Nobody will see this, but after getting hit by the roar, you can tell the difference by the position of the hammer. The hammer for low swing drags on the floor, the high swing doesnt touch the floor ;) just for you gamers who see this
You missed the most important part: if the troll attempts his charge attack when you are on the edge of his melee range, he will attack immediately instead of first running up to you, which means that if you simply walk away his attack will swing out of range and you won't have to guess how to dodge it at all. It's the easiest way to deal with roars and only takes learning the correct range to stand at.
You missed the most important part: The troll isnt the boss, its the 7 people that come in with full gold when u have upper middle class gear on and team on you bc learning the fight is too hard for them
Most comprehensive guide I've seen so far! The showcase of animations and also the cinematics at the beginning are top notch, very good production quality, keep it up. I'd have a few things to add as a seasoned troll slayer. If you are just learning how to do it, you will die a lot because most attack are one shot. Just go in default gear and figure out how to get there fast by avoiding mobs. Once you get your first kill, you can start thinking of bringing better weapons/heals. During the charged swing you can continue attacking the troll. As a rogue, you can get up to 8 hits during that attack depending on the weapon you use. You only get that attack if you circle right. Some veterans prefer going for circle left, it used to be safer because fist slam is on the right. However, now that stutters are fixed it should be fine either way. Any class can do this for sure, but the best as far as I've seen are warlock and bard. Warlock using hellfire can probably kill the fastest. Bard is great because of shriek of weakness.
2 important information about the running attack -its not just the roar, its the slow effect that trigger and you can get this slow from getting hit by any attack(except the basic slam aoe attacks) so if you get hit once but survives, expect the running attack next -if the troll is about to trigger the two hand ground slam and you leave melee distance before he grabs the club with two hands there's a high chance that he will just do a running attack and finish you before you even understand what happened
Me and my friends have a running joke where we call the combo attack chain with 5 attacks "coming home from work". When he slams the ground with his hand he is clocking in.
this came at a great time ngl. i was having trouble after the patch bcuz i’d just tank the roar and move in slightly to bait an early running swing, but i’m pretty sure that doesn’t work anymore. nice video
I've actually gotten bored with the grind lately and started doing the troll but I'm so glad you actually made a video on it because most of the videos out there miss some stuff. I would also like to add that particularly for rangers but technically anyone can do this if they need to heal or take a momentt but the roar mechanic can be outranged. This is generally done after the charged slam and it is far enough on one end of the room. It's not insanely far and when it misses at a distance it will harmlessly walk toward you and let you get some free shots in or heal up if needed.
very good videos. simple and easy to follow up. the only thing that im not good at is to differentiate between low n high swing after roar. As for the new players who want to kill Cave Troll please do not give up. At first i was dying like every game practicing my reaction time and movement, it took up to 20 deaths when i finally killed my first Troll, the satisfaction is immeasurable
Those side by side renders for his running attacks are great for learning the tell, would love some for the warlord to learn how to properly identify attacks for parries
Another thing to note about his combo mechanic. It is a result of how close you are to the troll. He will combo swing if you are too close. Using this knowledge, you can kite in the other direction from the video but you just have to wait till the troll puts his arm down on his side after the swing to do damage. If you go for damage too early, it will combo. Kiting right is generally safer but if you get good at it, kitting left gives more gaps for damage.
3:52 It's his eyes. If you can see them when he starts to swing, he's swinging high. I think. They're really super similar. Maybe I'll test this out...
I noticed for the trolls running attack, When he does the bottom swing his left arm will swing before he swings the hammer. And the mid swing he will point his off hand towards you and swing his hammer and arm simultaneously.
Honestly going around the left side is waaaaay easier when learning the fight the first time. The right side is only if you’re learning the speedrun strat because you can duck the second swing on his side sweep attacks
A good tip for fighter to make fight easier, breakthrough will stop the roar follow up attack since he won't do it unless you have the debuff. It's made my fights a lot more easier while still doing well with base mechanics.
On the mace slam, base bard gets 2 headshots with rapier. On fist slam you get 2 headshots+1 arm shot (or body if timing is good). At least when circling left. After swing attack, wait a second outside melee range, then go in for 1 body shot. Getting those 2 headshots after the safe attacks majorly speeds up the fight.
