It is a crime against humanity that this game hasn't been remastered or given a sequel
No, it's a crime against humanity when BL is on EA's hands instead of Double Fine's.
This game is awesome, but I was disapointed that it lacks a "boss mode" where you can play full songs with the guitar, guitar battles basically. If they make a sequel whith that characteristics this will be one of the best games ever.
Prefer a Prequel as Riggnarok fighting through the Black Tear Rebellion.
@@doubledamn2599 Justo add guitar battles, that's al I ask
xXSilentAgent47Xx very sad
How could anyone forget Jack Black: The Game??
The haterz can
+Groisu Yeah those were pretty annoying
bigevilworldwide1 ohhh look out everyone we got a badass over here calling it like it is.
@bigevilworldwide1 generally I would agree with you, but I saw Jumanji and Jack Black is a teenage girl in that movie. And I didn't realize he was a good actor until that movie.
And here you are, supporting Jack Black before JablinskiGames is even a thing. You. Are. Legend.
I love this game so much. I wish there were classic top down RTS controls for the strategy parts tho.
Rantoni pepperoni
RANTONI
The game not having typical RTS controls was literaly the best part of it, I personally hate RTS games, and so I had a HUGE amount of fun with this game, BECAUSE of the diffirent controls, and I really wish that more action games did RTS stuff like Brutal legends did.
@@fenison4430 Look into the kingdom under fire games. They're old original xbox games that were a blend of dynasty warriors hack and slash with RTS. They're on steam and some fans have made HD texture mods to give them a face lift.

If they'll ever make an anime like Brutal Legend, it could be the only anime i would like (don't misunderstand me, i don't hate animes but i find them a bit repetitive)
Why do people put anime in everything now ?
@@nope8827 most movies are repetitive . super hero movies the main thing now. also generic scary movies all the same. yet MHA is obviously different than naruto
*raises axe in the air* AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
Tim Schaefer actually was really annoyed at EA for almost exclusively advertising the hack and slash when they designed it with the RTS parts to be the main draw. Basically they drew an audience that were expecting one thing then sold something different, and double fine was pissed about it, too.
Jesus Christ.
What was EA expecting?
Like, sometimes I wonder if they deliberately sabotage themselves just to spite gamers the world over.
EA needs to go away........or get eaten by another company, probably Microsoft.
That'd be hilarious/fitting.
that would bring me nothing but joy seeing as they killed one of my favourite game studios
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandemic_Studios
I remember hearing somewhere that Brutal Legend was the game that made Tim never want to work with a publisher again due to how much of a mess it was.
I understand why EA did it. The hack and slash bits were the fun part. The RTS was pretty meh. By focusing on the hack and slash, they got more people to buy it, even if they then became disappointed, but if they focused on the RTS in the marketing people would just not buy this at all. TBH it's on Tim on not realizing the RTS just wasn't fun and everyone wanted a Zeldalike in this aesthetic instead.
Till this day Brutal legend it's still one of my favorite games, It's just sooo funny and cool, a total forgotten gem.

I remember getting this game a long time ago back on my Xbox 360, I overplayed the campaign and loved the story! Yeah the mechanics were a little rough but an interesting story arch in it! I hope they make a sequel for it!
I give the game a 6 out of 10 and yet, it's in my top 3 games of ALL TIME!
I wish they had gone full action adventure combat hack and slasher and ditched the RTS stuff. It was okay. I get what they were going for. I love the aesthetic and design of all the factions and their units. But dang was it clunky on a console controller. But I spent like 50 hours playing it and loved it, I spent maybe half that play time just hunting up all the dragon statues that unlock new soundtrack because driving around in the Deuce and listening to the music was amazing. Plus I just loved like that it was like I had stepped into a heavy metal album cover. I have been thinking about it again lately (thus why I am here right now). I think I might play it again!
Brutal Legend was my jam. The Kiss Amazon Army was straight out of some 80s cover art

