Hi All, Just a note regarding the microphone cutting in and out a bit in this video. On the day of recording there was a lot of background noise and this effected the noise gate. As I record my videos in batches you may notice this issue in 1 or 2 more videos. Apologies for this, but rest assured it is only a temporary thing :)
Fantastic! Please do more 1k point content! That's all me and my group have time for and I often feel that advice for 2k games is bad for a 1k game! Thank you Mordian!
I think there is some value in playing games out. I always liked the turns 3-5 scraps where a few marines, a wounded tank, or a lone character can make a difference. Playing on when hope seems lost has led to some of my best cinematic moments, and even a few victories! Even just playing an extra turn or two, when you would normally call the game, makes you see and think about your units in non-optimal situations. Trying to eek out a few more points often showcases less used stratagems or rules interactions that could be useful tools in your belt for later games.
Just started guard and ran this list against my friend’s Death Guard, and it was a ton of fun. Close game, lost 61-51, but definitely felt fun. Also felt great learning since the units are all the same and relatively simple for learning! Thank you!
They tend to conclude faster, because you have the same amout of objectives, but every unit is worth twice as much (relatively). So trading goes faster.
Facts. Most of the crusades played at my local TTS are 1000pt lists. That is in my opinion the absolute bare minimum the guard should ever run at, 500pt lists do not allow the flexibility the guard needs to be even a little successful on the table top. Played a few 500pt games with guard and it is a uphill battle though I've squeezed a couple wins they were purely on great dice rolls with me and bad dice rolls from the opponent. They absolutely should have been stomping me but I got damn lucky.
Great vid. I pulled up a 1000 pt list I made a few weeks ago based on the models I already own, and it is almost exactly the same! Only difference is that instead of the 10 man squad of Cadians, I had a heavy weapons squad with 3 mortars to get some indirect fire. That said, I would like to see a 1000 pt list that incorporates the Combat Patrol box, as a lot of people might use that as a starting point.
i had a look into that, this list being 1k, then adding another: 10 Cadians, a Field Ordinance Battery, 5 Scions, and a Rogal Dorn makes 1495 points. You would be using everything apart from the Sentinel from a Combat Patrol, or I could swap the Scions for a Scout Sentinel for exactly 1500. In theory, i could start with a CP box and then add 30 Cadians, Ursula and 3x Leman Russ, then add the rest of the box in later for the 1500. But it sucks to buy shiny new units and then not use them in games. Using Element Games prices its about £10 cheaper to buy the 1k list all separately vs getting a combat patrol and then just using the Command Squad and 20 Cadians... but then you get the Sentinel and Field Ordinance for that extra £10. The other option would be to drop a Russ from the 1k and take the FOB and Scout Sentinel for the same points instead but you'd lose the main strength of having 3 tanks in this list
It’s his noise gate. Cuts out a little prematurely and cuts in slightly late. Usually people have this if there’s a lot of background noise where they record audio.
easy, 1500, take this list and add one to two more infantry squads (or catachans or kriegers or scions), a piece of artillery, and top out with utility units (callidus assassin anyone?) and flavour units. OR infantry units + rogal dorn + utility units.
I am new to 40k and chose guard as my faction of choice. This video and your others have helped me so much. Just had my first game and victory thanks to you. Keep up the good work. Thank you! I would love to see more stuff for new players, perhaps a video on helpful accessories to add to the game llke player aids, token, etc....
I was at this size for a bit. I was gifted a shoebox of random infantry. After paints and supplies I bought a box of basilisk. That was me until I had spare money to get more models that I thought were cool. 😊
As a confused beginner who is still new to the guard and 40k in general, I thank you! I am glad to see I dont reaaaally need artillery in 1000pt. So far I have about 30 infantry, one cadian command squad and 2 regal dorn tank. Its comforting to think I just need to get more infantry
I have thought about it and I would like to try it one day! That would put me at 35 infantry and I feel its not enough though... Perhaps when I can finally afford leman russes I will be able to fit them in, definitely want to get a bunch of these! Thanks for the advice though :)
