The VOX-FROGGER! 🙂
The console looks like a Moller Artiste.
Organ isn’t organning
It's so sad the Mormon church has fallen on hard times. The church can't afford to buy pipe organs for their meeting houses like they once did. I didn't realize the church was so destitute. Maybe it should sell off some of its property to help the situation.
This is not my understanding. In the 80’s (I believe) the church banned real pipe organs from being built in chapels because they are so expensive to maintain. They stopped buying pipe organs way back then to keep finances in mind, and to my understanding it has been working very well. Their only priority is to get an instrument in there that can accompany, and digital organs do the job. Because the church owns such an incredible high number of chapels and temples it would be a money pit to put a pipe organ in each one. I would guess there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of LDS church buildings in the world.
So nice. To see young person playing so well. I regret the loss of interest in organs, but am hopeful this young organist and others will revive interest in the instrument to younger generation as organs are sadly neglected.Thank you for helping to revive interest in the instrument.
Absolutely Beautiful Sound and Playing 😂, what is so sad, churches spend THOUSANDS of dollars $$$ on a pipe organ, years later, stop using it!😢, such a waste 😮,
This content you published is really interesting, much deserved LIKE
I knew before the camera even got into the chapel that it wasn't a Wicks. Thank goodness!
I’ve played a very similar console at a Lutheran church in Denver, but I realize why. It’s a 1923 Wurlitzer that’s been reformulated into a church organ by Morel & Associates, and when they built that organ they were the Reuter dealer in Colorado, so it’s probably a Reuter console. It sounds terrible and like it’s in another building, but it’s the first pipe organ I ever played, so I have fond memories.
As always, great playing! Having spent quite a bit of time playing this instrument as a missionary, one of my biggest problems with the instrument is that the gemshorn is SO small that it’s hard to use with or against any other stop without getting lost. I do think it’s very clever to have each rank of flutes play at 8’ on one division and 4’ on the other so that the instrument doesn’t feel quite so unified. The instrument sounds like it’s in better shape than when I was playing it, so that’s good to hear!
I didn’t know the flutes were unified like that!
The OctoContrabass saxophone would be able to compete! Lol
Toccata on Veni Emmanuel by Andrew Carter 0:00
Great to know !
If I could have a wish, I wish you could visit my church and have your way with our 29 rank Reuter. It is has good bones, is well maintained, played beautifully every Sunday, and exists in an incredibly dead-flat acoustic. But it can fill the room. Love your videos!
This 1972 Reuter extension organ makes a pretty good sound and is more than adequate for the space into which it speaks, with its very dry acoustic. It is a shame that the 8' reed is not available at 16' on the pedal, and the lack of combination pistons will limit fast registration changes when playing repertoire . . . but better to have pipes than no pipes at all! Thanks for the demonstration, Charles - it's always good to hear you play: bravo!
No food is allowed to eat in church especially. Best to eat 😋 before or after church organ playing!!
Open toed shoes aren’t allowed on horse ranches and bags that aren’t transparent aren’t allowed at professional football games. You also aren’t allowed to scratch something unless it itches.
Toobaa!
Sería una locura que esos sonidos también se hagan con aire que sale de los tubos
It’s good to hear Opus 1130! Our dear free Bill Hesterman requested information on this instrument some years ago. I pulled all of our records for him.
i want to go back 🥲
did you use the 32 foot bombarde? That is IMPORTANT.
Allens have come a long way with their samples, and they sound like they mesh decently with the pipework, but the one thing that digital organs can never get right in my experience is the harmonics of mixtures. So personally, if I was the organist, I would probably only use the real great mixture but other than that, it sounds decent for the small church. You make do with what you have.
I think it’s just Allen
@@Charles-Reardon understandable, there is a very nice allen up near me. One of the quantum custom models on the high end. It was hard to tell if it was real or fake when I first listened to it until the mixtures came on, then it was instantly identifiable. It's something with harmonics that I guess speakers cannot replicate.
