Nice catches, and great vid! Food for thought when handling trout they are super delicate not good to lip or gill them if you release. Enjoyed watching, love ice fishing vids

Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻 Tried our best. Only one we had gloves on for or lipped was the one we kept. Other ones were held behind the gill plate delicately. Always trying to keep that in mind.

You do well to brave the cold weather. I am always amazed about how fish thrive in such cold water.

What are the best ice lures/baits to use for brook trout? I live in Ontario as well and tried a stocked brook trout lake but couldn’t get a bite. I was fishing from about 1pm-4pm, I saw a brookie swim by my hole but ignored my lures.

The lures I use in this video are my regular go-to’s. A small nymph or bug for jigging. Have done very well many times on it. This specific one is a VMC bug. For the still lines, I set out a smaller minnow on a hook with a split shot weight about 6-10 inches above. Also small spoons such as flutter spoons tipped with a minnow head work great as well.

@@BrydonB I was using tungsten jigs tipped with wax worms, and a small buckshot spoon with a minnow head, caught lots of perch but ignored by the trout lol. Thanks for the tips👍🏼

If you are going to release fish, don't touch the gills. I don't think your theory on bleeding fish being OK in cold water is accurate.

Gills were not touched. Just gill plate which is never a concern. A bit of bleeding from the mouth will definitely coagulate very quick in cold water.
