Methadone has changed my life around! In the best way possible. It's not impossible to get off of it, if you set up a solid detox program with your counselor and doctor you don't have much to worry about. I got down to around 10mg from 120mg with MINIMAL discomfort. You just have to do it the RIGHT way! Stay away from energy drinks as well, they tear up your stomach and make your body metabolize your medication quicker.
D. Edwards. Your giving this advise when you’ve never stopped taking it yet? Congrats on weening down but the real issues come when you’ve had enough and decide to stop completely, even if your dose is that low. Takes months to get better and some say they never do. I’m on day 42 or 43 w/o and miserable... Although I was on methadone long term-17years (prescribed for pain). Just hate to see more people (blindly) wind up in even a worst situation. That’s all.
@@dustwilson4649 I agree with you completely. I was on methadone from 2001-2009 switched to Suboxone in 2009 -currently. I am in the research phase to detox with ibogaine. I hope it shows promise for long term opioid dependence.
I have been on methadone for 20+ years. Before I started taking methadone I was hopelessly addicted to using opioids I had used opioids for over 15 years and tried to quit so many times I can’t remember them all. I always ended up relapsing and feeling guilty because I was so weak that I let a drug control me. When I finally decided to try methadone I found out that there was a waiting list of at least six months. I was struggling with my health and was using large amounts of morphine daily 300+mg. About two months into being on the waiting list I ended up with a very bad infection in my left arm from a missed injection. I was given antibiotics for several days but they didn’t help (I should mention that while I was in the grip of my addiction I was always able to keep working and supporting myself and a wife and daughter). I had been working for a company that paid very well and had all the benefits I wanted ( union job with pension plan, drug, dental etc ) When I first noticed my infection I went and got antibiotics from a walk-in clinic. Several days later I was in far worse shape with a arm that looked twice as large as the other. I went to emergency and was immediately admitted to the hospital. After several days of IV antibiotics they decided to drain my arm and they had to put me under to do it. They told me that I would be back in my room and awake by 5pm and I would probably be able to go the next day. THEY LIED!!!!! I woke up in ICU and it was after midnight and my left arm hurt so bad I was almost crying. I looked at my arm and there was a huge bandage on it. I asked the nurse what happened and she informed me that when they open up the infected area of my arm they found out all the muscle had been eaten away by a flesh eating virus and the reason I was in so much pain was all they would give me for pain was 4mg of morphine (I was used to injecting 100mg at a time so 4mg did zero for pain). I spent the next week in total agony and was quarantined in a tiny room with no visitors (my family were mad at me for relapsing again and wasn’t talking to me). I phoned the methadone clinic (which happened to be located in the hospital I was in) every day (sometimes multiple times a day) trying to get them to make an exception and let me jump to the front of the waiting list cause I was in so much pain. After over a week the head of the clinic agreed to come see me that evening. As I was waiting for him I noticed that the top of my forearm looked a little puffy (there was a fist sized hole on the underside of my forearm were the virus was still active and I had to get it checked and cleaned twice a day) about a half hour later I could tell that my forearm was definitely swollen I buzzed for a nurse and unfortunately the virus had jumped to a new location on my arm. I wasn’t able to have surgery to remove the skin and drain and clean the area until the next day. Luckily I was still able to see the methadone doctor (he was actually in charge of the department) once he saw my arm (he removed the single piece of bandage covering the infected area and asked if he could take a picture or two for his files. I agreed). After talking for about ten minutes he asked me if I wanted him to become my pain management doctor and he could start me on both methadone and a proper amount of pain medication (morphine). He called the doctor who was looking after me and he was more than happy to not be responsible for giving me (an addict) morphine. Later that evening my IV pole was equipped with a morphine pump and I was automatically given a set amount and I was able to give myself a extra dose if I needed every so often. I actually got to sleep that night even though I was worried about my surgery tomorrow. In total I spent over a month in quarantine at the hospital then had to spend two months at home having a nurse come see me daily. I had skin grafts from my legs to cover the damaged areas on my arm. I lived about twenty miles out of town in a small town and I had to get driven in every day to get my methadone but it was worth it. Ever since then I’ve been able to stay clean except for the methadone and I don’t consider that using. I managed to keep my job and they have no idea I was on methadone the last twenty plus years I have worked there. I am still married and I have a 25 year old daughter who I am very close to. Without being put on methadone I highly doubt I would be alive today.
