- This is a version of "Resolution" from the album "Yumaflex" by Thomas Lang and Conrad Schrenk (guitar). The album is available on itunes, Amazon, CD baby etc. This song is a lot of fun to play. It's in 15/16, has a latin flavor and allows for a lot of interesting interpretation. Enjoy!
I am in the process of learning this. After a week of solid practice, I can now play 0:00 to 0:07 perfectly.
That's the beauty- and challenge of making albums "ye olde way"...We recorded each song a few times- or some just once- and then chose the best take."Old School"! That way you can really capture a vibe and energy. If the music is well rehearsed, then nothing comes close to a real live performance, "warts and all".

How does one attain this level of ability?He was obviously created in a laboratory.Some psycho scientist with an affinity for jazz created a Franken-percussionist.
Those are two 8" Classics Bells. Both the same (medium) and mounted on a straight, regular Hihat stand.
Not on this recording. I wanted a more ambient sound. I use the internal mic's mainly for heavier styles.
I have a 8" Filter China above the 10" tom (hard to see) and the stack cymbals above the 12" tom is a 12" Filter China on top of a 15" Trash Crash (the one with the large holes inside) The 18" to the left of the Sand Ride Cymbal is a 18" Classics Trash Crash.
If you ever get bored of having all that talent, I'd like to borrow it for a while :P

Hi Thomas, just thought id ask, how do you think this album with Conrad compares to your first with him? (Save the robots). They are both awesome and ROCK, just thought i'd ask seeing as a comparison between the traditional gripped playing and the matched grip playing. Cheers. Callum
Excellent. But I don't know why the trend is (if you want to call it that) to hold the sticks so far back. I don't know the advantages/disadvantages, but in the "older"days drummers would hold them much farther toward the center.
Great drumming, but don't like the maple/maha. DW drums for this music. There is not enough clarity and cut with toms and the runs used. Maple is always the best drum here. If it is not broke don't fix it right?

Hi Tom, is there EQ and compression on this mix? Lovely natural drum sound you've captured. I use Audix mic's too... I need to get me a DW kit! They record so well. Amazing playing, as always.

Yes, 15" Byzance Tradidional Medium hat on my left (main Hat) and a 15" Byzance fast hat on my right under the ride. The lar left closed hat is a Byzance 13" Dark Hat and the right foot hat consists of two 8" Classics Bells.
this seems to be broken down da,da,da..da,da,da,da 7/16+8/8 in parts played as 7/8+4/4 :) phases are mega !

I use the May System mainly for heavier stuff. All of the new StOrk album was recorded using the May System but for more "traditional" recordings I use the common external way of miking. Thanks Chris!
I liked the part where he completely destroyed every last beat of the tune. Unreal. So good.
Thomas has gotten very loose since switching to matched grip. Seems even more incredible now.

15/16 is great time signature. Progressive and still enables a straight forward groove.