I never noticed until your side-by-side comparison of the high swing and low swing animations. On the low swing, the club never leaves the ground. During the high swing, the club is a 1-2 feet from the ground. Also, on a low swing, the troll's club arm doesn't swing to the opposite side of the troll behind his back. It does on a high swing. If you can see the club position before he brings it around, you may have time to react appropriately. It may simply be too fast of an animation to adjust in time, but worth testing.
@Ryan6DaysAWeek for the troll charge after roar an easy way to tell if the swing will be duck or jump the duck swing you can see the club on the opposite side of his body on the back swing
I think the attack choice after getting hit by roar depends on your distance. If there's a gap vs you're right against him. I need to practice some more today because I dont remember, but I think if you hug him he swings high and you duck.
nah im still trying and all this fucking boss does is roar and run at me with the guess swing, every single time, doesnt matter how close i stay he just always roars and sometimes i jump the swing but he always roars again right after
there is a way to always get hit by the roar and not take damage. if you are close enough to it after the roar it will do a wide swing that can be easily dodged, you have to be close to it to start the swing but far enough to run from it
small thing to add, if for some reason you can't dodge the roar, take your fists out and stare directly at the boss mouth while being distant from the troll, as soon as he is about to close the mouth and charge make a 180 turn and just walk, he is not going to hit you ever
I've also started the parry journey since they locked solos to GC again (please free the map QQ) and it's been a lot of fun. At first I was using the 30sec strat but it's very difficult to get over the fear of getting hit by pushing yourself into the boss. When it works it's very satisfying, but incredibly difficult to avoid the splash from the slam. After a few dozen attempts of that I switched to a circle left strat, with perfect positioning you can parry the right hand swing and hit him with the 2nd riposte swing since the first riposte swing might get punished by a combo. If he does an overhead slam you can turn 90 degrees and look up while walking left and very easily parry the slam and get a riposte head-shot in. If he does a charge attack run in and look up for an easy parry. His fist slam is a non-factor because you're circling left. There is an extremely risky way to parry the roar if you press yourself as close to the boss as possible, crouch, and turn around 160 degrees to the left so the tip of the blade is out towards your right where the low swing is coming from. If your positioning is perfect the low swing will get completely parried and you won't get hit, if it's a high swing it just goes over your head safely. I've gotten it to work a few times. The biggest issue I've had so far is learning the positioning of getting the parry off on the right hand swing. It's pretty scary to try to catch the swing with the tip of your blade but also be far enough that it doesn't hit you.
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! I just spent 15 minutes the other day explaining this fight in MS paint to a friend. Killing it Ryan. A few notes: 1. Rotating left or clockwise is better on time. This is because the cave troll will not do any CW Horizontal swings or combo chains as long as, during a CCW Horizontal swing, you go in for a swing as the club is at his side. Rotating right always has a chance of producing combo attacks. When there are fewer combo attacks, there is more chance for club slams and fist slams. During this fight, you want as many club and fist slams that he will produce as possible because that gives you an opportunity for headshots. Rotating left will never produce a charged swing; instead, you will get other basic attacks. 2. While rotating left, during club and fist slams, with weapons with high attack speed (including base kit bard, rogue, and fighter), you can get in two headshots during either attack. 3. During a charged swing, you do not need to look down; you only need to crouch, and you can continue attacking. 4. BOTH sprinting attacks can be easily dodged if you get hit by the roar. TURN AROUND, face away from the troll, and run away. No matter your distance from the troll, he will always swing short of you! 5. It is good to know both directions of fighting the troll due to other players and in case it is too close to the wall.
Rotating right is definitely faster. You can get way way way more head/body shots in while rotating right. If you rotate left you get more arm/hand swings in and it makes the fight take much longer
Hey when you are showing animated attacks could you possibly add guestimated hitboxes on the animation so its a bit easier to understand what parts is the bad ones.
whats the thing about the blinding sand shiit attack? like allmost all my deaths are based on he first blinding me by kicking up sand at me? EDIT! went to see the cyclops guide realising that it wasnt the cave troll i have been fighting xD
Mr. Ryan, can you share where you get the updated map modules, I only hace Ice Cavern and I'm struggling since Im a returning player that never player HR GC ;(
What do i do about the attack where he runs at you and swings the club faster than you can react. It looks like the follow up to the roar but he doesn't even roar
that attack is likely the same as the roar follow up so it either has to be jumped or ducked depending on the initial height of the swing - this move will trigger off of any king of slow effect on the player
All of the Cave Trolls attacks can be "blocked" but you will still take some AoE splash damage on the ground slam moves. A Longsword riposte can be activated though on every move except the roar
the highlighted module at 0:20 is where you need to go. Press "m" to open the map in-game when you are in the Goblin Caves. In this module you will find ramps that lead you down to the boss room.