So far I am thinking 2x regal dorn battle tank, x4 cadian shock troops, x1 cadian command squad, x1 Ursula creed, and with the remaining 50pt I thought a cadian castellan would fit nicely
i think my list is Lord Solar with 20 man infty + command, 1- 20 man unit of cadians, 1 russ ext. 1 dorn, 1 basilisk. i've done quite well with this list, but think i'd like to give your list a try as well! thanks mate!
Great video, and super useful to a beginner like me. Could you please include a graphic/spread of the entire list for reference near the very end of the video? That would be even more helpful. o7
I had a good chuckle with the skew list comment at the start cause a list I took to a 1K RTT was an Enginseer, Tank Commander w/GS, Basilisk, LR Demo, LR Eradi, LR Extermi, and a Scout Sentinel 1K points right on the nose
Leave the artillery at home? The nerve! We just watched you build a mass infantry/artillery list yesterday.. No sir! I will not leave my artillery at home! I am bringing that indirect fire!
am i crazy or was the audio dropping a syllable every 5-10 seconds? I rewatched several portions and they were in the same spots so i don't think it's my headphones...
I’ve been running 60 Kriegers w/ marshals, a creed mortar cmd blob, and 2 field ordinances batteries. At 1000 points I’m finding people have a hard time pushing Kriegers off of objectives while the rest of their army is being hit by indirect. By the time the Krieg blobs die and come back via reinforcements it doesn’t really matter that they lost the marshal since the enemy they were fighting has lost quite of bit of their units by then. It does struggle with secondaries though. Thought about going fixed but unsure what to pick.
Just a point on the Leman Russ choice. The current Leman Russ battle tank kit is incredibly easy to build in such a way to enable you to use all four turret weapons. So for beginners, or anyone really it's a great idea to magnetise the two turret halves so you can play with all of the options available and also keep your model edition proof.
I have question for you. Do you run your Mordian Guard with the Cadian ruleset or do you prefer a more independent army list to represent your Iron guard?
i love 1000pt games. new or experienced, 1000 points is great for learning the game, trying a new unit to your collection [outside of titanic], tactic, or hell, even focusing on one mechanic for whatever reason.
I'm not fully sold on the sentinel spam, I would replace one triplet of AS with a tank or artillery piece. I think of them as force multipliers and efficient in defence but not damage intensive enough to be spammable
@dxpsumma383 never played, still painting and buying my models, so defo take it on board. My thoughts were with aim it's hitting on 2s, with the scout sentinel re roll 1's. Then there's the armoured ability. But ultimately, my thought was that I could use reinforce if they get wiped out. I have a 2000 point list with out Armoured Sentinels, I just thought it might be good for 1000. Cheers again for the comment, I need all the advise I can get 😀
My 1000 first point list I used when I was at that point and was super new was 1 commissar 9Armor sentinels, 5 scout sentinels and 1 cyclops deposition unit.
Id definitely say theres an option without tanks. Sentinals, rough riders, and field batteries are a pretty decent replacement imo (10 man rough riders can be especially brutal). Not as beefy, but at least as hard hitting I have a tankless guard army, it caaaan work at 1k
Love the video, I was just wondering if you have any ideas for people that got the last year Christmas box, I have no idea to which direction to go for a 1000 points list.
The only thing i would change for this list is probably the command blob. Take a basic infantry squad and a platoon command squad so that you can have 2 mortors to benefit from easy free fields of fire courtesy of creed.
In my friend group we are all still building up our armies and so 1k is currently what we play all our games at. Some of us have well over 2k in models already, but we are trying to paint most or all as well, just cause it's more enjoyable to play if nothing is just plastic (anecdotally i can tell you that in every game I've played, the less painted army has lost btw.) That being said, we do have sort of a gentleman's agreement as to not skew our lists too heavily unless it's for fun and we talked about it beforehand. Our games have therefor always lasted quite a few turns (also because we are still learning of course). Next game I'll bring a stormsurge so that'll be fun at 1k, but my opponent already knows (in fact they gifted it to me). I've also never run crisis at 1k so far
