    I love this stuff!
    Currently living in Idaho but grew up in N. Alabama.
    We used to hang around Cotaco Creek in Eastern Morgan County.
    We pronounced that CO tA cO Creek. You pronounce that
    Cot a cO. You are seriously my favorite channel. We used to comb the ag fields around Redstone Arsenal and found a few things after spring discing.
    Thanks for being so dedicated. Truly a YT treasure.

I'm sure u probably already know this, but if you want to get the leaves off of the sifter , u can after sifting the sand u can push your sifter down under the water and out from you and it will clear those leaves and light material off , so u can see better.     hey - hey ditchwalker;
    may or may not… but doe in the Heart of Dixie, we find lots of blowgun “dart points.”. I’m talkin anywhere from 1/4” up to 1/2” at. widest point. usually, jut triangular shaped, nicely worked flint flakes, ( very few jasper, or chert). the way u sling around the contents of your sieve, I’m wonderin if u’r lookin out for the smaller dart points, or is it that there just aren’t many around where u hound for rocks?
    great finds, I backed up to some of u’r’18, & ‘19 vids; man u got some beaut’s outta the ditches & creeks!
    we find very few of the points in excess of 3”. only ever found one Clovis in 40+/- yrs. of hunting, all media, but mostly field finds. the hydro power plant regulates the water in the tributaries, and we very rarely get low water, to the extent that would allow wading in the creeks and rivers.
    great finds @ditchwalker!
    ps: give us u’r opinion on why the oldest points / tools are so much better made, prettier, than the newer stuff?
    u would think, trading methods and technologies, that knapping would improve, rather than becoming more crude, huh?

    • @Theditchwalker
      @Theditchwalker  10 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I get what your saying....I do look out for them...there doesn't seem to be many in this particular creek...just a few.I usually get them with this double screened sifter. Northern Mississippi has some of the best streams there is to wade and look for artifacts. I hunt the tombigbee watershed region...all the tributaries in the area drain in a southerly direction toward tombigbee river....it is mostly limestone to soft clay bottomed creeks with sand mixed in..the drainage is swift.,rolling over and wiping clean everything. Only in the winter. They silt in late spring for the summer

  • @billskinner623
    @billskinner623 Рік тому

    That last rock may actually be a shear stone or anvil stone. It would be used to hold a smaller rock to shear it in half to be used as a preform. Pretty sure that large flake you got at the first site was made that way.

      When you go be so careful, those Water-moccasin 🐍guys are territorial/aggressive/not friendly!
      Go after a rain, begin with a shallow ditch-creek, that aligns with the run off from a a field, particularly after they turn the soil.
      Look at the Landscape, try to pick a natural landscape that provides "water/creek or close to river, a natural break in the terrain with Trees, and blocking North Winds."
      Watch for areas for good Clay collection, you can find artifacts close to these zones.
      Above all, (expect to find something delicious, take time to appreciate the environment, give thoughts of appreciation to the Creator and the Earth for all the Life energies they sustain.
      Enjoy, take your time, so you don't break a piece getting it out of the soil.
      Best Thoughts,
      Best Finds!
      PS: Wear thin cotton Long sleeve shirt to keep the mosquitoes at bay, use Vicks Salve and (can add Peppermint Oil and Cedar Oil), to keep bugs away.
