I've been a mechanic for many many years, now I own an excavating company.. over the years I've met all types of tech/mechanics, unfortunately most techs have very limited skills these days....but you sir are damn good..
Good day sir... I am new to the world of diesel so I am constantly looking for more and more data on my 2011 6.7.. This by far was the best I have seen on explaining the turbo part of the engine. I do notice that when I am sitting idle I hear through the exhaust a woosh sound then like a small whistle behind it. From what I have seen in other places this was explained to be the veins opening and closing. Does that sound correct? Also the back pressure you talked about, is this the reason I see so many recommend getting a way to monitor EGT when pulling a load? Thanks again.
Sorry for late reply! But yes it is normal to hear change in sound pitch with engine. Since the 6.0 uses almost the same turbo (Function that is!) I explain turbo operation in that series. You can buy a pyrometer from various vendors to install a EGT gauge but it its a 6.7L, you can monitor EGT 11 on a tuner or generic scan tool you can buy at a local auto parts store
Your video was excellent👏. I have a problem with my 6.7 system. Is there a way I can get in touch with you to ask some short questions on troubleshooting. Thanks.
My 2014 6.7 makes a noise coming from turbo when I let off the throttle sounds like a bearing, as soon as I touch the throttle it quits let it ff again it makes a noise like bearing what are your thoughts
Actually I have a 13 with a similar complaint . Sounds like an exhaust leak but need to confirm. Unfortunately to check turbine whew for excessive play need to remove upper intake and lower intake off. But I did check the outlet tube to see if it spits engine oil out of the outlet tube towards the charge air cooler, ran disconnected and no oil. So it’s most likely an exhaust leak. I let you know. I get the truck back on Wednesday of this week
I have what seems to be the same issue. Replaced blown turbo on my truck with a remanufactured unit direct from ford and have a siren type noise only at light throttle. Seems to have a small amount of lag but if I give even 25% throttle it has all the power in the world. Im at my wits end with it.
Hey Mr. Tony, took a couple of ur ADS classes in West Memphis on 6.0 and 6.4 years ago lol great classes and instructor. I know the vanes and act. Are doing the magic but we have a customer that insist that his engine brake is not working as aggressively. Do u have a video on exhaust brake on 16 6.7 powerstroke. Or any info that we might can talk about. No codes truck came to us with 80,000 miles and sticking vanes. Customer stated he had ford replace turbo at 40,000 miles in Florida. Also sticking vanes. Would love to talk just a min if u could. Great video by the way thank u

Nothing will send you down a rabbit hole faster than gasoline in the diesel lol. Or dodge battery terminals🤣
