I will miss this… it was a brilliant idea whoever came up with it. One of the most entertaining things i’ve ever watched on youtube. Michelle kills it each time!
This series got me into the channel and I'm not leaving. It was always fun but yeah, sometimes it felt a bit serious, so I'm not mad that it is ending.
You're lucky to be able to spend so much on movies. Enjoy them. 😁 I do appreciate you showing us how much you spent and I agree with you that maybe you can save a little with bundles, and sales.
I am proud of you Ken. You spent more than my mortgage, utilities, cell, and internet combined in December. Here is what I am personally doing to scale back. Purchasing 4k only unless I can get the Blu for less than $6. Concentrating on must haves and special limited releases like Arrow box sets and steelbooks. General releases I am waiting for sub $15 trying to hold off until sub $10. On sites that have shipping charges I am waiting until I have a collection of titles I want to buy at said prices but a volume of titles to get me free shipping. I have such a backlog of titles to watch, I and certainly my wallet could stand a few lean years.
Another way to save is looking on ebay for listings without digital codes or slipcovers. I often find new releases that way. I don't need slips or codes.
I found some of the early audits to be very therapeutic. They helped me deal with the guilt about some of my own excessive months. 👍 So far, I'm not finding the scheduled releases for 2024 to be all that exciting (I'm not a Conan guy). Maybe that will help bring some costs down. 😁
Enjoyed video Ken, i hope you and Michelle do give the Harry Potter movies a watch they are really good..I really love that Young Guns edition as well.
Almost $9k in a year. Meanwhile I regret paying $30 for a 4k immediately after walking out a store 😂. But in all honesty man you really did open my eyes to how much i was spending and kind of wasting on movies each month so I definitely dialed it back. Thank you for that!
Your wife is a bombshell. You two make a great pair. I know most of you see large numbers here, I see some great support for physical media and I'm ALL about it. Well done. PS. Your collecting is costing you $23.89 a day. SO think of it this way, you'd be spending more per day if you were a smoker.
No way people smoke for 24 dollars each day A quick Google search says it's 12.85 dollar per day. The amount Ken uses on physical media is either okey or stupidity depending on what he earns and what else he uses money on, can't really tell and it's really none of our business 😅
3 things you could do to lower your costs for 2024: 1) Don't make so many (if any) blind buys, 2) Don't double dip especially on box sets (just wait a bit and get the one you like most, 3) Try to cut back on buying so many schlocky b-movie discs (even if the art work is good)
This is a great video; it inspired me to audit my physical media expenditures from 2023. While my grand total wasn't quite as high as yours (but kinda close), it was pretty high because there were so many great releases this year. Also - I choose to be a day one buyer because I want to support the 4K/UHD format. I think I'll be a bit more judicious with my purchases in 2024.
It's so funny you're so proud of yourself for spending almost $9,000 a year on physical media LOL the cost of living must be amazing in Kentucky I need to move there from New Jersey LOL
It was fun while it lasted. Great work you two. Edit: I would check with your CPA, if these movies are considered business expenses for your movie review channel, then you might be keeping track of what's spent on DVDs anyway for a yearly audit. Just make a separate folder for your DVD related expenses and bam (that's not financial advice, consult an advisor). The 2023 audit highlight reel is a fun idea too, in my opinion. I'm sorry I'm a bitter, jealous, and angry asshole.
I'm 55 years old and I have probably 1200 total pieces of physical media including DVD Blu-ray and 4K and I'm really picky about my selections and 89 percent of mine is horror movies
I bought around 1400+ media discs from complete series boxsets, boxsets, 4K blu-rays, 3D blu-rays, blu-rays and DVDs. My grand total for 2023 is $4838.43CAD.
@@GamezGuru1 Hardly any have been watched and none of them have been cheaper because many of my physical media discs were 50 cents Canadian and we also have dollar days at our Amazon return store and have gotten several new release 4K blu-rays for a Canadian Loonie..Look at how much I spent on average is $3.36 this includes over 100 4K blu-rays. So ya you have to be smart on your purchasing.