I wonder if Buns opened the floodgates for a remaster. I mean, it happened to The Last Remnant and Resonance of Fate.
Let this happen PLS
WAIT WHEN WAS RESONANCE OF FATE REMASTERED!?
I wouldn't rule it out. Only a couple of days after she did her battle for bikini bottom video it was announced that the Nickelodeon games are being released on modern consoles .
I'd be down
Oh my god, i saw this and went to steam, and it was there ressonance of fate, but not as the official name "an Anime game" but still awesome
i wasnt even aware the rts was that big of a deal, i beat the game three times barley using it. one of my fav games of all time, it's so fun
I'm guilty of speedrunning through the stage battles by leaving the troops behing and charging ahead with the beasts from Call of the Wild
I couldn't beat one particular rts encounter and after losing ten times I quit playing. So in a way I hated those and preferred the parts where I win
@Crab in A Top Hat rts games are usually my absolute favorite. Had I actually been told about it more by the game besides the initial I would have absolutely used it but I jusy kept forgetting it existed. But I'm playing it again on game pass and been using it more and it's genuinely been my best play through
I remember how I learned about this game. My friend hound it in an unlabeled case on the ground and the game ended up working. Eventually I got my own copy and I’ve loved it ever since.

I actually played most of brutal legend. I stopped since I sucked at the strategy part, but the metal aspects woven in the story, as well as the hack and slash combat was very enjoyable enough
I had a hard time playing the stage battle against o'girl that turned evil, and legit quit playing the game cause I lost like 5 times in a day. I came back like a couple months later, beat it, and finished the game.
Love this game. The creativity of the world they built, and the mythology behind it is so well thought out.
Honestly, I remember playing this game when I was in high school, and as a person whose done some stage tech (and loved doing it) this game reminded me a lot of how live shows worked, just u being one guy in charge of a huge production that, honestly, feels a lot like ure going up against a giant army of emos and headbangers who want to kill u
I guess you could say this game was pretty METAL

BRING BRUTAL LEGEND TO PS4!!!!
There's no real reason it couldn't be, they ported it to steam, just uprez it a bit and throw it on PS4 and Xbox One, Hell it'd probably run well on Switch.
MusicRed the legend lives!!
It's already BC on Xbox One. Way too many ports this gen. Would rather have a sequel.
Thats why ps4 is garbage
ProCareBear 69 yes ps4 is garbage because it didn’t get a port of a game. Any other idiotic ideas?
Interestingly enough this is actually Double Fine's most owned game on Steam... but that's honestly only because it was given away for free once or twice.
The game has its flaws, but the RTS was part of the story. Riggs is not the front man. He is the roadie. If you focus on him fighting all the time then it is a whole different story. It is his job to let the front men/women shine. There could be some polish on the mechanics, but they are integral to the story.
I bought it when it first came out and I bought it again on Steam. Great game with a great story and great music. I can only wish for a sequel.
They should've just made the RTS battles crazy-ass cutscenes instead.
@@fyr3st0rm65 You can't be serious. If you want to watch a story go on Netflix. Games like this are about experiencing the events of a story, not just watching them unfold. how does that make you feel immersed or involved? Cutscenes work to establish lore and create dialogue/exposition scenes that you wouldn't be able to fully process if you were still running around as your character in the game world, this is where storytelling in games like fallout and elder scrolls can fall short because if you're not paying attention or you just want to move on with the game that you can either disregard or flat out miss important story information or a bit of lore that doesn't make sense if you walked away before the encounter is finished. Brutal legend understood where to have a cutscene and where to have gameplay. The cutscenes established the characters, important story points, and lore behind the world and mechanics of the game.
Even though that's true, it's poorly executed and pretty bad form to mix genres like this. it stretches the game and opens you up to having two mechanics but neither polished rather then just one polished mechanic.
Imagine a game like Dark Souls for example, or even God of War, where hack and slash is what it's all about, and then suddenly you need to do some RTS elements, waht if you dont like RTS games, what if you came for the fighting.
I get the idea behind it and commend them for trying it and pushing the envelope but it is poorly executed.
Shame because aesthetically the game is amazing and I really enjoyed it until it got bogged down in the RTS elements, and thats come from an RTS player. I came for the hack and slash.
Don't want a sequel if he ain't the "Front Man" RTS stuff was a total Bait and Switch from the Demo and Trailers

