Huge apologies for the delay with the latest video. Family has needed my attention. I'm looking forward to getting back into making more videos. Thanks for everyone's patience and coming back to the channel after a long wait!
Turnah, no worries. Faith and family first. All other things follow. Hope all is well and it wasnt anything too hectic. Great to see you back! A great surprise to see the notification of a new vid!
When you drop a new video every few years it's like seeing an old friend again. Thank you for putting the time in and sharing this experience with the world.
I love how honest you are about the setbacks and random intrusive thoughts during a build. Most people on youtube breeze past this stuff like nothing went wrong and it's really discouraging, you know? But you? You remind the rest of us that yeah, making stuff isn't a straight line from points A to B. Thank you for your candor and humor.
As a compressed gas rapidly decompresses, the temperature drops substantially. The vapour puffs you're seeing is the moisture in the air briefly condensing due to the rapid cooling. That's an oversimplification, but it should get the idea across. Also, it's great to see another video from you! Hope to see more soon. :)
Came here to say this. When you compress a gas it heats up as you push the molecules closer together. The temperature then normalises to ambient temp while it sits in the tank. It follows then, that the temperature will decrease when the pressure is released and this results in cooling. Colder air can not carry as much humidity, so it condenses out as a mist. Why two puffs? I think the high pressure air initially gives a more rapid drop in pressure so we see vapour in the exhausted gas. The rest of the water condenses in the manifold but is blown out a fraction of a second later by the lower pressure exhausting out of the reservoir at a slower rate.
I believe it was from Robbie Coltrane that I learned the term "adiabatic expansion." Is that what is occurring here (asks the decidedly non-physicist)?
Lets just call them birds... or animals.. im sure if this fella was in scotland, hed be doing the same thing.. Also, im positive if he lived in a land that wasnt waterlocked, he'd help all animals.. lol
Nice build, Turnah. Too bad about Aaron, but I'm sure you'll get some use out of it yet, to rescue some other birds. Looking forward to the videos. Rest in peace, Mr. Aaron McShiskebab von Binchicken. You will be missed.
Thank you for helping restore my faith in humanity I cannot understand why anybody would do something to a beautiful bird like that or any other animal for 😢 thank you for trying to be one of the people that actually is helping there needs to be more people in the world that care like you
Same here. Idk why anyone would be so cruel. I'm convinced some people have devolved into something I don't want to share the planet with. 😔 Kudos Turnah for wanting to help our wild friends. I'm a bird nerd for sure and love feeding my bird friends. My bird bath is like the community pool this summer with many using it as a great place to hang out and get a cold drink from. Now I just need a self cleaning bird bath. 😂 You could make a fortune @Turnah81 if you invented one but I want first dibs and small royalties for the idea 😅
Not sure what is worse, calling a bin chicken an ibis, the application of teflon tape in the wrong direction at 4:07 or the end result of the build. Good to see you back Craig and props to you and the family for doing your bit for wildlife rescue.
Happy to see you again. I'm sure this will prove to be very useful in other situations in the future. Love your humor. Thank you for sharing all of this with us. Take good care!
Back in our days volunteering with Pelican and Seabird Rescue (PaSR) over here in Brisbane, we were taught how to use a D-net to catch birds. It was basically a D shaped frame made from conduit a prop and a bit of string to make it fall down. Your design would be a godsend for them.
People like you are Gold! Thank you for helping injured wildlife, all animals need to be treated with respect. Sad about that poor Ibis dragging around that arrow, if it had been pulled out early I am sure that bird would have most certainly recovered.
It's a shame Aaron passed before he could be helped, but I'm sure your efforts engineering your remote net-casting contraption won't be wasted. Good on you for caring about the birds.
Thank you for doing that. Its sad the Bird died, but you did good bro. To the person who shot the bird AND didnt follow up to kill it ~ theres a special HELL waiting for you
I can say with confidence that you are a legend! I'm not Australian, but I've done some research and I am confident this is the proper use of the term!
Isn't this the guy who made the hilarious videos about cats urinating on his cars? He was the funniest person on all of UA-cam, bar none. Why isn't he a multimillionaire by now? Plenty of other far less talented UA-camrs have gotten rich.
