I got a 1976 812 for free with a mow deck and original gravely trailer that hooks up to the mower. The thing had been sitting for years and was covered in grime. Luckily the grime actually preserved it from rusting. I blew out the fuel lines got a new fuel filter, new points and cleaned the carburetor. I also found a broken wire, after all was said and done it started up and purred like a kitten. It shifted through all 8 gears(hi and love 4 gears). These Kohler motors are pretty amazing, I'm glad I spent the time and $20 to work on it. Now I just need a new battery.

Original batteries for gravelys were group 22f , now days you can use a group 26 r from Walmart. You can sometimes buy a used battery from Auto salvage yard
Or scrap yards a lot cheeper then new. Three of my garden tractors have used group 26r battery's they are three years old and still work.2 to help you prime the fuel system on old gravelys remove gas cap, put fuel in, THEN wipe off gas tank and put your mouth to tank and blow in.this may take you three good puff to prime fuel system and use a clear fuel filter. Jim master small engine mechanic. 3 I owne a gravely 8123, A 10a walk behind gravely ,a f.m.c. pre. Mtd bolens tube frame garden tractor and a 1976 John Deere 400 garden tractor , my Deere is the heavyweight tractor out of three.

I think it's amazing that you can remember when you last ran your many machines. I only have 3 running ones and I can't remember when the last time I started them, even if it was within the last year.