Thats one hell of a story and I'm so glad that youre okay and your relationships are intact. Congratulations and salute to you for getting and staying off the junk. Are there any particular downsides to the methadone? Ive heard different things. Is it that hard on teeth? Im glad you didnt lose the arm. It sounds like you cane close. Stay well, friend. ❤
Yes one hell of a story because most I know have no one or have passed all my friends are dead from heroin I'm glad I'm on only Suboxone now and it's saved my life at a young age of 35. Your a rare one to go through that and come out and still have a life not many do. Drugs destroy everything if not managed........
Also to dead again yes it roots your teeth like sugar does but tenfold Ive had all mine go at a young age and have all new ones now. Good luck to all battling drug addiction it's no joke
Waw what a story. I suppose you could be happy in some way that you were able to keep your arm at least, but in those circumstances.. It's so wrong that doctors gave you so little painkillers cuz opioid tolerance is so well documented they knew that 4mg would do nothing for someone who used that same drug in shots of 100mg.. Unfortunately i had similar expierence, finally my dr. decided to give me suboxon, but didn't wanna give more than 2mg tab daily that it couldn't rly help (I'm taking quite a lot of kratom). And then u were having the same drug as you used to have, there is still cross-tolerance too for opioids, especially if you'd have used heroin which is more potent than morphine in every way. I recently was able to buy some cheap tho official pharma grade opioid pills, similar to Oxy, so I was excited. But to my surprise I barely felt it at all, only slight comfort. I'd have to abuse it already, like take 300mg or more, which is almost like 100mg of Oxy normally so I didn't do that & kratom is still my drug of choice. But I'm using too much of it & fear a bit for my health. I don't have much side effects but still i take big doses 2-3x daily, with some catalysts like fats. I'm so tired of not being helped by doctors that i wanna use heroin temporary, not injecting tho, just to get a real dose of buprenorfin, since i know that's the substitute i need. It's hard to find a doctor already to prescribe u an opioid anyway let alone a relative big dose. But if you consider tolerance & opiate use buprenorfin/suboxon isn't even so strong. I find it better than methadone cuz it's not fully synthetic for 1 and 2 it's easier to come off from as I heard Methadon is hell to come off from, taking months to maybe years. But they if it helps ppl rly & is effective, why not. I enjoy the relaxing, euphoric feeling of opiates even tho I mainly take them just to take care of my pain. It's sad doctors don't take this serious.. If it weren't for kratom i think i really couldn't/wouldn't wanna live with this pain really. Somehow they're so dumb thinking opioids are only for ppl dying or cancer or like acute pain. But in that case many more ppl would be suffering or die, like all those that r helped with methadon for example. 1 more thing, you really didn't deserve it that your parents didn't even come see you in hospital or even ICU, it says more about them. Don't feel any guilt, and you've perfectly healed!
I’m so proud of you for staying true and getting through these obstacles in your life. Your story has some seriously terrifying parallels to my own life and with severe arm infections twice, I didn’t have a good doctor I don’t know if they were prejudice against gays or just didn’t care about the pain I was in, I ended up having to have my dealer bring me stuff so I could just make it through the day, was in the hospital for two weeks and I have never been so ashamed of myself in my entire life, the entire group at that hospital made me feel like a complete monster, I wouldn’t go through that part of my life again for a million dollars. Today I’m sober and have been for a while and I’m stabilized and have been on the methadone clinic where luckily I don’t have to go in but twice a month so I’ve come a long way. Take care of yourself !
If every single rehab and detox hadn’t told me how “terrible” methadone was, I would’ve had years of sobriety. However I stand on my own two feet today as a man that’s been sober for almost 90 days after a lifelong dependence on prescription pain medication and later on drugs off of the street as many folks know, this is the funneling of addicts who go from legitimate doctors to pain management and get cut off like I did because of my insurance and end up living like a junkie. I thank God every day of my life that he showed me the way and that I finally ended up at a methadone clinic that saved my life when nothing else ever worked in almost two decades of my addiction. We need to end the stigma surrounding methadone because more and more people die every single day. I can’t even count how many friends I’ve lost to opioids.
As a recovered junkie thats worked with hundreds of other addicts over the yrs the only benefit I’ve experienced and seen with this MATS is for withdrawal
As someone who has had the Naltrexone implant and currently has one I don’t understand why it is not pushed more. I don’t believe in methadone myself. When I would go prison I would refuse any help and ride it out. My ego wouldn’t allow me to be seen like that. Prison was always a rehab. Cluck it out for couple weeks. No sleep. Use some spice to help keep me comatose. Few weeks later gym and food and I’m a new person. Sadly I’ve done this pattern for a long time. Not anymore as my Naltrexone implant leaves me without the choice of using even if I wanted to. Not a cure but it is if you always have one.