@@rangerfox532 If this is truly happening then it is a visual bug - no new moves have been added to the Cave Troll. If you have a video/clip of your fight then I can check it out and connect the moves to the ones shown in the video
@@ryan6daysaweek ill try to replicate it. only happened after i got hit by a swing, would take dmg then he would do a charging swing like the roar but no warning
@@rangerfox532 my apologies ranger, I misunderstood. So to clarify: the sprint attack from the Troll will happen whenever you are slowed by any means. The most common occurrence that this happens is from the Troll's roar but just about every other attack will slow you and trigger a sprinting attack if you get hit. The only attacks that don't slow are the spash component of the Troll's basic attacks #3 and #4 (the ground attacks). I put it as just a small note in the video and but definitely should have done a better job clarifying since players now have more health and pdr so they will typically survive getting hit by the Troll. Most players in cloth usually just get one-shot by the Trolls moves so they never really see the slow + sprint combo and can only witness it during the roar action.
It's best not to since he'll just randomly run at others in the arena. To help could have dps rangers on the outside of the doors though but won't make that much of a kill difference.
no because ive probably died 30 times today to abosolute bullshit, i crouch infront of charged attack 1 and i get hit 50% of the time its a hit or a miss im doing it perfectly in chest aswell some BS
Personally I prefer to do the troll turning to the left instead of the right, Is faster an Easier. The difference between the Running attack 1 and 2 is that it depends in your distance with him, If you are far he is going to do a low attack but if you are close he is more likely to do a High attack.
Bro, I walk into the room right up to him and this guy roars every fucking time, what is the deal with this boss. Can kill cyclops reliably but not troll.
I do think the bosses are fun and they shouldn't be too complex because PVP counters exist. However, I agree that the one-shot mechanics are dumb and limit your playstyle heavily. Good luck killing troll as a slow PDR fighter or a wizard. I think it would be better if all the attacks were blockable or had some stagger mechanic, like if his overhead slam you could hit his arm it would be interrupted and his running attacks were easier (or even possible) to read. It sucks that every time you fight troll you're better off getting naked for the move speed because you're going to get one-shot anyway, and being countered after fighting the boss already puts you at a dis-advantage and now you're also naked. There's a reason almost nobody does GC bosses because the risk and dis-advantage of getting countered is too high.
No idea how anybody can consider this kind of game design fun You cant have fast paced boss fights in a game with movement like counter strike Single mistake and you are on 10% hp + slowed for no reason
Nobody will see this, but after getting hit by the roar, you can tell the difference by the position of the hammer. The hammer for low swing drags on the floor, the high swing doesnt touch the floor ;) just for you gamers who see this

The two handed overhead slam is every 4 attacks so you can keep track of it and get a head start moving away
I'm super late to this post but it seems like he swaps to slam after 3 attacks instead of 4 once he is below 50% hp
You missed the most important part: if the troll attempts his charge attack when you are on the edge of his melee range, he will attack immediately instead of first running up to you, which means that if you simply walk away his attack will swing out of range and you won't have to guess how to dodge it at all. I prefer standing completely still in the roar then holding a or d to strafe away from the follow up swing. works every time
The timing can be easily done by starting to strafe away when the troll closes his mouth.

yo ncs, hope you have been doing well haha
You make it look so easy, but i guess this is kind of umfeasable for casual players huh.
Forgot to mention that it is litterally impossible on barbarian even with no armor on
Man.
Really sad that none of the boss fights are fun or interesting.
And they're all just filled to the brim with one shots. Or near oneshots.
No idea how anybody can consider this kind of game design fun
You cant have fast paced boss fights in a game with movement like counter strike
Single mistake and you are on 10% hp + slowed for no reason
Have you heard of Dark Souls?
skill issue
1000Th like :P
this shit doesnt work
