    I stayed at LaCala & I left with mixed feelings & an empty stomach. There was a concert in Oia, the albergue kitchen was empty & all the restaurants full. I went to bed tired with the festival music 🎶 pounding. The first coffee stop the following morning I ate a lot! The albergue was lovely & clean but I felt forgotten. Baiona was better.

      Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! I've only stayed there once so it's hard to say whether my experience is the norm or not (a kitchen overflowing with food, the host cooking a big evening meal for the pilgrims, etc) But certainly this wasn't your experience, so maybe what I experienced shouldn't be the expectation. Or, maybe you hit it at an off time, with the festival, etc.

      Thank you for this comment; sometimes I slip into thinking that I need to keep my videos/thoughts positive and light, but I know that I get so much more out of the well-rounded (good AND bad) experiences of others'. It's helpful for me to remember that and know that others might find it helpful to hear about what my own challenges are!

    Nadine, you are too cool, really appreciate your footage, your thoughts, meals, wet room facilities and personal experiences. I will be walking The Camimo Portuguese the last week of September 2022. Boom caminho.

    Hi, Nadine! Nice video! So beautiful beach landscapes. The uphills are good because after them comes (often) downhills 🙂

      That's what I always tell myself! And sometimes it's nice to use my walking muscles in a slightly different way... plus, sometimes, there are beautiful views at the top!

    Hi Nadine, thanks for the landscape footage inclusive path. Many vlogers forget to shot what is important to many viewers, I.e. what we can expect along the Camino. Cannot wait for my late Sept arrival in Porto.

      I bet September will be a beautiful time to walk! I'm not always so good at remember to film when I walk (and I'm making a mental note to film even MORE of the path/terrain for future videos!)

      @@NadineWalks I will also walk that Variant to Nigran. It's not even mentioned in the Buen Camino app. Shame that. Appreciate the foresight.

    Hi Nadine, been following your camino and found it really useful. I'm looking at going from Porto to Vigo in August (would never or thought of this if it was not for your vids) as my mate only has 7 days leave. All the best Darron UK

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much Darron, I'm so happy that these videos helped you to figure out a possibility for your own Camino! I think that having about a week to walk is perfect for Porto to Vigo, and both cities have really good transport options so it shouldn't be too difficult to organize. Let me know if you end up walking this route in August! I'd love to hear how it goes.

    Great vid as usual. Presumably you are planning to pick up this Camino again from Vigo & continue to SdeC at a future date ... I'm planning on the Variante Spirituale, with the boat trip to Padron, when I hopefully walk this Camino in the autumn.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, that's the idea! Well, the original idea was to make it to Redondela (which is 16km after Vigo, and where the coastal and central routes merge). I was just short of that. When I go back, I'd really like to either restart at Porto- or even Lisbon!- and walk the central route all the way to Santiago (and also take the Variante Spirituale). I hope you'll be able to walk this autumn as well!

    hello! great videos! Im wondering how do you dry your hair after washing it, when there is no hair dryer? I want to do the camino and this is one of my concerns hahah

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Рік тому +1

      There are typically no hair dryers, and everyone just lets their hair air dry! I’m lucky (well, in this particular instance); my hair is fine and dries quickly. But unless you’re walking in the winter, I don’t think it will be an issue! You’ll shower after the walking day is done, so you wouldn’t have to walk with wet hair first thing in the morning.

    Nadine-
    Do most people do the coastal route on the Portugues? I know that there is a main inland route up to Santiago. I also see on some maps (but not all) a cross path that connects the coastal route and the inland route maybe a couple segments into the coastal route (so you could do a short section of the coastal for a taste of the sea and then get back on the inland route). I haven't seen many videos of people doing the inland route, so was wondering if most just do the coastal. Do you have an idea of what the main route is like?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Peter, you know, I actually think the interior route is more popular than the coastal! From what I've read, there are higher numbers walking that main inland route, though the coastal seems to be growing in popularity. It also seems that a lot of pilgrims do just what you suggested- walk a day or two along the coast from Porto, and then cross over to join the interior. It's kind of neat that there are so many options for walking in Portugal! I haven't walked any of the interior route yet, but I've heard great things and it's definitely on my list.

    • @neverlostpilgrim2817
      @neverlostpilgrim2817 2 роки тому

      Peter, we did the first couple days on the coast and went inland the rest of the way. I believe it’s a more popular route as well. Next I’ll do the coastal as much as possible. It’s a new experience each time regardless.

    Amazing views! I'm guessing you've walked the central route as well.. which route is your favorite??

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't walked the central route yet! I picked the coastal because I knew I didn't have enough time to get to Santiago, and I want to go back to Portugal to walk more (so that's when I'll do the central... I'm very curious how they compare!)

  • @carolp1912

    that was a really pretty section of the way. Were you the only pilgrim in the albergue or did someone else arrive. They should all supply soap and hairdryers I think.....

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому

      I know, if only all the albergues could have soap and hairdryers! And yes, I ended up being the only one staying there... it was kind of like having a private room!

    Are blankets still available at the albergues?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому

      I think it depends on the albergue- the one from this video did have blankets but there was a fee to use one. The other places I stayed in all had blankets (but I wouldn't count on getting a blanket in every albergue).

    I know I said this earlier in the series, but still convinced this is my next camino. An American friend posed the theory that every albergue has either a Welcome Hill on the way into the village or town, or an FU hill on the way out. This climb was the former (hopefully!)

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  2 роки тому

      A "Welcome Hill" or an "FU Hill"... ha!! I think your friend is onto something with this theory... in my case, that was definitely a 'welcome hill' :)

    When you send a WhatsApp message to the alburgues do send it in English or Portuguese?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  Рік тому +2

      I send it in Portuguese (or Spanish, if I'm in Spain)... I just translate it from English and I'm sure there are mistakes but I like the make the effort!
