I have a serve like this as well. I don't spin it when I toss the ball. Some people have said it might be illegal due the the upward motion requirement. Personally, I don't think it's illegal. How could the ball be hit below the waist, with the paddle below the wrist, and not travel forward? Like, someone please demonstrate how that's possible.
Frame-by-frame review shows his paddle is moving from high to low until he makes contact with the ball on many of these. The required upward motion only happens after contact with the ball. It does create a great hop that he might achieve with a drop serve. My drop serve is similar, but I don't get anywhere near that much hop.
Yes and it's actually very fun to be not that good at. As you can see this mediocre player is having fun with spin serves that only really work at the average level or worse.
Yes its like picking up ping pong but with tennis positioning. I will say paddles make a huge difference though i started with wooden paddle and went to like a basic composite paddle (Vinsguir amazon) speed and spin increased super hard.
Honestly, what's the point of this? If you could master a serve that's not returnable 100% of the time would you have any fun? What's the point of playing? And by the way, I think you're imparting spin on the ball as you toss it up, which is now illegal in 2023.
@@dinksonme834it wasn’t legal then either. As your paddle makes contact with the ball, the motion is downwards. Is not on an upswing motion at the time of contact, literally the first part of the serve rule. A couple of them were hit on the upswing, but most were not.
@@dinksonme834 have you ever hit a back spin slice? The motion is downwards and the ball still goes up. I slowed down the speed and in about half, the paddle is still going downwards after it hits the ball.
That. Is. Crazy.
You bet!
It’s also illegal serve.
Insane amounts of spin
Thx
Jeez! I wouldn't want to play against that!
it is deadly XD
Not bad! Pretty good spin serve you got there. I really like the one that hits close to the center line
thanks! I should go around that area more often
A lot of jump on those balls... would be hard to get back
sideways jump!
Love this
Loving sport
What paddle is that?
it's called Carbon (CRBN)

I have a similar server. I roll it more out of my hand instead of a finger spin. When you get a short wide and some wind, you will get aces.
Yup exactly! Love throwing opponents off and getting a couple quick points due to a surprise serve
Your paddle wraps around the body at basically the same level, so doesn't look like it meets the requirement of moving upwards at contact... 🤷♂
@@LoneOakWoodworks how does ball travel so high if not moving upward?
@@dinksonme834 Angle of the paddle face. You can hit a backspin shot that goes high with the paddle moving in a sharp downward plane, right?

Okay interesting! I will take a slow motion look, I didn't do this actually to try to see.
I did this the first time I ever played and people freaked out that it was illegal. I still don’t think it’s illegal.

@@IlIlIlIlIlIlIIlIlIlIlIlIlIIIII Lol! post vid you serving bud.
No, it's just like picking up any other object that you drop like your wallet, a pen, etc.
My serve looks like this
we could be serve buddies :O

Whaaaaaaaaa..?????
ikr
You have to drop the ball from below your waist I think to make it legal
Yep nowadays but only in ppa. Mlp you can still throw ball up like dekel bar does
Illegal for 2023
Why is it illegal?
Contact with the ball must be in an upward motion. You are serving with contact on the downswing. Illegal
Your channel name lol
It's illegal because he, for one, spins the ball before hitting it and second, tosses the ball up instead of dropping it.
Makes sense. This clip was 20 months ago
Here in 2024; is this legal or illegal?
@wbakes Not in 2024 no
It's not legal. You're not allowed to toss the ball upwards. You may only drop it.... and without spin.
not legal due to spinning it with the toss.
Super illegal but love it! You can toss the ball up, up can prespin the ball before it touches the paddle.
Not legal. Have to drop the ball. Can't put it up in the air.

@alexcereuceta5907 the ball clears the net by like 3 ft - how would a downward swing on contact make the ball go 6 ft in the air?

Well if you play competition you want to actually serve in a way that you make directly a point
Pansy tennis…
I don’t think your aloud to serve with your paddle that high. It has to be below the waist
I think contact was below the waist mcguffin starts his paddle high before contacting the ball on his serve