Been on suboxone five years and went from four 8mg/2mg film a day to half of one 8mg/2mg film a day and I’ve just learned to live with the fact that I’ll be on it the rest of my life probably. I wasn’t educated on it enough going into it all I know is I was taking 20-30 oxys, Percs, etc and was desperate and 3 years into the program I started hearing from people that I’d been on them too long and that my dr was probably a quack and heard from people who took them say the withdrawals were worse than pills when coming off them so where I’m at with my job and insurance I’m fine to just stay on them as long as I can and I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it
In was in the clinic and one day this guy in knew who had been in there clinic for years was informed because b of his heart n they would have to stop his treatment basically immediately. That scared me to death.
Do you not pay attention? Methadone is a schedule II. Incredibly serious charges if caught without a script. Methadone has been around for a long time and tested in a way that it can save lives.
Kratom is absolutely not design as a opiate substitute. Its too weak for real addict and ruin you liver. It's an light opiate for those who want to experiment without taking too much risk
I hate the term Narcotic, because it's so loose and imprecise, Opioid is much better. I'm on Buprenorphine (without Naloxone) and it's worked wonders for me, in that I haven't used or even considered using in almost 20 years. I intend to remain on it indefinitely cos if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
I've been on Buprenorphine as well for 13yrs currently on 14mg but since last year the euphoric buzz effect has gone completely do you get a buzz off it or are you just like me it just stops the withdrawals.
@@Aroncotsi hello, so in the last 12 years youve been able to get somewhat euphoric? i mean not to the degree of oxycodone or similar but to just feel well and happy? i have trd, gad, maybe rls and probably oud at this point. Oxycodone is the only thing that helps me, makes me somewhat happy, confident, motivated, gets rid of my anxiety and im able to relax my legs. No other medication except clonazepam, that ive developed somewhat of a tolerance to, helps me. Im really struggling and im in my 20s.
I was on 3 8mg suboxone strips a day... today I took maybe 2mgs... no withdrawals. The key is to cut the dose in half... then in half then in half and so on. Nothing was worse than getting off H and other opiates. Methadone withdrawals were bad but I went cold turkey.
I've been on subutex for 13yrs i'm now at 14mg as of last year i no longer get the euphoric effect which I'm gutted about. i'm thinking about going back on methadone as its a full agonist were as subutex is a partial agonist what do you think.
IMO suboxone is best for me… on methadone I still feel high… with sub I don’t… everyone I know on methadone only gets that because they feel high… IMO it’s bad but to each their own
Who’s had suboxone and methadone and what are the differences, is methadone better for heroin users and suboxone better for oxytocin users who just got addicted while waiting for major surgery and after???
Ive been prescribed both and Id say you're generally correct. Suboxone works for heroin as well but some heavy fentanyl users dont have as much luck with suboxone compared to methadone. I prefer suboxone personally, as I used everything besides fentanyl. Methadone made me feel sick all the time and the withdrawals from it are much worse than from suboxone in my experience.
As an addict it is important to me to feel that I have acually taken an opiod, thus keeping me from abusing. I do not nod out but I for sure feel it both physicaly and mentalt and that is long term importan. 100 times better than Buprenorphine because I did not feel anything at all
@@nikkib473 but In the general sense, MAT, combined with CBT, has positive outcomes. Yes it’s not for every. Single. Patient. But it can help the majority and be a starting/baseline point to work from there.
Anyone got any experience with using Kratom with methadone? Was thinking of using Kratom to reduce symptoms of withdrawal while weaning myself off methadone
Anyone ever experience morning nausea (almost every morning) and/or extreme unwanted weight loss when taking long term (more than a year)? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Hey, I know this will sound stupid, but you might be dehydrated. I would get these crazy bad nausea episodes that made me feel like I was gonna die, and I know for sure it was from being dehydrated. It may be in the morning because your body loses fluids while you sleep. Just something to consider, especially if you don't get any plain water intake
methadone does not get you high, UNLESS YOU TAKE IT WUTH OTHER DRUGS, LIKE XANAX IR KLONOPIN... maybe if you were doing that, ya you prolly were high...but methadone by itself will not get you high...

Same. I'm still on methadone ...I'm addicted to THAT now ...I unsuccessfully tried to taper awhile back ...it's harder than I imagined ..but like you ....I want my life back ... not just that...my family has been so supportive ..I've stolen frm them as ND lied to them in my pursuit of heroin /It's killing me seeing them suffer ...because of me ..I've let down everyone who's ever cared about me It's hard .You aren't alone in this ..
