What most people don't realize about car manufacturers is that they almost exclusively assemble parts bought from suppliers, and they all have a finite choice of suppliers. That includes engine blocks in most cases (ok high end cars might be different there). No car manufacturer is making bodywork, machining engine blocks, cam shafts, gearboxes, electronic components, cutting glass, molding plastics etc. It would be impossible. They just order from suppliers and put it all together. That's just what manufacturing is. 😂

James, you forgot to mention these Diamond Star Motors cars: the Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest and the Mitsubishi 3000GT/Dodge Stealth. These were the most beloved dream cars from my youth (yes, way back before you were a glimmer in your daddy’s eye). Then I got my drivers license in 1991, a Nissan 240SX, and learned to love it. Now I can only wish to find that 1987 Starion Tsi that I test drove as a teen in even non-running condition, but I’m more likely to find a winning lottery ticket while walking down the street - that ticket still couldn’t resurrect my childhood dream ❤
Great video, as always. I love this channel. I look forward to seeing you guys do a video about the new Acura Integra Type S, I’m ready to buy that so I can bring all of the car thieves to the yard - we have a 2020 Civic Si and a spot saved for my old-person’s Type R. Blahblahblah.

Most luxury cars will depreciate, especially if you drive them, especially often. Cars that won't depreciate so much are the low mileage cars (especially if they are stock) cars from the 80s and 90s. Nowadays, its the NSXs, the Type R, or even the 964 Porsche. Sure, they may not be as fast as a supercar, but you will be making BANK!

That's how my Airtrek Turbo R was born.
Mitsubishi changed the bumpers, bonnet and tail lights of the Outlander and made the Airtrek- giving it a "more urban" look with some funky interior options, but then for a sports model, they yoinked the driveline of an Evo and popped in an uprated auto gearbox and gave it somewhat milder cams and a little bit smaller turbo and presto! This the same driveline was then popped into the Evo wagon and Evo GTA, but to keep the Evo GTA and Evo Wagon on par with previous models, adding 40 more HP from the Airtrek Turbo R, they retained the more aggressive cams and turbo. The downside to the Airtrek is they were all automatics, the up-side is that It's an SUV chassis that is happy to handle more power. Unlike the regular Lancer chassis which required upgrades and strengthening in several locations to handle the Evolution driveline. If only the Lancer Estate was the same chassis as the Lancer Evolution Wagon, it would give Evo guys so many more options for restoration!

The db7 is actually sick, even had a t56 in the manual cars. Very misunderstood, surprised people never tuned the or added turbos the block and crank were special but rods, pistons amongst many other parts were essentially pulled from fords parts catalogue. Meaning that the specifications that were used to say, make the stock or even aftermarket forged pistons, did and do fit the V12 off the shelf. Crazy

I had a 2008 Volvo C30 back in the day, awesome hatchback! Busted a shock absorber and decided to run the part number in the web. I ended finding out the Mazda 5 used the same part for a third of the price. Also a friend of mine in Spain had a 2014 Range Rover Evoque Diesel with a damaged turbo cooler. We ended up finding out it shared the engine with a small Ford delivery wagon only available in Europe. He got it more than 3 times off the Range Rover price. Finally all the McLaren Supercars use a Nissan VRH35L racing engine redesigned by Ricardo PLC that uses Nissan Sentra's coils and Mitsubishi turbos. 20 bucks for the Sentra coils against 250 bucks at the McLaren website.🤦🏽‍♂️

There is one particularly egregious case of parts bin sharing, and it's the first generation, pre-facelift, Land Rover Discovery. The headlights were from a Freight Rover Sherpa, the taillights were from an Austin Maestro Van, the chassis, door frames, and even most of the glass was from a first generation Range Rover, as were the axles, transfer case and the manual gearbox. A lot of the switchgear was from an Austin Montego, the door handles were from a Morris Marina, the heater vents from an Austin Metro. Even the V8 petrol was from the Range Rover, albeit earlier versions. The only new things were the bodywork outer skins, the roof and taildoor, some of the trim, and the 200 Tdi engine. In fact, the parts-bin sharing was done on such a cheap level, a lot of components still had the branding from the vehicle they were taken from!
