    35 GM.. my favorite lens for walkabout in the city like this.. I will always have a 85 or 70-200 in the bag too in case I need that extra reach. But sometimes I just end up using the 35 only.

      If you ever have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it! Prague is so beautiful. And yeah I used to send my film to a local lab, but I love the editing process of photography so I decided to give scanning a go first, then eventually decided to just develop it myself too haha. I really enjoy the process!

    I actually went to Europe this summer. I went to Switzerland, Italy and France for about 45 days. My favorite photogenic city was Venice. I loved it a lot more than I expected too. It was just spectacularly photogenic.
    I was struggling with what camera equipment to carry especially since I was traveling within Europe by train and wanted to be as light as possible. I landed up taking an A7R III with a 35mm 1.4 GM and Sigma 85 mm 1.4. In addition I took an A7R IV with a 12-24 2.8 GM on it for landscape.
    I actually landed up using my A7R III with the 35mm 1.4 GM for 95% of my photography. This combination worked really well, even in low light on the streets of Europe or canals of Venice.
    If I had to do it again, I would carry only the A7R III (or a Sony A1) with a 35mm 1.4 GM and the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8 for moments when I need additional reach.
    What did you carry and how did it work for you?

    • @DDHDTV
      @DDHDTV Рік тому

      i traveled many cities with my Sigma 30 1.4 (APSC) so 45mm. I shot like 98% with it. but I often found myself it being just a bit too tight. so 35 or 40 (FF equivalent) would have been great. the rest I tiim with the 18-105 F4 at the tele end.
      looking what I can replace that long end with. 700-200 is too heavy. thinking Sigma 90 2.8 maybe, but would want a bit more reach.
      so maybe 35 + 70-200 would be a great combi for me. mayve throw in a cheap and light 24 like a Samyang 24 1.8

    Prague still remains Architecture is a safe bet. Of course this city is a space of creation. If in addition there is light, we can only create emotion. Congratulations for this atmosphere.

    Great job Julia thanks for sharing .. for me If there one lens i can have while traveling it’s definitely the 24-70mm range .. I used the 24-70mm GM II and it did the job for portraits streets landscapes,and it’s incredibly sharp! unless you need fast aperture and don’t mind taking 2 primes .. it’s the jack of all trades!

    Great adventure - good balance of candid and casual images. I’ve had similar success with the 85 focal length in the city for urban landscapes. Decided to go with a 135mm and 50mm to get more separation and add in either the standard lens at 28, or ultra-wide at 14 to capture the space. Really enjoyed this, looking forward to more.

      It's a lot quicker, easier and more affordable to just hire a car out there to live in and to get you about in rather than use a hotel, hostel or Air BnB etc...That way you have the means to get around and explore the whole of the Czech Republic in one holiday, and not just Prague. I once hired a car in Zagreb, Croatia and in one 2 week holiday I visited seven countries in all, most of which I had never been to before...They were: Zagreb (Croatia), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Triest (Italy), Vienna (Austria), Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest (Hungary), Belgrade (Serbia) and then back to Zagreb. If I had had one more week I could have visited every single East European country in my hire car...You just can't do that when your tied to fixed point like a hotel.

      I feel like I need to make a video about this to really dive into the topic.. but yeah I do shoot most of my landscapes and cityscapes wide open. I love the way light looks wide open in a photo and I like that not everything is in focus. That's why I shoot that way. There are times doing landscape photography I do step down because I want more of the scene to be in focus. But the majority of the time I don't want that. Also I do have prints hanging on my walls right now of photos I've taken at f1.4 and they look great lol

    • @benadrylpumpkinpatch
      @benadrylpumpkinpatch 2 роки тому +1

      I hate to be critical because I generally think it's good to think for oneself and go against the grain, and of course much of art is subjective, but I also feel that the rule of stopping down for landscape photos exists for a good reason, and many of your cityscapes would be improved by using a smaller aperture. Just an opinion of some random commenter on the internet! Otherwise thoroughly enjoy your videos!

    F2.8 or even f4 is better for vlogging. Bokeh addiction is real and if you are shooting wider than 2.8 your basically on the hard stuff without knowing it. Don’t even consider going to 1.4 or 1.2. Most photographers never recover from trying that aperture even though they just started out experimenting.

    You would have been better off with the Samyang AF 24mm f1.8 FE rather than the Sony 24mm f1.4 GM as they have identical sharpness across the frame, but the Samyang has better flare resistance, less CA at the edges of frame, it's almost half the weight (so much better as a travel lens) and it's three times cheaper!
    Also if you had used the Samyang AF 18mm f2.8 FE rather than the Sony 20mm f1.8 it would have been far easier to carry for long periods as you wouldn't need to extend your arm as much to get the same framing, and the Samyang is 2.5x lighter! Which again, makes it more suitable as a travel vlogging lens than the Sony.

      @@juliatrotti Not the old 24mm f1.4 MF, the newer AF 24mm f1.8 FE...It's just as sharp as the Sony 24mm f1.4 GM, right across the frame, has the same high contrast, but it has less CA at the edges of frame than the GM, better flare resistance, it's almost half the weight (230g). It also has really fast and silent AF, very little focus breathing, it's fully weather sealed and it's designed for Astro so its great for low light shots too plus it's only 1/3rd the price the price of the GM! It's a no brainer for a travel vlogging lens.

    Too open the aperture for video. F/4.0 work better at day time.

    I like your fun personality but the only thing in focus is your face. We can't see the beautiful city you're traveling in.
