  • Today I am chatting with Martin Sadler from Dent-Remover. I have selected some of the highlights from my recent interview with Martin as we discuss the pros and cons of mobile vs premises, in other words, working a paintless dent removal business as a mobile set-up from a vehicle or from set premises. lpo.li/yourpdrtraining
    We also discuss some PDR Tools and additional equipment to help with PDR. The full interview is available to watch within Learn PDR Online's dedicated training site. We also chat about the pros and cons of working retail versus trade for PDR Technicians.

    I have had it both ways, mobile and in shop. I enjoy the freedom of being mobile and working for the dealerships. Once you gain the confidence of the dealerships they trust you and give you much freedom, sometimes I can't find the manager to approve my list, so I just get to work. Oh another thing, I like to travel and go on trips, I'm not tied down to a shop . And also, retail customers are a pain . 😊

      Hey Joel, yes I'm fully mobile and I love it, I enjoy the freedom I like to travel around only difference is I generally prefer retail customers over trade although there can be exception each way of course ha ha

    Good advise chaps, I would say to anyone starting out if you have a garage or know a trade customer who has space they will let you use to repair customers vehicles instead of turning the bigger jobs away because of the downside of working road side etc take full advantage, I’ve not had a single customer who wouldn’t bring the vehicle to me, another up side being able to charge more, I’m earning more money taking on the bigger jobs than I was running around the garages doing loads of panel. Thanks again guys great insight pros and cons. 😊

      Thanks for your comment Adam and thanks for the additional insight. Yes I agree if you do have an indoor space you can work from when you need it this would also be an ideal option.

    Nice video Tom, is a workshop something you would consider for yourself or also as a training facility.

      Thanks Bill, I have thought about it over the years. I generally don't like being tied down to a set location for work however I have been looking recently into potential units for training so who knows :)

    run your business from home. save on business premises and you can claim part of your household expenses against tax. You can operate both mobile and workshop facilities. I've done both mobile repairs and workshop premises but the most cost effective for both customer service and profit margins is to work from home and be partially mobile.

      Good reply. The only thing is most mortgages have a condition preventing you from working from home these days. And possible have to apply for business rates on your property too

      OK. In my case....the Inland Revenue (HMRC) evaluated my home and determined that 'although there is evidence that work is being carried out on the premises, but not sufficient to warrant rating for business purposes '. So with that in mind, carry out dent removing from home but don't put a sign up !

      @LearnPDROnline  Рік тому +2

      Yes but only to a degree, I have had some issues when it comes to running a business from home, you can definitely work from a home office and claim a % of household expenses as business costs but you can not not run full workshop facilities legally from home without registering your property as a business premises, you can however carry out the occasional repair at home on your driveway or garage but that is different to being able to benefit from full work shop facilities discussed in this episode 👍

      Absolutely correct....I think that the policy of the local authority is that there's a difference between running a business from home is for profit whilst earning a living from home is identified as self sufficiency, although it's is not stated in writing. You carnt put a sign up.
      However.....as you were discussing mobile service and workshop repairs it might be acceptable and keep within the bounds of Domestic use if your principle activities are from a mobile operation with the occasional workshop repair for more substantial repairs...