First video I watched and almost immediately subscribed.
Your voice is positively enchanting.
Love this game. I don't even dislike the RTS sections, it's the lack of fast travel that almost kills it for me
Feel like this game came into my life at the right time (14, getting into metal and one of the first 360 games I owned) and this game comes to mind every few years because of it's visual style and comedy, now I notice that the gameplay isn't anything special, deep or memorable but during my recent play through I remember just driving around and taking in the visuals, taking photos for references and even made a painting of one of the skulls in the sky late into the game just because I loved how it looked at the time.
Loved Brutal Legend Bought It On Release Day.....kinda wished it was more like the God Of War riff they were kinda selling it to be. But ultimately grew to respect it for what it was/trying to do. Wish the series could have continued in some form make it a cartoon heck make it a comic book I would buy them.
I also got Eddie's shirt when I bought the game, wish I still had it sadly it got bleached in the wash.
Dude that game was worth the money for the soundtrack alone, haha. It was totally aimed at old school metalheads, and I was super glad to have a game that catered to the fandom. I really hope they make the second one.
I remember playing the Demo for this game many many MANY times. I couldn’t get enough of the first hour of the game

As usual, the best thing about this video is your sense of humor! You've been gone too long.
I'm replaying brutal legend right now
I loved this game so much when it came out, even with the strange mechanics and everything. The cast is amazing and delivers every line flawlessly, jokes and references are perfect, story badass, and overall gameplay feel is great and only awkward during the stage battles. All and all solid title. Started replaying it recently cause XBone and I’m so glad I did. It still stands as one of my all time favourite games.
Never played this game but it looks super fucking fun
it is
It is fun, it takes a bit to get used to the controls when it comes to the strategy part but once you get the hang of it its a blast
Drill Knight76 Honestly, I'm considering getting it for Lemmy alone. I'm also a huge fan of hack and slashers
Honestly, after the first boss, there isn't much hack and slash at all. However, it is a unique RTS experience because you can actively move your hero around and fight enemies using the hack and slash mechanics and literal face-melting guitar riffs. It's got voice work from Ozzy, Lita Ford, and Rob Halford as well, and the 100+ song soundtrack is a delicious buffet of the best from all genres of metal.
Also the entire world itself is inspired by real heavy metal album covers
I loved this game to bloody pieces, it’s the main reason I’m now a big fan of heavy metal and other older songs.

