I apologize for my lack of attention to the informality of eating pizza in a place of worship, and I will surely be more mindful next time I have an organ appointment that aligns with lunch time. As for the turbulence of the "camera/photo apparatus", here is the same video, but with the turbulent bits cut out so that you can enjoy without "headaches" ua-cam.com/video/bJgucb_aQiA/v-deo.html
Love this organ. I will visit this church next time I’m in DC. Also a tip of the hat to the organist who’s filling in. Looking forward to hearing George Washington’s organ tomorrow. Thanks for these great posts.
I once tuned a 2/5 Style 150 WURLITZER for an ATOS event. It was the only organ I have ever tuned that gave me a headache. I'm sure it was a real screamer in the small theatre that was its original home. 😊
What an amazing organ in a fabulous acoustic. The French voicing is just awesome and so was the playing by Daniel Carroll - what a rising star! You look to have had a great visit, Charles, though after such a 'beefy' instrument . . . sushi would fail to satisfy my hunger pangs! Bravo!

Pretty tough to beat a Cavaille-Coll organ. This is not a Cavaille-Coll but it comes pretty close. Well done.
0:45 in case anyone was wondering that's "Final" opus 27.7 from Marcel Dupre's Seven Pieces, though my personal favorite from that suite is 27.4 "Carillon" and 2:54 the sound of just the foundations is so so sweet :)
Keep the camera steady please although I read that this is the movement-edited (for the better) version. But, diziness aside, the gentleman in the blue shirt was enjoying himself as much as I enjoyed listening to the organ's capacity through his hands and feet and then came along another blue (Tshirt) individual who also knew what he was doing. The organ's place in the future seems assured.
Managed to watch for 2 or 3 minutes but the camera work was giving me a headache. Try watchinf some pf the pieces by scott brothers duo and learn how to film.
@@Charles-Reardon Well, you're obviously doing something right! I just wish it weren't becoming increasingly difficult to avoid the whole church battle over contemporary-versus-traditional music! Down here in Texas, organs and organ music are becoming increasingly perceived to be old-fashioned and outmoded.
Actually, Cavaille-Coll preferred to have the Grand Orgue be the middle manual on 3-manual instruments due to how much more complex the mechanics had to be when having the Positif be the middle manual, but the organists of the day usually requested the reverse, with the G.O. on the bottom. There's one C-C organ, however, where he was able to install it the way he wanted, with the G.O. manual in the middle, because there was no high-profile organist demanding the reverse! I learned this from Fugue State Films' DVD documentary about Cavaille-Coll.
I'm not sure whether or not you are familiar with the beliefs of Catholics (and Orthodox) - but The King of Kings and Lord of Lords is truly and substantially present in their Sacrament: in this church, He is there in the Tabernacle near that little lamp in the Sanctuary. His churches are for prayer and holy things: nothing profane in His presence. Read the text of the great hymn "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence." That's the proper disposition when entering Catholic and Orthodox churches. There are places for eating and witty banter - but His temple is not that place. Thank you for demonstrating the organ nonetheless.
I'm sorry, but this is unwatchable because of the camera's too rapid movements. I tried not looking at the screen, but without a dedicated microphone the sound changes too. Once you've ironed out the technical I really do look forward to seeing your future travels.
My hosts? They didn’t pay to be there. One is just filling in for the organist and the other is a friend of his. The blue shirt guy was actually being paid to be there lol
maybe it was just the recording equipment, but I was there and I can assure you that both the trombone (really a bombarde) and chamade were perfectly in tune

Thanks for this.
why can't you eat in a church?? Christ ate with all sinners. So no problem.
God wouldn't have given us pizza if he didn't want us to eat it. Nice video, thanks for sharing this instrument with us!
Eating Pizza in Cologne cathedral leads to being kicked out.
such a lush sound, I love the little diddy David played at 1:45. He seems very fluent with this organ.

I love how talented you all are. Organ very much in the spirit of Cavaille-Coll, though a little smoother and less raw thunder.
That is one incredible instrument!

Great organ. But what made you think eating pizza in a church was ok? Dude. Show some respect.
Nevermind that downstairs there's a commercial kitchen. 🙄
Nothing wrong with eating pizza in church.
@bongdrop There's a commercial kitchen in my church, too, but nobody would eat in the sanctuary, other than communion bread.
@@bongdrop downstairs and in the sanctuary are a big diff. It’s ignorant. Simple as that.

Cavaillé-Coll has not been in business since the 19th century. Modern builders come pretty close.
Wonderful instrument!!!

Thanks for the information !
And that soft piece right in front of it? Do you know that one too?
I'm supposing that the 8' Bourdon-Harmonic is a stopped Bourdon in the bass and becomes open harmonic pipes in the treble.
Ok, 4:44 is awesome
I very much enjoyed Daniel. He is good.

No, this isn’t. Check the description

Maybe drink some water or watch while sitting, nobody else seems to have an issue

Where have the two of you studied? You're both already amazingly skilled organists at such a young age!
I’ve just taken lessons, but I taught myself all my foundations of the organ. I started the piano at age 7 so that’s where my chops come from

That’s too bad. I wish you luck in your future organ things. The east coast is fantastic for organs
What is the compass of the keyboards, more than 61 or less?
Less
Magnificent instrument. Such beautiful sounds. I thought the great division on French instruments was the bottom keyboard. I must have misunderstood
It is! here was evidently decided to get the usual layout instead of the french one
@@davidecymba Thanks!

Yet another Noachian screamer. There’s more to organs than screams. Perhaps it’s the microphone placement?
Im not sure what you’re talking about
Suggest you listen to any Daniel Roth video on a Cavaille-Coll organ. This organ is very French. Perhaps a Dobson is more to your taste.
While this organ is obviously great for French rep., wouldn't it maybe be more accurate to describe it as some sort of English-French hybrid?
I think it’s French all around. What would you say is English about it?
@@Charles-Reardon Well, just reading the stoplist, it looks rather English on paper, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean anything!
@organist1982 You’re right about that, especially how the pedal reeds are simply called “trombone” and “trumpet” versus Bombarde or Trompete.
Nicely done! Bravo! And Bravo as usual, to Noack.
You could be a little more respectful to your hosts. They paid for your enjoyment.

CapitOl Hill. Just sayin
The chamade is hideously out of tune...
And the low-CCC of the Pedal 16' Trombone!
maybe it was just the recording equipment, but I was there and I can assure you that both the trombone (really a bombarde) and chamade were perfectly in tune
Oddly enough I remember low C of the pedal reed being super sharp
