    Here in Massachusetts we are pretty much a big block of granite and there is no really suitable stone for napping. I do have a bud who has found some great points of non native material. Apparently the savages had well established systems of trade and barter.. History is so twisted. When the Mayflower landed in Plymouth they quickly ran into Squanto who spoke English perfectly and had lived in England for 8 years. So what is it the pilgrims did? Truth be told they were making beer.

    Is it rare to find stone artifacts from less than a thousand years ago? Say, like just before the Europeans came to the New World? I never see a video about a point or tool found that may have been from just prior to the Columbus era. Were there just much fewer artifacts to discover from that time in history?

    • @aquablue6301
      @aquablue6301 5 років тому +1

      @aklat
      By and large and generally speaking.... The bow and arrow came into widespread use about one thousand years ago in the new world... they say. The need for atlatl sized dart points gave way to smaller "bird points" as the new technology caught on.
      Many cultures and millennia had come and gone before the time of the bow. This would explain why you find more older (archaeic, woodland etc.) stuff than relics from more recent or even historical times. I'd say most of the larger points/blades found that roughly coincide with Columbian times weren't projectile points at all, but rather knives, utilitarian, ceremonial or otherwise.
      I live in Texas, and have found many many points, scrapers, tools and stone artifacts of all descriptions... precious few are younger than a thousand years old.

    • @massannihilation2443
