Building and reviewing the 26" Monza BMX bike!
In this video we get a Monza 26" bike in to build for a customer. This was a prefect opportunity to do a review on the Monza. I have seen the Monza online and thought that it looked pretty cool and wanted a closer look so I was happy to put one together when it showed up.

All those issues you had on this build, I had as well with my 24” Monza that I got last year. No/very little grease, no thread locks, over tighten on almost everything. But once that was taken care off…it’s a blast to ride. If you have no experience working on a bike…I would definitely take it to a shop. The history behind Monza is pretty cool though, a bunch of guys who grew up riding BMX decided to start their own bike company and tried to stay true (with modern upgrades) to old school BMX. Yes, not a “core” brand, but the quality in the chrome, welds, and the extra parts makes it a good option…beats GT, Mongoose, and others IMO.
Thank you for sharing.👍
Have you or anyone put a front hand brake on one of these bikes?
Yes. A caliper brake goes on easily but performs poorly. The best way is to find an old MTB bike with similar dimensions that has brake bosses and install V-brakes. Goodluck.👍
I had a bad experience with a bicycle reddit moderator last month and took disciplinary action against them over their misconduct with the help of an Australian administrator .
I had the same experience aswell mate
@@anthonymasluk2295 "dyebhai" , at bikewrench . The offence was insulting messages from him . Therefore his moderator login was locked off for two weeks by an Australian administrator my Dad knows . I am administrator for Railpage , Sydney Trains .
You had problems with Monza?
With Monza?
@@alloutbikes yeah mate but learnt my lesson stick with the bigger name brands
Honestly, I won't be buying a monza, because it is not a core bmx brand! I would love to buy one if it was a genuine bmx brand, and had a 25.4 seat post!
The Problem is the original "core" BMX brand bikes had 22.2 seatposts. This bike you can ride and have fun on it without worrying about messing it up. But I understand that you would rather have original and that is OK. I would rather have original aswell.👍
I had a light blue Trek Domane SL7 in with a cracked seat pillar and cracked forks . It had hit a traffic island .
Monza is made by Tange. If you know your BMX history, Tange is about as core as you get. I own old school BMX’s but my 24” Monza is one of my favourites. I’ts my daily ride.
@@fatsacks70 I don't think the original Tange company exists now .
@@fatsacks70 I know a good bit, of the BMX history. I grew up in that era. There are some old brands that I still know very little about. I will have to research a little about the monza and tange stuff.
Thank you !
My problem has been bent seatposts they dont want to move
I have had a couple of those but they always came out fairly easily.
The bike that started it all. The rest is BMX history. Ace!!
👍
Isn’t that the Cru Jones bike ?
Same frame and year.
Great video and info! FYI I believe this is actually the 1995 Trek 950.. in 1994 the Trek 930 had this same exact color scheme
My old Lesters same as yours had a Bendix 76 coater hub fitted 👍
Honesty is the best policy.good job .👌

I need to fix one the battery turns everything on. But when the accelerator is pushed it doesn't do anything
It could be a number of things. You need to push on the accelerator pedal and see what the lights do. The blinking lights help diagnose the issue. Based on the number of blinks and the duration of the blinks aswell as the color of the blink will help. If it doesn't do anything at all then you probably need a new pedal. You can call Powerwheels and see if there is a service center near you. If they are good they will offer a free diagnosis like we do. Goodluck.👍
A few squirts of some WD40 would have helped cleaning up around the welds
Thank you, learning the maintence on ebikes is make or break for me. I'm eyeing the lectric bikes for picing and size. I appreciate videos like this alot!🙏❤️
Thank you.👍
Good job guys
Thank you.👍
I wish this covered more troubleshooting of the typical issues people have like the purple flashing lights. Many say its a sensor in the seat (which these dont have) and its sometimes looks wires on the circuit board, bad motors, etc... but theres almost ZERO troubleshooting help from Mattel or anywhere else on resolving these without replacing random parts or doing guesswork. I just picked up a used one for my daughter yesterday, assembled it all back up and converted it to a Ryobi 18v battery. It worked great (spliced at the battery connector with a 30A inline fuse and power switch) and it powers up just fine. But only goes GREEN for a few seconds, then instantly goes purple flashing. Even if i jack it up and run the motors, with or without a kid in it, as soon as its GREEN right away from switching it OFF then ON again, it goes right back to purple flashing leds. Im going to go over the board and connectors again, but it seems this is actually a huge issue with these FRC29 model Barbie Dream Campers.
I hate to tell you but the computer is made to flash purple if it senses an overvolt aswell.
I'm sorry. Next time I get another Barbie camper I will try to cover more.👍
I have that bike I’ve had it my hole life and would like to find someone that wants it. Anyone or any ideas
I'm always looking for a new project. It just depends on how much you want it for.
Thanks for the video. Had nothing but problems with my Talon since the day I bought it new. Very unimpressed with it.
The Giant Talon is an excellent bike. I don't sell them but I do work on them. I have had tons of experience with them and the only issues I have seen is when the bike is not assembled properly. I wish you Goodluck. If you keep having problems take it to a good trusted bike shop. Most bike shops are good it's to bad that a few shops give others a bad reputation.👍
This bike looks amazing. I regret not getting this over my GT Pro series 29”. I’ve ridden Yamahas forever so those graphics really hit home, and the fact that it’s not a flashy bike and has old school vibes is nice. Fit/s&m is literally around the corner from our business, wish I went over there, had no idea they made big bikes
It's OK to have two bikes...😉
U messed my rim up nice rim I thought I was taking it off so I can use it mf now I got 2 rims that needs freewheels
I'm sorry your rim is messed up. Everything I showed is straight forward and does not damage anything except the freewheel. Freewheels are not expensive and its a perfect opportunity to put a better one on that uses a tool. This video was to show you how to be able to remove a bad non removable freewheel. It is very difficult to put a freewheel back together but if your putting a new one on it doesn't matter. You are welcome to come by if possible and I would be happy to help. I have used this method a hundred times over the years and it has worked every single time. I wish you Goodluck and I'm serious about helping out if I can.👍
Damn i miss my trickstar
I've been trying to find one for years.
Sydney Trains DC traction motor field coil bolts - 160 - 180 newton metres like my S set Goninan 3009 avatar .
Kin - Lin bottom bracket ? Giant should use a proper Shimano one or Neco / Sunrace , at least .
It was a Shimano. It's the second time I've seen one like this.
Some Giant company owned stores have had high staff turnover in Australia . Anyone has thoughts on this issue ?
When bike shops get big or is owned by a big company it normally does have a high turnover rate. Working at bike shops are supposed to be fun. When they get big it becomes stressful.
I have been converting JIS setups to Hollowtech outboard ones wherever possible .

