    A few years ago when I was going to buy this I was asking around discords and got laughed out of them for asking about a USB mic. Your review and your video on USB vs XLR helped me not feel as bad about picking one up. Years later I'm still using it, loving it, and getting nothing but compliments about my audio quality from people listening to me on the other end. So thank you!

      This is one of the best comments I could ever receive. I try to keep audio as non-elitist as possible, and always keep in mind that the best tool for the job is not going to be the same for everyone, and the best microphone is the one they have. Happy recording Yuki, and thank you for making my day.

    I use it for vocals on my demo songs and love it for that. It's very clear and captures my voice really accurately with no real frills. Nice and warm midtones, kind of like a Shure SM58 but not so middy.

    I have to lower the gain to 30%-40% with my ATR2500 and speak very very close to the mic, with a pop filter in-between. No background noise really and I get a clear podcast/radio style voice. Apply some compressor and EQ in your favourite sound tool afterwards. Perfect for very pro let's play commentary.

    I picked this up a few years ago for voiceover work and in an untreated room, it didn’t work at all. So I picked up a used Rode Podcaster that worked wonderfully until it crapped out while I was recording an audiobook. Now that I have a treated room, and this AT2020 USB+ is fantastic!

    It's like I've travelled back in time to see the fledgling Bandrew. No graphics, no box throw, no hat! But still solid basics, no hype, proper testing, pleasant personality.

    Bought this mic, one of the best I've had. Flat EQ with a good sensitivity. Remember with USB mics, most are 16 bit, not 24 bit - that's the only caveat.

    • @IanRonquillo
      @IanRonquillo 4 роки тому

      Yeah. The weird thing is the cheaper Audio Technica atr2500x-usb version is 24 bit while this more expensive at2020usb+ is still 16 bit. i guess bit depth doesn't affect the audio quality that much as compared to the frequency response.

    As someone who has used this mic for years for streaming, here are my pros and cons...
    Pros: As mentioned, it's great for picking up instruments.
    Awesome sound quality for the price. You can do a little software processing to make it better but its acceptable out of the box.
    That wide pattern is great for one mic for multiple people. Came in really handy when the girlfriend joined my stream. We even had a 3rd person join us once and it picked all of us up pretty well.
    Cons: Again, that wide pattern. It picks up EVERY single keyboard sound and even the scroll wheel on my mouse sometimes. Also, your going to have to listen to Curiosity rover sing happy birthday to itself on Mars. I've tried everything I can with Voicemeter Banana and filters in OBS to make it better and fine tune the gate, but there's just no winning. You're just going to have to deal with ambient background sound.
    If you're a music streamer or you can't afford a fancy mutli-person setup this is a great mic. Otherwise it's say look for a comparable dynamic mic.

    Been using a $50 ebay mic for about 5 years now and it's time to upgrade. This mic caught my eye for the sole reason that I have been using the same Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones for about 8 years now and it's still holding up with build and audio quality, absolutely amazed at how good these products are, have replace earcups once and they are due again but that's about it! This mic quality sounds great for me and I can assume that it will last an impressive amount of time like my headphones. And just like the headphones, the price is very reasonable, this is making it an easy decision for sure!
    Thanks for the review many years later!

    Just a great solid USB mic. Plosives plosives, but popper stopper (or sock-- it's a cheap mic) clears it up. I use this on the road for recording voice overs -- on an iPhone! (It works!) Who cares if it gets beat up? It's $150 bucks! Buy 5 of 'em. Oh look, I commented on this a year ago! What a dork.

      I'm very, very late but my suggestion would be, if you're going to record music, go for an xlr mic and a nice interface.

    • @nonplusultra18
      @nonplusultra18 4 роки тому +1

      @Mohamed Wagdy yes it will but it will add latency and your recording will get more and more off timing, or at least that's my expirience with my usb blue yeti.

    • @nonplusultra18
      @nonplusultra18 4 роки тому +1

      @Mohamed Wagdy interface behringer umc404hd, mic mxl v67g or sennheiser e835 (depending if you need a condenser or dynamic mic), i would personally save money on the stand and pop filter and get the cheapest, and for the xlr cable get the shortest that you know won't be a hassle to work with.

    I find this exact mic to be ruthlessly flat in frequency response, hugely preferrable to unnaturally plummy and/or sharp sounding mics. The natural, though very slightly creamy sound is perfect for unspecialised use. If you don't have a massive budget and want just one mic to do everything, I chose this one and have been very pleased by it. The only downside is the short stand provided, ideally needs to be replaced by something that places it closer to your mouth for quietly spoken vocal recording. It works fine on your desk, but sounds best at about 1 foot and thank you for the 'standing it on a box' tip. That's now working great for me. Can't believe I didn't think of it !

    I think I got fucked when I bought mine. Yours sounds much clearer and picks up your sound further away too. My mic won't pickup anything past like 3 ft away, and everything close to it has an annoying hum and sounds out of pitch.

    So does it the dial turn it into a speaker or does it make it so that people listening to you talk through the mic can hear your the stuff you’re listening to at the time

    Oh so the black dots are painted on by purpose. I thought I got a defected one returned by someone else because the black dots looked like someone accidentally sprayed black spray paint on it.

    I’m planning to do something related to my bucket list. I’m going to test as much mics as I can personally as possible by borrowing mics with ‘Free Returns’. Starting with this one.
    For the most part it might be USB mics, but I might test some XLR mics to make some use of an ART USB Dual Pre that I have(even though it might not be the best interface restricted to mostly 16 bit).

    One plus is that it doesn't seem like you need a pop filter with this one. Too bad, though, that they couldn't have put BOTH USB and XLR on this mic like they did with the 2005 model (AT2005USB, not talking about the year), but the 2005 sounds like your typical handheld dynamic, with lots of plosives.

    this microphone is sibilant-heavy. Not sure why, the cheaper model ATR2500 is a lot more neutral and pleasant sounding.

    Don't know if you respond to years old videos but I have some questions I'm hoping you can help me with. I've been wanting to get a microphone for over a year now but haven't really been sure what to buy. I don't really fully understand audio in general. I've been looking for an affordable microphone that I can use to speak with friends such as Discord but also to do some streaming here and there, it's weird but I feel like I need to say that I have no intentions of being another wannabe full time streamer. I do however want quality, I'd like to listen to something that sounds nice so I think I should provide the same thing. So the questions are. How do I learn and pick a microphone? How do I know if a microphone will serve me as I intend? I also have concerns of keyboard and other noises pick up, I have an MX brown keyboard on the way to reduce noise as compared to my loud clicky MX red. I greatly appreciate your time if you do see this and I am grateful for any response. Thank you.

      well, if u dont know all of the information about a microphone then u should get a usb microphone over an xlr microphone. I recommend the blue snowball and the price is 70$ .If u want to, u can buy the hyperx cloud alpha and the price is 93$ and it comes with a good microphone.If u have the budget, u should get the at2020 usb and the price is 150$

    I have the AT2020 USB not the plus. I've been using it for UA-cam recordings of my cover songs for quite a few years. I found your eval very relevant for uses exactly like mine. Thanks. Would there be any point upgrading to the AT2020+?

    I am planning to buy this microphone, As I'm a gamer, I know it would probably hear my (mechanical) Keyboard. But i do at the time have a blue snowball so when i chat with someone the keyboard is louder than my actual voice XD

    My keyboard is a laptop keyboard so I don't think it's too bad considering with the mic I have now.