I disagree… have you heard walker technology or Marshall and ogletree? From my experience they are indistinguishable from pipe organs. I walked around a church for a solid few minutes once looking for pipework while an organist was practicing in a church (a very loud piece with mixtures, mind you) and I gave up before I realized it was a Walker digital. It was incredible
@@Charles-Reardon I think it helps to remember that, from the beginning, Allen has had a "tonal concept", which can be loosely defined as, produce only sounds that will not offend people who know very little about how real pipe organs sound, especially members of a church committee who will make the decision to purchase, or not purchase, a given digital instrument. Even many professional orchestra musicians & conductors don't understand the harmonic build-up of a principal chorus, and some are especially annoyed by mixture stops! Allen has been very successful, over many years, selling their expensive machines.
That is the Doxology !
15:32 did you combine the chamade with the chorus with full organ? It plays surprisingly well with others if so
No, I didn’t change anything for that chord
Two moderately-large organs, in a city with many large organs. And some of them are in better rooms!
Love the regal, it's the most interesting one I've heard
UA-cam musta had a brain fart. I just got notification of this post. Better late than never! Syrupy smooth strings. The drapery on all those windows isn't heavy enough as there was still 1 millisecond reverb. LOL :)
Excellent
😂
Worth remembering that a full length 32' pedal reed is not very portable (if only!), unlike the orchestral Tuba! You were clearly having fun!
What are you talking about when you have a beast like that people come to it out of respect it does not need to be transported 😂
@EzraAdel, I believe he was talking about the sound per instrument, how similar they are in tone.
Got to play it back in August during the American Institute of Organ Builders convention. It’s a very nice organ!
I love pipe organs. I was born in southern California and my church building had a 3 manual 23 rank pipe organ. It was built by R.M. Ballantyne Pipe Organs in 1997 incorporating components from two older Austin organs from 1905 and 1910. I got to play it when my family visited California this summer. It is located inside the Newport Beach stake center.
So glad I found your channel, I love the organ but a lot of the presentation videos I find are so hard, boring and frustrating to watch.. however, I could watch your videos all day and never get bored!! So much great chat, information, knowledge, and most of all, virtuosic playing!!
amazing but a bit clickbate, eg, liverpool cathedral is alot larger
Saint John the Divine’s floor space is 16,000 square feet larger that Liverpool Cathedral’s
@Charles-Reardon oh wow, sorry then
Excellent performance! Aloha from Hawaii.
Very nice performance of Schubert’s March Militaires. Your videos are fun and you’re clearly having fun playing the organ. It’s also fun and heartwarming to watch your growth as an organist and musician.
You are just so enjoyable to watch and hear! That is a really nice instrument in spite of a pipe or two needing some attention. Great that it has been maintained for all the years. Nothing like a good old Austin. Please keep the videos coming as you are able.
I was fortunate enough have this instrument in my area when I was a missionary in late 2020. It was good company during the pandemic and truly is a beautiful and surprisingly versatile instrument when you learn how to use it. Beautiful playing and I love your videos!
I always enjoy your organ demonstrations, Charles, because your enthusiasm for the King of Instruments is infectious and fills my heart with optimism for the future, knowing fine organists like you will champion 102 year old organs! What gorgeous strings! As you remark, plenty of colour and some fire, too, in the reeds. A glorious sound all round. I hope your first semester studying music lived up to expectation. No doubt you will enjoy the holiday . . . and I hope you find time for some more uploads! B R A V O !
I was just looking at this organ on the OHS website last night! Such a beautiful organ!
Hey! I took those pictures a few years ago and updated the stoplist on Monday. Glad to see someone else appreciates my work!
You play beautiful organ music pieces on the large church organ. I think it's very beautiful.
i've played this too
Lmao what is this
Now do a short fugue on the Weezer riff from "Buddy Holly"
Would like to hear more on this lovely instrument.
Oh Charles. We didn’t get your usual smile at the end 😂
I'm guessing from the manuscript book on the music stand of this beautiful instrument that the 'anon' composer might be . . . you! (An assignment in writing counterpoint?). Bravo, Charles!
Cletus
I'm always so happy when an organist is not only competent, but has the courtesy to wear shoes. Getting so tired of all the sock-only or barefoot-wonders on UA-cam. lol
What form of musical artistry do you NOT perform? Multiple instruments, so far. Is there a vocal video on the horizon?Love some marching band. This was a great show.
What a spectacle - fantastic choreography and synchronization! (Sadly I could not pick you out in your white pants and feathered hat - quite the dapper look!)