I almost died coming down one mg a day frm 100mg or so. And It was so bad and painful.. when I got to one mg I was crying. I went to a treatment center that wouldn't help me with anything. I ended up in the er twice for dehydration.. 4bbags of iv.. so painful 💔 and still I left and withdrawal lasted another month or month and a half. Till I couldnt anymore. So back on sub..
Dropping 1 MG per DAY? No wonder. You went down way too fast. Your body needs to acclimate over time so my clinic suggests you only drop like 2 MG's per WEEK. It's going to take a while to get off but going that route would make sure you get off with no withdrawal symptoms.
@@elizar827 yeah my clinic advises to drop no more than 2mg a week. I am doing 1 mg each week and if I notice any symptoms that are troublesome I just call them up right away and tell them to either bump me up another 1mg or hold me at where I am for a while.
@@nikkib473 that's way better then going through it.. & that they treat you like respectfully. 👍. The lady that would give me my medicine would ways have a problem with me or yell at me for no Reason. Or send me back a few numbers . So rude. Idk if she still works there. But alot of ppl would complain about her.
I wish I had never got on methadone! It becomes a huge crutch and you have to base everything in your life around the clinic, vacations, work, etc. If used short term fine but the clinic does not help at all with this, they want you there for life! If considering set a goal like 6 month taper or something otherwise you are better off going to a inpatient program for a little while for whatever your coming off. Currently day 52 no methadone and still feel withdrawal symptoms , I have yet to experience this while detoxing off anything else!
I’m sorry this has happened to you. I go to a clinic that gives you take homes as soon as you have a compliant drug screen, I only have to go in once a month now that I’m stabilized.
Amazing, those drawings!!... when synaptic transmission is just a theory. If you were wondering why you see cartoons rather than actual photos of synapse gaps and neurotransmitters, it is because it is most likely scientific make believe. The industry makes medicine seem so precise and "scientific", when everything is still as mysterious in the world as it was during medieval times. The only difference is we have a better understanding of what substances/chemical compounds have on the average human body, and a lot of credit goes to the Nazis unethical treatment of groups they considered "lesser" than themselves. That, and Big Pharma loves money, so they make new drugs almost daily I imagine.
This almost took me out as well. A weeks supply and temptation after only haven taken suboxone for the last few years. My wife found me barely alive and hit me with narcan. I immediately went back ti suboxone. Im truly sorry for your loss. Its so sad and so scary. ❤
It is very degrading though on these programs in Canada,.they make you sample (urine) before you get anything while yur in full view on camera's, it's disgusting..

Word of advice Stay away from other stimulants during withdrawal like coffee, cigarettes etc These are stimulants that make you want pills or a more euphoric feel so dont do coffee or cigs
I don’t see anything wrong (seriously). Are you sure that you are in a position to be judging someone else’s looks? I’ll bet you anything that she’s a hell of a lot better looking than you are.

I wasn’t educated on it enough going into it all I know is I was taking 20-30 oxys, Percs, etc and was desperate and 3 years into the program I started hearing from people that I’d been on them too long and that my dr was probably a quack and heard from people who took them say the withdrawals were worse than pills when coming off them so where I’m at with my job and insurance I’m fine to just stay on them as long as I can and I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it
Long term affects aren’t even known yet. It messes up your hormones, and thyroid after years
@@robertworton2394 u r correct, and it fucks up your kidney's too. Suboxone is horrible.
@@carolinewells4355 well I’m still taking half a strip a day and will continue to lower the dose until I feel like I can go without WD’s
@@beatlefan713 I've been down to 4mg of sub for the last 6 years. Its tough bro
@@carolinewells4355 I hear ya! Maybe soon we’ll be rid of the need for it.
In was in the clinic and one day this guy in knew who had been in there clinic for years was informed because b of his heart n they would have to stop his treatment basically immediately. That scared me to death.
Was on Methadone for almost 10 years
It almost killed me.
Im now on subxone. Love subxone works great.
Methadone I wish I would've never touched it
How did it almost kill you
Been on suboxone for 6 years…exceedingly hard to kick, but very good medication.
@@MiguelTeixeiraRosa methadone full agonist opoid like other pain meds. Tolerance probably built up fast and needed more n morw
@jordanmunoz9021 what does that have to do with "almost killing" him, though?