Wow almost 9k and I thought I spent way too much at $1359.11 (for the year) on 93 UHD's & blu rays...but hey if you got it like that, go for it and enjoy!!!
I'm too scared to tally mine up necessarily... it's probably in the same ball-park ($9,000-$10,000) if I added things up. Some months I spend a lot more and others take more of a break with fewer purchases. So it varies month to month sometimes. It definitely adds up to a lot, though.
I just want to say. I hope you two always stay together forever 😊. You two are great together. These videos have been great. What a finale. I'll definitely check out the playlist and watch them all 😊. The harry potter films are fantastic. I would love to see you two's thoughts. I have them in 4k also. They are great in 4k.
Come on Ken your channel numbers are high enough to cover your spending. More power to you cos you put the time in to do the videos but it doesn't cost you for your buying.
I especially liked this series, because it felt so real and raw and very relatable. Each Collector always has to think and struggle with the financial part of their passion. But of course it’s your personal decision and business what to put on your channel. And you both also don’t look very enthusiastic anymore regarding this topic throughout this video, so maybe it’s really just the right time to end this series. It also did not feel like you really wanted to do this series to actually be accountable for your monthly budget, as you often stated throughout this series. To me that would have needed some kind of budget you actually tried to hit, but that wasn’t really the case. But your interactions were always fun to watch, thanks for all the videos in this series and bravery to share this topic with the Blu Tube World! Greetings from Germany: Chris PS: Below 10k is actually way less than I expected and your yearly total isn’t sadly that far away from my own spendings regarding my BD & CD Collecting. But my spending only reached such highs, since I‘m only accountable for myself anymore. So such decisions are only effecting myself and nobody else… ;)
In 2024, I am striving to be more selective in purchasing blu rays. The titles have to have a re-watchable factor, 4K upgrades on my most cherished movies and not be tempted by impulse buying or unnecessary double dipping.
I never thought Michelle was actually mad at you lol My favorite parts were her reactions to the movies not the price. I still laugh at her response to one of your Vinegar Syndrome movies “That’s porn” lol or when she (rightfully) criticized Shout Factory releases “that not worth it”. I’m sorry people made her feel like she was being mean she was hilarious. That being said I understand you wanting to protect her from the haters. She’s lovely & hilarious & I guess I’ll tune in to your channel together to watch her. ❤
damn nice video. think my total for 2023 was about $200, but around 100$ net after selling older editions. i think 2024 might be a bit more expensive...
I found the Arrow Chucky set superfluous to needs especially when the 1st film isn’t 4k it would drive me mad glad I got the scream factory ones but I did stop there.
I spent $1708.41 exactly on 4k PM/ blu-rays from Black Friday 2023 to Jan 20th with both of my Arrow Conan 4k LE's, Leviathan 4k Kino, Arrow Invaision of the body snatchers 4k Le, Carlitos way Arrow 4k Le, kinos Force 10 from Navarone 1080p bluray, the thing from another world Warner archives collection and the Friday the 13th eight movie bku ray set which has been ordered between the last few day and I haven't received them yet, but I added them to the total... I also had to buy another shelf and sold some of my Spawn statues, most of my Neca Godzilla window box statues, And a few other rare figures to make up some cash flow... My wife isn't mad, because we're in a really great situation in our life and our youngest child out of four is 30 years old. She's mad at me for what she calls a waste of time and money, and are dust collectors. She doesn't understand that this is my drug addiction, which is alot safer then if I was partying wink 😉 😏... She also knows I have an extensive gun collection of some very pricey rifles and hand handguns. Which she made me open up the safes to double check my collection, so when seen everything was still there, she calmed down and grabbed her personal custom 2 kimber Eclipse .45 acp out of one of the safes to keep on her stating: "I DON'T TRUST YOU NOT SELLING MY BABY." SO I'm probably around or between $7,800.00 to $9,200.00.... I watch you Ken and Planet CHH and Films at home on their movie reviews/ opinions then at the end of their video my cash Flys away. I can't tell you how many times Ken so eloquently and enthusiastic ly talks about a movie and its like a vacuum turns on and sucks the cash right out of my Pocket😂😂😂😂; thank you Ken for helping me work my way into a lower tax bracket every year, also probably a divorce one day, which she isn't getting half of my Movies ... over my dead body😂😂. Keep collecting!!! One more thing: Ken, your a lucky man to have a cool and laid back wife like that, you've been blessed.....