I loved this game it is definitely a love letter to all things metal with legendary cameos,I liked the rts fights a lot but I remember being totally surprised the first time doing them because I too thought it was a hack and slash title. The genre inspired areas of the game were incredible and the soundtrack was amazing too. Excellent game imo
I was just talk about this game a while ago. I absolutely loved the game play. The big boss battles were one of my favorite things about the game. I want a sequel for this sooooo bad. It deserves it. Also, my friend who hates Jack Black watched me play this game as if it was a movie, and he found it to be amazing. Haha
This is one of my favorite games ever. And I agree with you on all your points
I remember playing this game when it came out to almost 100%.
I´m still salty for not being able to play the DLC.
It´s a super fun game that i would recommend to anyone with a slight interest and knowledge of Metal and rock.
The DLC is only costumes and weapons, nothing special.
Oh i thought it had extra missions and stuff, well that lifts a burden from my soul, thanks
Oh wait I forgot the extra Multiplayer maps in one of them.
Yes. Plus they play Superbeast during the final stage battle.
I almost 100% it, too... that last RTS fight on the hardest difficulty just couldn't be reasonably done (which is BS since I wouldn't have even played on the hardest difficulty if I knew there was any RTS BS).
Personally speaking, Jack Black is an amazing actor. I recently had the pleasure of re-watching "School of Rock". I think it's my favorite movie that stars Jack Black. That, and the recently released "The House With A Clock In It's Walls". I respect both movies, regardless of the complete "tone shift" of Jack's acting career (from "wild and I can do whatever the hell I want" to "Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Whater my manager says.")
I adored Brutal Legend. I really hope they do make a sequel!!! This game was the fucking best
just completed this game again and i keep loving it.
I remember when I was younger, I always just thought this looked like World of Warcraft feat. Jack Black
I remember being really excited for this and loving the start.....but I just couldn't get into the strategy side of it. It felt like it should have stayed as the hack n' slash gameplay
Yeah, you pretty much summed up all of my issues with the game. Aesthetically it's great and passionate, mechanically it's messy and unfocused. The game would have benefited from either focusing squarely on being a Devil May Cry/God of War like, or doubling down and making a pure RTS. It's honestly a bit sad to see a game created from such passion mostly forgotten today, but I do hope that it does see a sequel with the flaws ironed out in the future.
As for favourite Jack Black movie, it's honestly a toss up between Tropic Thunder, Kung-Fu Panda, Pick of Destiny, and King Kong. The great thing about the guy is that no matter what role he's playing, you can tell that he's giving it his all and having a ball all the while.
you see him in jamaji? also i thought the rts and open world stuff worked well together cause i thought it was all fun XD
I haven't seen the new _Jumanji_ yet, but having him play a teenage girl character sounds and looks hilarious from the trailers. I just hope that it's as good as the Robin Williams _Jumanji,_ as that was a childhood favourite of mine.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the RTS/open world gameplay too. There's merit in that concept for sure, but I'm simply not a fan of the genre (I prefer TBS such as XCOM and Fire Emblem). That said I can definitely see the potential for refinement 😏.
The new Jumanji is really, really bad. It's a completely mediocre movie.
There's one big flaw in Brutal Legend that this movie doesn't mention, and it's the pacing. That first area is massive and has loads of content and story impact, but the rest of the areas are really small and empty with barely any story progression. You can really feel that they put all of their good ideas into the first zone and then realised they were going to have to rush the rest of the game. The story itself just sort of rushes to a head all of a sudden and wraps up without any real emotional catharsis, again probably because they ran out of time and money. Mismanagement appears to be a huge problem at Double Fine and that's why they're constantly running out of money for projects, whether it's an EA-funded action game or a crowdfunded indie point-n-click.
@@peacemaster8117 well i for one loved the new jumanjo movie. Its a new era for the series and kinda keeps in line with what the magic board games can do. Of u wanted the actual sequal to jumanji u would watch zathura. But lets be honest thebog jumanji wasnt really as hyoed as everyone says. And that comes from someone who watched it.
That said if u think the second half of the gake for brutal legend feels rushed, i guess? But it never felt rushed to me. The story felt well paced in my eyes and the world in which u explore in both parts feels great. I never foumd thebstory to be lacking in payoff in any way.
This is my favorite game of all time
I got it when I was in middle school and it inspired me to pick up a guitar and become a musician.

HA! nintendo allowing this (and i own a switch and love the shit out of it) would be a longshot. i know it has wolfenstein (with potato graphics mind you) but i don't think it would sell at all for the switch. the majority of young kids that populate the switch would just want a game about mumble rap vs. metal

@@hughneutron5303 but doom on switch actually looks ok.
I remember Brutal Legend but I never played the game. I remember seeing commercials for the game back in the day and it looked interesting but I never got around to playing it and ended up forgetting about it. Fast forward to about 2012-2013 and I rediscover it on a list of forgotten games and I decided to go ahead and take a look at the game and holy shit, I was in love with the art style. I'm not a huge Metalhead but goddamn was the art style insane and it was interesting how a lot of the words were based off of album covers. However to be fair, the main reason why I decided to give the game a proper look was because Opehlia. As a fan of Gothic/Dark characters, I just had to check her out and going off the cutscene movie I watched, she was just awesome. She even drives around in a hearse, how cool is that? LOL Though I was slightly annoyed that they got the Goth genre wrong as Goth is not a Metal genre and "Gothic Metal" has nothing to do with actual Goth music but I'm willing to put that annoyance aside for a character with great presence like Drowned Ophelia. :)
Anyway, what you said about the gameplay was the reason why I passed on the game. I don't like RTS all that much and I was initially thinking the game was gonna be a hack-n-slash. I agree that it would've been better received had it just stuck to being a simple Hack-N-Slash game with the occasional puzzles, platforming, and driving in an open world. I'm actually looking forward to a sequel for this game and hopefully they take the feedback they got with the first game and just keep it a simple action game. If they do that, I'll gladly buy day one release LOL
Awesome video Buns, it's nice when games like these get some attention and to answer your question, my favorite Jack Black movie is School of Rock mainly because that movie came out at a time when I was getting into rock music haha.
Decadent Gamer it’s awesome. Plus it has a kickass soundtrack. Notable examples are Cry of the Banshee playing when you fight a giant spider and Her Ghost in the Fog when you take on an army of undead goths.
@@AJARyan-yn2uv Yeah I heard that playing when I watched some gameplay videos lol