Don't abuse methadone like you did the drugs that got you here.
Except we're trying to ban kratom in favor of this super strong medication. Disgusting
I’m sorry read the science methadone has been proved and tested dude what has kratom got over it ha
Do you not pay attention? Methadone is a schedule II. Incredibly serious charges if caught without a script. Methadone has been around for a long time and tested in a way that it can save lives.
Do something about it then maybe just grew p.m.
Well it doesn't have to come down to kratom vs methadone kratom works so does methadone
It only causes things to become even worse in the long run!
Until they are ready to get off ,, methadone detox can last months to years,,,, they forget to tell you that...
100 times better than Buprenorphine because I did not feel anything at all
Methadone saved my life. Gave me a life.
The main reason for addition is trauma and treatment of PTSD can get rid of most and or all additions.
I didn't know I needed ptsd to add
Everyone's recovery and needs are different. What works for one may not work for the next.
@@nikkib473 but In the general sense, MAT, combined with CBT, has positive outcomes. Yes it’s not for every. Single. Patient. But it can help the majority and be a starting/baseline point to work from there.
What lol
Suboxone has been a nightmare - switching to Methodone after 15 years of hell with mostly-suboxone.
Hows the methadone treating you?
Anyone got any experience with using Kratom with methadone? Was thinking of using Kratom to reduce symptoms of withdrawal while weaning myself off methadone
Anyone ever experience morning nausea (almost every morning) and/or extreme unwanted weight loss when taking long term (more than a year)? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Weight gain yes
You shouldn't have nausea. Adjust your dose. When I was on 60mg I felt that. Now I'm on 110mg and feel great up to 30hr
One of the worst drugs ever, suboxone actually got me sober. Methadone kept me high for a looong time.
Wtf methadone don’t get you high 😂😂😂
methadone does not get you high, UNLESS YOU TAKE IT WUTH OTHER DRUGS, LIKE XANAX IR KLONOPIN... maybe if you were doing that, ya you prolly were high...but methadone by itself will not get you high...
@@jamesravenjr how? I actually take like 300mg of methadone and im high ASF.. CANT EVEN KEEP MY EYES OPEN
@@porkch0p33 get yourself down to a low daily dose like myself i got down to 30, but on fridays i would buy a 100 ml bottle off another dude who had take homes. nod city
The issue is the most in need are people who can't afford or able to get there every day.
I started taking buprenorphine to stop herion withdrawal and instead i became addicted. I want my old life back😔
your heroin addicted life?
For me methadone was a life saver. But I did not mind, metha or subi I didnt care, I needed help. Got it and helped
Same. I'm still on methadone ...I'm addicted to THAT now ...I unsuccessfully tried to taper awhile back ...it's harder than I imagined ..but like you ....I want my life back ...
not just that...my family has been so supportive ..I've stolen frm them as ND lied to them in my pursuit of heroin /It's killing me seeing them suffer ...because of me ..I've let down everyone who's ever cared about me
It's hard .You aren't alone in this ..
does methadone get u high & what happens if I do heroin w methadone my system?
@Mart Kap were so fortunate to have supportive family... if it weren't for my dad, I would be homeless
They need too lift the strict usage of methadone
I almost died coming down one mg a day frm 100mg or so. And It was so bad and painful.. when I got to one mg
I was crying. I went to a treatment center that wouldn't help me with anything. I ended up in the er twice for dehydration.. 4bbags of iv.. so painful 💔 and still I left and withdrawal lasted another month or month and a half. Till I couldnt anymore. So back on sub..
I don’t blame you. I couldn’t go through that pain. I hope you’re doing good.
Dropping 1 MG per DAY? No wonder. You went down way too fast. Your body needs to acclimate over time so my clinic suggests you only drop like 2 MG's per WEEK. It's going to take a while to get off but going that route would make sure you get off with no withdrawal symptoms.
@@Remmy0930 omg wow ..
👍. in Croatia also

@@chetnik.91really, do you live there? I am thinking of moving to croatia
It served it’s purpose, but looking back I would’ve gone buvidal,
Amazing, those drawings!!... when synaptic transmission is just a theory.
We lost our sister the day she was given 7 days of methadone to drink all in one go.
This almost took me out as well. A weeks supply and temptation after only haven taken suboxone for the last few years.
My wife found me barely alive and hit me with narcan. I immediately went back ti suboxone.

Stay away from other stimulants during withdrawal like coffee, cigarettes etc
These are stimulants that make you want pills or a more euphoric feel so dont do coffee or cigs