People seem to forget that running a UA-cam channel costs money. Other channels have huge production costs, fancy studios, professional editors plus whatever is associated with the actual content - buying movies is literally Ken's only cost, so kinda harsh to criticise his spending when it provides all his content, and therefore ad revenue. PS: I thought the annual audit was a great idea, even if only on the other channel.
I never buy anything on day one ken especially when they drop in price like there's loads of movies that I haven't bought yet that came out in 2023 I want to get into collecting neca figures so I'm taking this year off from buying movies I might get a few here and there but I won't be going too crazy!
Sure, Ken put a lot of money towards films, but look at all he also spent on hard liquor, cigarettes, and pot. Oh, that's right - he didn't buy any of that trash. AND he kept it under 10 grand. I'd say he sorta did okay. Just keep those annual totals lower and lower every year - and as always, I strongly advise no double-dipping on things like steelbooks, etc. For years I've avoided stupid stuff like that, and I've saved a fortune by doing so!
That total is ONLY €726.7766666666667 a month :) That's not bad considering you make some off the channel. If it was $600 a month out of pocket thats only $150 a week, it's not like you need food. Set a limit to 5000/6000 a year and budget it for a month. No one has the room for so much media anyway.
We have the right to do whatever we want with our money, as long as we don't harm anyone. But there are things I simply don't understand. Why should we buy films we don't like just because of the cover? Why should we buy the same movie multiple times in the same format and same restoration? So much money is thrown away... just my opinion!
Love your comment and anxiety is an understatement, because I added it up early this morning after hearing Ken mention Audit and I put my spending g amounts in this comment section. If you read it, you'll probably laugh ... keep collecting and if the anxiety gets worse when you do the math then take Xanex bar or two and take a deep breath 😂😂😂 ... keep collecting brothrr.....
I don't know anybody who does an audit on the movies purchased. When I had Laserdisc,I spent over $35,000 in a year, but I gained it back when I sold most of them.I still have Laserdiscs and my original still working Pioneer CLD-D701 player.
I imagine you bought the Severin titles now to try and get reviews out whilst they're still hot/new, but realistically will the ad revenue offset the cost if you had waited a year?
WHHHATTTTT?!!!!!! No Harry Potter movies of all those movies you have??!! HOLD ON!!!! You have children together and haven’t seen all of the amazing HP movies??!!!!!🤦🏼♂️ Dude i need that Stand By Me steelbook for real!!! And i got Monster Squad for $31 on Amazon yesterday 🤷🏼♂️😂
Personally as I am going through a tougher time now I would not spend more than $10 on any film even if has to a bootleg version still to be in that limit still all the best to you and your family. Trevor From Australia
Ken , i really do think that total was verging on Obscene , you really should think about what you buy, especially blind buys which i never do, and please for your own sanity stop buying stuff like Bubba ho Top, i mean omgg, what a monumental waste of money. May i ask all the blu-rays you have bought have you seen them ? Oh any news on the Hitcher from Second Sight?
If i spent 1,300 bucks on movies in a month my wife would literally take my kids and leave me....i guess it all depends in what you make every month, if your take home is about 9 grand a month your good lol
Here’s a question what is the main reason you buy physical media, to fuel your channel content, to increase your collection, nice packaging or to keep up with the joneses and you have to give just one answer.
