Good old memories of my exactly Kuwahara bike. I had two of them. A black one and a silver one. Had the opportunity to experience this BMX bike when here in Colombia there was a fever of ridding Mongoose, Red - Line, GT, BMX bikes as I can remember back in 1982. When the movie ET was released, most of the kid's had Kuwaharas on the movie flying all over the sky. Greeting's from the land of coffee.
I’ve got a 1982 KZ-1 chrome frame and black aluminium parts and I also one exactly like that one you’ve got same black frame with golden yellow anodised aluminium parts that I got in Brazil in which was launched by Caloi in the early 80’s basically the Kawahara re badged “Caloi” this bike is not only super gorgeous but also a very important registry of BMX historical legacy. Well done man . All the best from Australia 🇦🇺
Very cool old bike! I had those grips (or ones just like it) on my 1982 Honda ATC110 when I was a kid. I flipped it backwards and it rolled over me and cracked a rib, the end of the handlebar got me. I think those grips saved me from more broken ribs or a punctured lung.
1979 was the first production year. It has the gussets of a 79 but you say it's dated 1980. So it's probably a very early 1980 built bike. I have two that are date coded "T9J" which = (Tange-November-79).

Your right. 1979 was when they started and they carried on to early 1980. This is an early 1980. 👍
I want to restore my old Kuwahara. It's nearly identical to that one. Mine might be an 81,82. I'll have to check the serial number.
What about the Torker that you have hanging there?
200!
Man ! I need this bike !!! Is it for sale ??
Sorry, It's on the wall. Sorry for the late commit.