Nothing can beet Tim Curry the demon getting off to being cut up by a magic axe and shocked/burned/'sploded by a magic guitar all while the song Painkiller is banging in your ears.
Just found out about this channel through this video, quality speaks for itself, awesome narration, +1 sub
One of my favorite games tbh
Fucking love this game one of my all time favorites to bad we will never see a sequel.
Edit: I also love the fact that it is a hack n slash, rts the same as a childhood favorite of mine that has inspired me to no end and got me into video games. Kingdom under fire: Heros was also a hack n slash, rts. I think they pulled it off very well considering that almost no one even attempts to pull this style of game play off and that it can be used very well.
Typo in title, its "brütal legend"
First off. Already love your channel.
Second I actually really loved brutal legend. Not just the art and style but the gameplay. I did play it when i was like..12 so my attention span wasn't the best but i really love rts games. And the fact that you got to fight in the battles made it all the more awesome to me. Like i was actually part of the army i created.
Plus i have really fond memories of driving around listening to tunes discovering the world.
This game had so many positives that I was able to forgive everything that it didn’t do too well. The characters, the art style, the originality and creativity, and the fact that it introduced me to some pretty awesome bands that I still listen to on a daily basis. Never grew out of my metal phase or my love for edgy/brutal stuff lol.
I really liked the multiplayer component, all things considered. The Drowning Doom and Twisted Coil had LOADS of personality and gameplay differences in them, and if anything just messing around with the ai opponents is a blast just to see all the unit combos you can do as the other commanders. I mean, Doviculous (Tim Curry) plays a 4 necked guitar that he pulls out of his chest while occasionally using his heart as the pick for cryin' out loud.
I agree that the RTS bits could have been fleshed out way better, but they functioned pretty well if you took the time to get into them. They also probably had the best layman explanation of basic RTS mechanics (ie, fans are a resource, so you attract them with an epic guitar solo and a merch booth to get them to go to your stage and support it) that would have made it so anyone who didn't know the genre would able to figure out what to do.
Definitely a case of a game that was marketed to the mainstream audience, but was really meant for a much more niche market. Other than Giants: Citizen Kabuto I don't really know of another game that attempted this fusion of genres and made it work as well as it did, and it's a shame that it turned off a lot of players with that initial impression the advertisements gave.
Another example would be Sacrifice, which is extremely similar to BL but with different aesthetics. And even less known these days.
I disliked it at first, then tried it again years later, now it's one of my all-time favorites. The RTS parts could have been a bit more intuitive, but the sequel really did impr-oh.
Ah man such a great game. Even getting the platinum trophy on it now. Just done boosting the multiplayer
There are still people playing the multiplayer on it??
Smurph Ftw na, I used a forum to boost with someone
Yes, there's still a few playing it for fun, not boosting, on PC, PS3 and Xbox (especially with the backwards compatibility on XBone).
BDawg I didn’t come across no one. I even left my game on multiplayer for 2 hours while I messed about on my iPad and no one joined. I’m u.k too so pretty easy to connect to Europe and USA
On PC and PS3, you're never gonna find anyone via matchmaking :P
Brutal Legend was one of those games that always stuck in the back of my mind ever since my childhood. I was (and still am) a fan of metal, yet I never got around to playing the game until recently. It's definitely a product of its time gameplay & graphics-wise, but it's a fun time all around.
Hey last I saw a his of your was around a month ago and after this your editing has really improved and the comedic timing is so good. Good on ya
