Worst set of Bama CBs under Saban’s tenure. Deion Blue and John Fulton… Fulton never started a game after this. Highly recruited and 2 starts in his career. Not that it would matter as Evans was nasty.

Can score 40 points every games with 500+ yards but if you turn the ball over multiple times and cost your team 14-21 points then it won’t matter. As an A&M fan, I've never been so disappointed and proud all at the same time. Every one thought it would be a 52-0 game but we cut it to 24-20. But to come SO close to getting back-to-back wins against Alabama and falling just 2 yards short just hurts. 😭
Every year or so I watch Manziel highlights and think about how good he could’ve been, if he didn’t throw it all away. I remember being in elementary school watching this dude play and thinking he was sooo good, and I couldn’t wait to see what he was gonna do in the NFL. :/
His most recent interview puts it all into perspective. He was quite a special athlete, he just didn't love the game. He already "made it" in his mind, there wasn't anything he was truly striving for anymore.
Manziel would have been nothing without Mike Evans. When you’re a QB who’s slippery but isn’t smart and you like to randomly throw the ball into the middle of the field, it helps to have one of the most legit jump ball receivers of all time.

that team and especially JFF were super exciting to watch. in the NFL every player on the field is a stud. You have to watch film, be a professional and really want it badly. JFF simply didn't put in the effort to succeed at the next level. Thanks for a great two seasons. He's probably one of the top 10 most exciting college players to ever play. I wish him well and thank him for the memories.
You need more than 1 decent receiver as teams can double team a great WR and shut a team down. Bama just had their worst CBs in 15 years on this team. (The safeties were great tho)

They had 7 returning starters from the previous years championship run. They had two all-americans and two first round picks in the nfl draft. Not to mention the depth chart Alabama could call on to step up which had talented players like Landon Collins, Eddie Jackson, Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster… I swear Alabama fans are so spoiled and boy are they gonna get a reality check like never before when Saban finally has enough of their fans whining and expecting a 30 pt. blowout every game, and Saban has voiced his frustration with Alabama fans on several occasions. I mean the majority of Alabama’s alumni return home to their backwoods hometowns, find their soul mate at the first family reunion they attend, and go on to make a dozen or more inbred kids for marrying their first cousin, and they work at the local cat litter factory or become mule breeders with a moonshine still for a little side money or the favored profession is manufacturing meth way out in the woods somewhere and only coming out to go make another kid or to go to Talladega for a weekend. You can showcase his almost superhuman strength [I've always felt Payton was pound-for-pound the strongest human being that's ever played in the NFL], but because you have access to the raw footage, you can also dispel the myth that he wasn't fast at the start of his career and into his prime. He wasn't as fast as Tony Dorsett, but he had _very_ good speed, and he was _lightning_ quick.

Manziel was an excellent college QB.. so crafty.. but having 6'5" Mike Evans go against the worst secondary, especially corners, in the Saban era made this game way closer than it should been. Time after time again Evans would come down with a 50/50 ball to extend plays. I cussed so many times watching this game. Haha. It was definitely a good hard fought game.

It's hard to scheme against back yard ball. When you have a QB that can improvise at that level you can't prepare. That's what made A&M so lethal. It's also why Johnny Football couldn't cut it in the NFL. The talent at that level you can't just back yard ball there.

Alabamas defense was really good that year. They also went on a 35-0 run in the game. You can’t do that with a bad defense