First time I visited AU I was surprised by all the ibis. Most birds I associated with au from media & other sources were cockatiels, lorikeets, kookaburra, parrots, & the other culprits. Ibis I def associated with places like Egypt. Definitely got the side eye from local picnickers for feeding them, but I was impressed by their seeming intelligence & agility.
Looking forward to the next video, I’ve marked it on my calendar as sometime around here, maybe? Who knows, it’ll be worth the wait. Hope you get to save something soon with this, and hope it’s not in as much distress
I bet those birds are stoked to get rescued. nice invention. They tried it her in Texas with deer and a huge net and it was an absolute heartbreaking disaster. Hope this goes better
Yeah sadly deer and other ungulates cannot be safely netted due to the risk of leg breaking and thrashing and tangle mechanics, it's just unsafe for em, I'm surprised to have heard they are still trying nets for ungulate rescue
It seems most are actually being net trapped for human consumption which is sad, if you're going to eat a deer you go out and hunt it ethically don't use tricks or traps, not to mention the net prolonged the suffering of many many many deer, that's jut disturbing
@xxhoneystarzxx4950 this deer net was employed to get deer out of a millionaire golf course neighborhood. I was just working in the neighborhood and heard all the sad stories from a Lt. Colonel client of mine. The project was shut down within 2 weeks. Everything about it was wrong. Shame on that company and HOA that approved it.
11:29 The cause for those vapour puffs are the changes in pressure causing the air to cool down rapidly, similar to when CO2 is released from a CO2 canister it gets super cold.
This is literally the only time outside of a single episode of Stargate I've heard the term "anulus." I always assumed it was an alien word they made up for that race to call the Stargate.
Literally can't express happiness seeing you back! And now that you are, please stay! :) The transition of you into becoming a saviour of wildlife simply connects you who you have always been. I kind of remembered a video of Remi Gaillard while watching this. Thank you so much for donning this new cape! #Respect
Could not resist watching the moment I noticed it. Worth every minute and thank you for using your skills thusly. A short film with educational (STEM), volunteering, film and editing content, plus a great dose of humour; Oscar material for sure.
Say if you partially fill your bathtub, your duck won’t be so angry. Love your channel! I got such a hysterical laughing fit watching your recent rocket launcher video.
what a wild invention. never in a hundred years would I have though tto use a net to catch the bird. it makes sense, but its so cool you actually created the machine. awesome work
Thank you for teaching me how to catch wild air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, videos like this from you are just as good as the comedy ones. We just like you and your sense of humor! More Videos man!!! RIP Aaron.
Hey mate, I'm an engineer from Brisbane and have fallen into the same role of fixing net guns for the RSPCA here. I've reverse engineered the net 8-weight gun they use here (which has been discontinued) and would be happy to share the design files and/or buy extra on the next order if you guys need some.
The “Smoke” that occurs when firing is condensed water vapor as the compressed air expands it cools causing the water vapor in the air to briefly condense….as it warms back to ambient temperature it disappears… cool gadgets
I'm surprised no one bothered to ring the CSIRO. They've had three-barrelled net guns since the early 1980s. Usually used for deer and roos, they can be easily loaded for bird capture by varying the powder load in the cartridges.
I don’t know if any one else has already mentioned it. The Australian crow/raven can also safely eat cane toads. It does it by turning the cane toad up side down and eating its guts out.
You are SO funny, and clever with the storyline. Great to hear an Aussie accent on you-tube for this sort of thing (engineering, experimentation sort of thing). Maybe the vapour puffs after the wadding exited the tubes are from adiabatic cooling of the compressed air as it escapes and expands rapidly, causing water vapour in the air to condense in micro droplets in the cold gas? (Water vapour creating short-lived, mini clouds).
Huge apologies for the delay with the latest video.
Family has needed my attention. I'm looking forward to getting back into making more videos. Thanks for everyone's patience and coming back to the channel after a long wait!
Well, you know what The Fast and the Furious has to say about family.
Wow. I thought you were going to apologise for misleading me
;D
Family comes first dude
Turnah, no worries. Faith and family first. All other things follow. Hope all is well and it wasnt anything too hectic. Great to see you back! A great surprise to see the notification of a new vid!

It's sad that you didn't catch Aaron the Ibis, but your new net cannon could very well help save many more lives. All inspired by Aaron~
Maybe call it the Aaron cannon in his honour.
That duck's glare when she told him to get down, amazing.