End 2023 with The Aftermath, Isle of Dogs and Ad Astra on Bluray. Buy 3 pay 2, so all three for € 19,98 (from € 9,99 for € 6,66). Real Fox titles for that price not happend that much.
Your wife's face impressions are priceless😊
Keep on spending, Kenny. The world is yours.
Like it’s Brewsters Millions
Exactly and he'll be able to catch up to Tony just like that lmao 🤣
I will miss this… it was a brilliant idea whoever came up with it. One of the most entertaining things i’ve ever watched on youtube. Michelle kills it each time!
Keep the audits !!! So entertaining
Great finale! Maybe there should be a reboot or a spin-off? Ken can audit Michelle 🤣

I Agree , My Wife Would Kill Me If I Spent That Muck on Movies !!
I am proud of you Ken. You spent more than my mortgage, utilities, cell, and internet combined in December.

I enjoyed these audits. Thought they were fun. Thanks for all yall do for physical media.
Thanks fur one last audit y’all! Here’s to a heathy 2024

I spent more than that on beer last year
My God. That face of Michelle when Ken tried to explain how superspecial edition are those 40 dollars steelbooks 😂😂😂. I will miss those audits😢
What I spend at Vinegar Syndrome was enough for my (essentially) spouse to say "I think you just need to subscribe."
...and it wasn't a trap... 😂
Enjoyed video Ken, i hope you and Michelle do give the Harry Potter movies a watch they are really good..I really love that Young Guns edition as well.

Ken, I feel your pain, same here at home. Keep up the good work.
YES YES YES Ken lets do a yearly audit. We would love that too
If you want to promote married with media blu ray audit is the best way to do that
Thanks for the audits, i will miss them but i understand that sometimes things need to change. 🙌
Noooo itttss Ovvver!! Great video Ken and Michelle! A lot for one month but why do I think the total for the year isn’t that bad 😂.
Once you start collecting it's like a train on the move ,very hard to slow down. Thanks for the insight,
It's OK to spend more each year because we make more each year!
And BD/4K discs are more expensive each year! And SO MUCH to buy!!!
Thank you for sharing for the time you did Ken. makes me always feel better about the way too much I spend on movies! lol

Yeah the amount of buying for the sake of buying is absurd. You can see it in his wife's face
Your wife is thinking, "this could have been a nice family vacation" 😂
A yearly audit would be cool. everyone likes seeing how much others spend on stuff.

No more ball busting 😭
Michelle is a saint
Ken, you're like an alcoholic but you don't drink alcohol you just buy physical media physical media coholic😂
His liver thanks him.
Does this mean you’re no longer buying movies !?
Ahhh nah! Hell NAH!
Steelbooks will kill your budget very quickly
Personally as I am going through a tougher time now I would not spend more than $10 on any film even if has to a bootleg version still to be in that limit still all the best to you and your family. Trevor From Australia
$8,700+ when you get free movies for review! Poor Michelle. $8,700 would be a nice vacation trip!
That's an insane amount of money on physical media lol. I probably did £1K the entire year. I'm a lot more picky on what I purchase. 😆
$8.7k US DOLLARS! JESUS! 😂😂😂
Yeah, but if you really break it down, it's just $23 a day. Some people pay that much for a coffee in the morning. I make my own coffee, so there. 😂😂
You buy a lot of stuff i never would
I got 12 movies today I spend 700 dollars today
End 2023 with The Aftermath, Isle of Dogs and Ad Astra on Bluray. Buy 3 pay 2, so all three for € 19,98 (from € 9,99 for € 6,66). Real Fox titles for that price not happend that much.
It’s a good thing she is supportive but in an alternate universe if she were to leave you, she’d take half of all that just because she can.
I think I'm going go back to digital. Physical is way too expensive
