Arriraw is 2560x1620. You can record it with an OB-1 or Codex. The workflow isn't that difficult, especially with the Virtfual File System that Codex uses. You hook up the external recorder via Dual HD-SDI (from both REC OUT's). This gives you the highest/raster quality signal.
@erakon1 You can record Arriraw to a certified 3rd party recorder. From the FAQ: "ARRIRAW is the highest quality recording format when shooting with ALEXA, storing the full 2880 x 1620 pixels of raw, unprocessed 12 bit log Bayer data delivered by the sensor."
Hi there, Can you tell me what happens if I record in 16:9 and final out in 2.4:1, will i loose some photosites or it will just down sampled from 2880*1620, or it will use less photosites ?
+Rammohan Pateriya If you record in 16:9 and then do a final out in 2.4:1, you will use less of the output pixels because when you crop the top and bottom of the image, you are excluding pixels that were already recorded. On the sensor, if cropping for 2.4:1, then you will be utilizing 2880 x 1206 photosites. But keep in mind you will actually record 2880 x 1620 and then cutting the top and bottom in post.

@taybo20, Dude send me a link from the Arri site that says that the Alexa gives you a 3.5 k file. Look I am not a "K" geek. Pixels don't matter that much too me, but the Alexa does not deliver a 3.5k file. It has a 3.5k sensor that down samples to 2k, aka 1080p. There are benefits to this, but it does not deliver a 3.5k file. You ever shoot with one? And by the way the Red MX shoots at 5k. Not that pixels matter all that much, just sayin.

@taybo20 , its actually a 1080p camera. The sensor is nice, but you can't get a 3.5k file out of the camera. Impossible.
