- MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Riley Ferguson threw for 398 yards and six touchdown passes, and Jacobi Francis broke up a fourth-down pass in the closing seconds to lead Memphis to a 48-45 win over No. 25 UCLA on Saturday.
Francis' breakup with 56 seconds left prevented another fourth-quarter comeback by Bruins quarterback Josh Rosen, who finished the game with 463 yards on 34 of 56 throws and four TD passes.

But unlike in the Bruins' opener when Rosen engineered a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Texas A&M, the Memphis defense stiffened on UCLA's final possession, sending the Bruins (2-1) to their first loss of the season.
For all of the hype about Rosen, considered one of the top quarterbacks in the country, Ferguson matched his counterpart, completing 23 of 38 passes for Memphis (2-0), and his connections with wide receiver Anthony Miller meant the difference. Miller caught nine passes for 185 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
UCLA had taken a 45-41 lead early in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard pass from Rosen to Austin Roberts with 11:51 left.
But Memphis answered with a 4-play, 81-yard drive, the final 3 coming on a pass from Ferguson to Phil Mayhue with 9:56 left to go ahead.
From there, it was up to the Tigers' defense, which was capped by Francis' knock-away, sending the Memphis fans into celebration mode, after the Tigers defeated their third ranked opponent in each of the last three seasons.
Rosen, who had not thrown an interception in the first two games, threw two picks, one of which was returned 60 yards for a touchdown by Memphis linebacker Tim Hart in the third quarter. His other interception stalled a UCLA drive deep in Memphis territory with just under 7 minutes left.
THE TAKEAWAY
UCLA: Rosen made a couple of bad decisions that led to interceptions, including Hart's pick six. The Bruins did have a more successful rushing attack against the Tigers, including Bo Olorunfunmi gaining 82 yards on 13 carries.
MEMPHIS: The Tigers managed to answer scores by UCLA throughout the game. They used a pair of screen passes for scores at a time when the Bruins had thwarted the running game.
UP NEXT
UCLA: After three non-conference games to open the season, the Bruins open Pac-12 play on the road at No. 19 Stanford next Saturday.
MEMPHIS: The Tigers play their third straight home game to open the season, facing Southern Illinois next Saturday. Memphis has played three home games because its Sept. 9 game at Central Florida was canceled due to Hurricane Irma. The American Athletic Conference announced Thursday that the Tigers-Knights game is rescheduled for Sept. 30.

That was a kickass game. Nice win memphis.
I was at the game!!!!!!!!! It was my first ever football game!!!!
Joshua Thomas I was there too
Mine too
I heard people were passing out from the heat and having to be carted off in ambulances, and also the stadium ran out of water and other drinks.
Wow, what a great game!
Excellent game by both teams! GO TIGERS!
My team is Tulane but good win by a team that is in our conference. They played hard and they deserve this win.
I was there. Anthony millet is a beast. Can't wait to see him play on Sunday's in a year or two
It just kills me that Miller's NFL career has been a flop. I didn't think he'd be a Hall Of Famer but I at least thought he'd be good.
Every Memphis game my son and I have attended has been exciting, even the losses. We had a hunch Memphis was gonna tag UCLA, and we weren't disappointed.
amazing highlights keep up the good work. we need more like you
With all the big time scheduling we've been doing I'd like to see us (Georgia) schedule a home and Home with Memphis. I've always enjoyed visiting over there.
lol the ref at 1:11
Go tigers Go
Memphis, shocks UCLA!
Go Ferguson
Go tigers. Let's win the liberty bowl tomorrow. I'll be there
This only proves if you have a good QB and create turnovers you can compete with the rank teams
it helps to have good WRs and running back too....
It was a great all around team effort but the only 2 stand out was the QB and Anthony Miller. You stop #3 and UCLA wins.
Not the only thing you need but ok. This was against UCLA after all.
Not saying you can win. I'm just saying you can compete. Of course you need talent all over the field to be able to win on an consistent basis. Do you think this team could beat Bama Or my LSU tigers
All big teams have bad days but can Memphis stay consistent through out the remaining of the season
Rosen lost this game with that stupid pick for 6
I kept telling everyone. Josh Rosen is overrated.
This was actually the game that convinced me Rosen would be a bust in the NFL.
Go Tigers!
Chosen Rosen....
😅😅😅😅😅😅
More like Choker Rosen....
he was the only reason they were in it,, Memphis is just a better team.
ben ashworth
2 int. And one as a pick 6....
Ok....👌👌👌
Yeah Rosen was a bit overrated. He's a good QB, not a great QB.
Losin Rosin
lol he's on the dolphins now
@@Ic-gq6lv Not anymore. IDK why they traded for him, that was just pointless and stupid. Oh well, they've made a lot of other trades to make up for it.
as a a jets fan an, i dont want that they draft josh rosen #sickspatriick2.0
8 dislikes= 8 sour bruins
Hey my brains not sour!!
@@Ic-gq6lv he said bruins not brains...
UCLA needs a new head coach
nope just got beaten by the better team....they were ranked and their qb was a front runner for all kinds of awards...the better team won
Andre Miller
Whatever.
The game was awesome! I absolutley can not stand listening to that woman talk though. Ugh its atrocious!
I'm not saying women belong in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant fetching their man a beer and a "sammich". Not at all. But they shouldn't be announcing football games.
.
Ucla beat themselves lmao to many mistakes and stupid plays by the qb t
you're right Anthony Miller was just given 185 yards of receptions...and 2 tds....
