank goodness it all worked out. Moving forward we are really paying close attention to the weather windows. It’s awesome you are tuning in to see what other havoc we wreak on this adventure. Thanks for following.
That boat should be able to handle some nasty stuff. I've seen videos of the 560 Sedan crushing big waves.