Btw some mathhammer for mortars (couldn't fit it into stream chat before) I do consider the basilisk the best artillery type, but why I like mortar teams is they are splashable and they do good damage versus light targets while not losing too much vs heavy targets This is entirely unsupported (but assuming they are stationary.) For mortars vs basilisk. Damage factor for the mortars is scaled 2.25 for the cost difference between mortars and basilisk. Mortar team vs 5 intercessors: 1.25 wounds post save. Scaled: 2.815 Basilisk: Vs same 2.8888 (do note, vs any 1 wound power armored unit of t3-4 the basilisk will be doing half damage due to wound overflow) Mortars vs 5 Terminators: .5625 Scaled: 1.266 Basilisk: 1.94 this is where the basilisk shines most, vs super heavy infantry, terminators and especially custodes. (outside their ability obviously) Vs rhino/chimera type vehicle (t9, 3+ save) Mortar team: .778, scaled: 1.75 Basilisk: 1.805. Again the basilisk is ahead slightly. This will continue. I don't recommend mortars as a basilisk replacement but a supplement, using them to shoot at the things like swarms, hordes, and anything else beneath using the main gun of your 135 point heavy artillery on.
I like the list. As someone who’s been interested in Guard since I first discovered the hobby but still haven’t committed, I was just thinking about looking into a starter 1K list. There’s only 2 questions I have to ask: 1. Why not replace the Tank Commander and Creed with Lord Solar? He gives 3 Orders and they can go to both Infantry and Vehicles, right? You could give the Command Squad the Grand Strategist Enhancement that they can send out to other Infantry, couldn’t you? 2. Would it have been a bit more financially beneficial to build the 1K List off the Combat Patrol? It seems like a great place to build off based on the list you mentioned, just that you didn’t use the Sentinel or the Field Ordinance. I was curious the reasoning, and if it wasn’t worth considering what you mentioned about dipping into too much. Regardless these small curious questions, your video is a big help and highly appreciate it.
Id love to see mordian talk about the attilan rough riders at some point. Im curious if theyre any good. They seem to have fairly intimidating melee vs just about everything but are quite fragile...
My 1K list is this: - Guilliman - Cadian Command Squad - Commissar - 10 man Cadian Shock Troops x2 - Field Ordnance Battery - Heavy Weapon Squad - Kasrkin - Scout Sentinel x2 Guilliman is a monster in melee and no slouch at range, plus he will likely draw a lot of enemy attention away from the sentinels. The sentinels will buff the entire army, including the Ignores Cover heavy weapon Sqaud and field ordnance. Some okay infantry for screening, and Kasrkin for a potentially free CP every turn, scouts, & mortal wounds. I feel like it’s a fairly balanced little list and totally fine for casual. Though if I saw a wall of tanks or world eaters I’d probably skip the match.
Hey Mordian, That is all well and good but how do I paint the 50-60 odd infantry and tanks? Do I get them all up to "Battle Ready"? What system really works to get playing instead of painting for months on end?
Hmmm I was considering lasgun kasrkins with Creed for 1k because of the tendency of using more infantry by my opponents. Also, maybe it could be worth considering including one Rogal Dorn in the 1k list?
Russ's aren't terribly cheap, do yourself a huge favor, magnetize your tanks. It's a few wxtra dollars for magnets and super glue, but you can change up war gear based on rules changes/edition changes.
If this video isn't "Go buy the IG Battleforce box with the two Rogal Dorns, and the IG Combat Patrol," which gets you just over 1000pts ah you can customize a bit, I'm gonna be real sad. IG easily has the best, most cheesy 1000pt box set list out there, with basically nobody else being able to remotely deal with double Dorn at that point level 😆
I don't care whether they are terrible, I use 2 squads of Atillan Rough Riders, squad of Kasrkins with Ursula Creed! I hope you can guess the rest...........................I lose but I have a fucking fantastic time doing it!
What do you mean that a lord solar command squad of catachans with 2 earthshaker carriages and 2 dorns at 1k isnt the optimal choice??? Lol On a real note, Mordian your list is a solid beginner list... dont listen to me viewers, my list is skewed badly
MadLarkin, that is a glorious armor skewed list. For an Infantry list a brutal list is: Creed, 2 DKM, Platoon Command Sqaud, 3 DKoK 20mans, 1 Infantry Squad, and 2 Earthshakers....1k on the button. Drown them in bodies! Target their infantry and hold the line
This was a 1100 list maybe at the start of 10th. Been a few balance changes since. Use wahapedia or update the app probably is what I am guessing is the problem.
@@notthebest928 Ah, apparently the Field Manual on Warhammer Community isn't the most up to date version for some reason. That's where I got my numbers from. Thanks.