Nice video, but my right hand brake is still mushy? I must be doing something wrong.
You may still have air in your brake. Try bleeding it again but make sure your turning the bike and handlebars different angles to try to work any air pockets out. Goodluck.👍
A question My RAD bike appears code 21 but goes back and forth.
From my experience it's caused by inconsistent powerflow from the battery requiring parts. The connection between the battery and the controller is not good enough. The other thing that can cause the code 21 is really steep hills. Take it to your nearest service center it should be easy to repair. Goodluck 👍
Well in the manual they do say to never increase “top of the crown” to “top of upper tube” measurement beyond 157.20 mm. It was the first thing I measure when installing mine.
That may be true but when you install as many forks over the years as I have you tend to stop referring to the owners manual for normal things like steer tube lengths because they always had more then enough for most bikes. I didn't expect a drastic change like that. In old pictures you can see the stanchions sticking out above the crown, a ton of headset spacers or the fork is so far out because the always gave you more than enough to work with. It was the first time installing a new fork to an old bike.

What is the point of this? Backwards bike from hell.
Just because.👍
@@alloutbikes I have a 124 year old Columbia "Courting Tandem" that I can ride solo from the rear seat. That's a weird "just because" thing that can actually work once you've run over all the kids' toys and scraped your neighbor's new truck starting off out of your driveway...
Thar sounds like something I would do right after saying (Hay yall watch this)! But... That's just me.🤪
2:22 OMG so tender and milky
Great video. Just found a red one . So awesome
Looking for a knock around bike. I an considering one of these. How tall are you? I am 6'4" and concerned they may be to small.
I am 6'1". It should fit you fairly well.
Excellent video! I want to add 2 different sprockets to a flip flop freewheel. What do I need to do this ?
It depends on your flip flop hub. Some hubs handle different sized freewheels with no problem. It depends on what size freewheel you want. I don't know the hub you have so I will try to make it easy. If you have the bmx style flip flop with a lager diameter thead on one side that accepts 15t(AC freewheel only) 16t-22 tooth is the most common. You have a smaller diameter side that works with 13t-15 tooth freewheels. There are some Chinese freewheels that are 13 tooth and 14 tooth that will work with the larger thead but are a poor quality and don't last long. There are the step down thread hubs that are used for fixed gear as well. Where the smaller thead is reversed to accommodate a lockring to keep the gear from coming off. Some people use a freewheel on this at the risk of the theads stripping due to less material. There is also the different threads themselves. You have English thead(1.29x24) or Italian thead(1.32x24) or old French (33x1mm). If your not sure you can take it to your local bike shop. Any seasoned technician will know how to help you. Goodluck.👍
This brings back so many memories! I had a Hutch Pro Racer too! Although I had Araya 7X rims with bullseye hubs. KKT lightning pedals, CW bars, Tuf neck, GT laid back seat post and mushroom grips. I went with a blue, white, and chrome theme. Unfortunately, just like my Diamondback and my Redline, it was stolen. You got a great bike! I love that it still has the Hutch seat post clamp! I had the same one.
Thanks for sharing. I'm sorry your bikes got stolen. Maybe you could build another bike from your youth.👍
Im in your algorithm 😂 good shiznit. Ride on.
Thank you.👍
That was an absolutely amazing build of an old classic. If you don't mind, would you please provide the name of the "tar" that you used to squirt inside the frame to prevent it from rusting? Thanks for these videos. They are great!
Thank you very much. It's called steel frame protector from ProGold.👍
@@alloutbikes thanks!
Jason is the frame Similar to a schwinn varsity frame
Hey Ray. Yes, it is virtually identical to the Varsity but is made to accommodate 26" wheels.
Hello Jason, I have a schwinn varsity, and a An aluminum side Winder. I was wondering if that handle bars. And gooseneck would fit from the Sidewinder. Onto the varsity, it looks like it's an old varsity. Frame on the video you're showing. Will it work Hey, thanks for the videos. They're great
All that labors would cost $100 at a repair shop. Better to buy a new bike.
We are a repair shop. We charged $20.
Helpful and well done. Sometimes they just pug them on backwards too. I got one off and the back side had the tool interface, but mostly its exactly like you show. Great job.
So i am hear watching this trying to figure out why this guy looks so familiar, then it hits me he sounds and looks like Issac from carsandcameras. You have to be related or this is a really good case of a doppelganger.
Ike is my brother.👍
The Pro - Flex 853 had a similar rear suspension behaviour but not quite as bad . Some early Mongoose NX models did too .
Where can I find parts? I have an 83 predator frame and forks. I’m wanting to build.
Your not going to like what I'm going to say........... Ebay. Ebay is probably the best place to look. It's also the most expensive. You can look on BMXmuseum but it's harder to navigate. Goodluck 👍