Brother… really appreciate the list but any chance you sticky the list in writing. Just hard to follow with the choppy audio as a beginner. ❤️

Can't agree more with this. Would be cool to see narritive flavors for the Likes of Catachan and Tempestus. Great stuff
I think you have an overly aggressive noise gate or you've got a cable going out, Mordian. Your voiceover kept cutting out randomly.
I think there is some value in playing games out. I always liked the turns 3-5 scraps where a few marines, a wounded tank, or a lone character can make a difference. Playing on when hope seems lost has led to some of my best cinematic moments, and even a few victories!

Didn't like the radio effect in the last video but this video I think its hit the sweet spot here good job mordian!
Constructive criticism is always good

I used this list last night against a spacemarine army. All of those multimelta, plasma, and melta guns really helped. Victory for the guard!
Thanks for 1K content. Please continue. They are not only for beginners but also for people who don’t have more time than an evening.
Hey Mordian this vid was very helpful in my quest to serve the Emperor outside of the Astartes! Thanks a lot and keep up the incredible content!

I asked this yesterday on your stream. Found this video today

Hey, man. Dunno if it's your mic, your cord, or your settings, but the signal has been repeatedly cutting out the last few videos.
Is it just me, or is the Audio cutting out at the start of sentences quite a bit in this video?
I have question for you. Do you run your Mordian Guard with the Cadian ruleset or do you prefer a more independent army list to represent your Iron guard?
Maybe do a 1000p list based around the Combat Patrol contents?

Next game I'll bring a stormsurge so that'll be fun at 1k, but my opponent already knows (in fact they gifted it to me). I've also never run crisis at 1k so far
Btw some mathhammer for mortars (couldn't fit it into stream chat before)
I do consider the basilisk the best artillery type, but why I like mortar teams is they are splashable and they do good damage versus light targets while not losing too much vs heavy targets
This is entirely unsupported (but assuming they are stationary.) For mortars vs basilisk. Damage factor for the mortars is scaled 2.25 for the cost difference between mortars and basilisk.
Mortar team vs 5 intercessors: 1.25 wounds post save. Scaled: 2.815
Basilisk: Vs same 2.8888
(do note, vs any 1 wound power armored unit of t3-4 the basilisk will be doing half damage due to wound overflow)
Mortars vs 5 Terminators: .5625 Scaled: 1.266
Basilisk: 1.94
this is where the basilisk shines most, vs super heavy infantry, terminators and especially custodes. (outside their ability obviously)
Vs rhino/chimera type vehicle (t9, 3+ save)
Mortar team: .778, scaled: 1.75
Basilisk: 1.805.
Again the basilisk is ahead slightly. This will continue.
I don't recommend mortars as a basilisk replacement but a supplement, using them to shoot at the things like swarms, hordes, and anything else beneath using the main gun of your 135 point heavy artillery on.
🤔 I was trying to make a light brigade/ no tanks for my first 1000 relying on sentinels, and RAPIER LASER DESTROYERS for anti-tank.
This was real great! Any chance of a Catachan one in the future?
I like the list. As someone who’s been interested in Guard since I first discovered the hobby but still haven’t committed, I was just thinking about looking into a starter 1K list. There’s only 2 questions I have to ask:

Greetings from
The Netherlands
First rank fire 2nd rank fire to an exterminator auto cannon is deadly 12 big shots is my favorite
I suppose the only thing I would add is magnetize your tanks. Its the most reliable edition proofing.
My 1K list is this:
- Guilliman
- Cadian Command Squad
- Commissar
- 10 man Cadian Shock Troops x2
- Field Ordnance Battery
- Heavy Weapon Squad
- Kasrkin
- Scout Sentinel x2
Guilliman is a monster in melee and no slouch at range, plus he will likely draw a lot of enemy attention away from the sentinels.
Guilliman? In a guard list?
Maybe it's just my phone, but the audio keeps cutting out every few minutes for a word or two. Just a heads up
Lord General! Orders from Terra say to deploy your force’s to the front immediately!
I would love to see this list in action in a friendly match :)
Awesome. Am about to put together a 1k list. Thanks
Im so going to use this if the Kreig release is true
Is there a list of all this somewhere?
I like it. Could I take less characters and focus more on numbers??? Maybe just the tank commander and a castellan or a tank commander and straken
Audio keeps stopping a few times. Your microphone might have an issue
Hey Mordian, That is all well and good but how do I paint the 50-60 odd infantry and tanks? Do I get them all up to "Battle Ready"? What system really works to get playing instead of painting for months on end?
Is it just me or is the sound on this video cutting out?
4:25 is when the list starts
Why not attach the command squad and character to a 20 person squad?
Hmmm I was considering lasgun kasrkins with Creed for 1k because of the tendency of using more infantry by my opponents. Also, maybe it could be worth considering including one Rogal Dorn in the 1k list?
i wonder what a 100% pure astra militarum army would look like. like no tanks/arty/mech, nothing. pure raw rifle power.
curious what box sets you'd recommend buying. Start collecting, army combat patrols?
I sometimes like 1ks because a lot of things work in 1k that don't in 2k
im just starting out and I assume because I know the battle tank more than the other tank I should stick with the battle tank?
Russ's aren't terribly cheap, do yourself a huge favor, magnetize your tanks. It's a few wxtra dollars for magnets and super glue, but you can change up war gear based on rules changes/edition changes.
If the objective of the infantry is to live as long as possible, would it be worth it to use DKoK infantry instead?
Hi there, could you fit a rogal dorn into a 1000 list?
I know its not meta but I love the chainsword/bolt pistol on my sergeants totally rule of cool 😎
Is it fine to use kriegsmen instead of cadians?
What about like 30 ogryn?
Why not a Baneblade and 2 Rogal Dorns? :p
Is it just me or is the audio really choppy?
yeah it kinda is. hard to listen sometimes. some word are just.. gone
It not the first time, and is getting worse and worse unfortunately.
My current 1k list I'm building towards I feel as though it's a balanced list thst will build well into 2k.

I don't care whether they are terrible, I use 2 squads of Atillan Rough Riders, squad of Kasrkins with Ursula Creed! I hope you can guess the rest...........................I lose but I have a fucking fantastic time doing it!
7:05 ???
What do you mean that a lord solar command squad of catachans with 2 earthshaker carriages and 2 dorns at 1k isnt the optimal choice??? Lol
On a real note, Mordian your list is a solid beginner list... dont listen to me viewers, my list is skewed badly
Could a ratcheting trigger be incorporated? My brain doesn't work that way? Don't why this comment is here sorry
A lot of random words cutting out these days, on the videos and on live.
My 1K list is a Tank Commander with Grand Strategist and 3 Dorns.
Thank you sir. Unfortunately, I don't know your name. This is what I need to start my journey.
can someone post the list he says. idk why people don't put it in the description as well :(

Thanks.
Great guide but your voice kept cutting out!
The best 1k list is 2 baneblades.
1000 point games are so much faster, dont run out of time.
sound is trash))recommendations are good)) tnx for video)))
🫡 I do my part 🫡
Fix your audio, you are clipping in and out horribly
Lol named characters at 1000 is cancer, ty bye.
Named characters should be banned at 1000, restricted to 2 at 2000 and 3 at 3000
