Some of the menu screen seemed to have gotten cut but its not missing anything too important. Game speed isn't perfect in places. -

I remember playing this with my dad, he said "graphics will never get better than this"
o baby
they can always get better...even today....never say they can't get any better.
James G
O RLY?
Lol then came Star Fox 64.
MagicalMysteryTrip when my dad saw this a couple months ago he said “I don’t remember games looking this bad”
When the ships launch at the start, the music, the characters chatting, the camera angles, what an ultra stylish way to start the game. Many modern games could learn from this.
Still the most memorable thing I cherish about this game, next to the Arwing’s simple yet sleek design.
Yeah it’s a great intro to the gameplay
This game is SO unique. Ive never played it so I decided to come here to watch be played. It is well worth the whole watch
So hilarious when Fox & Falco talk. Makes me smile every time.
The music in this game was fucking something else. Absolutely amazing, and so was the game. They don't make them like this anymore.
Totally agree, amazing soundtrack!
One of the best soundtracks. Especially Cornerias first song
The Super effects Chip was truly something at the time. 16 bit 3 D graphic
Too bad Hirasawa never scored a game anymore
Agreed. Nintendo pushed the SNES soundchip to it's limits. I love the soundtrack for this reason.
"Hey!! It's me, Slippy!!"
Slippy desperately trying to remind the audience he's in this game.
+DarkOmegaMK2 I wish he wasn't.
+DarkOmegaMK2 Actually he's reminding us that we are shooting him by accident, but I understand how hated he is by SF fans because of how he slips up a lot (pun intended), and I share the feelings, he really shouldn't be in an arwing, but he is anyway.
This is the only one where they made it so no one talks.
@@MarioFan587YT Fox McCloud contacts Coneria as he’s leaving Venom but understandable you couldn’t hear it clearly, hardware limitations and all
Lol
The sound quality and music score here are among the best to ever hit the 16-bit era, and the map screen music is simply epic. This is like the Star Wars of video games. Absolute masterpiece.
i was scared in some way of this game when i was a kid... it had the feeling you were lost in space...
great game and memories
+Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog ikr
Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog bruh! haven't you heard of frickin galaga or gradius? those were space games that doesn't felt like I'm lost in space or what so ever!
you were scared. i was terrified...
@@Thewolfguys.cartoons2000 he's not talking about those games
@@dandelion40k87 Oh really? What else are you talking about?
I loved this game so much.
When I played it the first time it totally warped my brain and I couldn't stop playing.
By far my favorite SNES game of all time.
Yup this was comparable to arcade graphics back then and that was a big deal!
i love the music
me too, is the best music in star fox series
"When are we dabbin'?" - Falco 1993
I hear "Bubba we jammin'" Lmao
Sounds like Falco says " NO WING DAMAGE" HAHA
I hear... something damnit
What does Dabbin means?
@@justbenjie That's close to what I hear, "No my wing's damaged."
What a game this was. The creativity that went into this game was amazing. A staggering variety of enemies and levels, you could tell the creators put in a serious amount of work into it. Beautiful game.
You dont need textures when you have the SNES color palete thats the thing I love about Starfox, the brilliant colors and minimal detail
56:56 "Bogey on my six!" "Mind your own business, Fox!" "Okay, I'll just let you get blown up, you ingrate!"
And people complain about games today not being 60FPS! This is around 10FPS and runs fine to me!
+JuicyPlayer It's because lower quality graphics are stimulating you more conceptually, so you perceive more in your head than with a modern game.
Less important, but also true is that the gameplay is slower paced, so a low framerate does not hurt your ability to play the game, and thus bother you.
+JuicyPlayer It ran like shit back then and it runs like shit now.
I never liked Star Fox back then because of this, i prefer to play a good 2D 60 fps game than an unplayable 15 fps 3D game.
Star Fox 64 is great though.
+Krusty Kraken 1% of what you say is true, it's just because graphics were shit back then.
They literally couldnt make it better looking and running faster
No, 2d games typically ran at 60fps unless they were PAL then the max they ran at was 50fps. This was due to NTSC and NTSC-J being 60hz and PAL being 50hz. There were some games that did run at 30fps though like Metal Slug.
Hell, original gameboy games ran at 60fps.
Try any fast paced game and lock it to 10 FPS and get back to me, especially FPS or racing games.
This is pretty damn good for twenty-year old graphics. I remember the commercial for this game; they were talking about a new chip that delivered vastly improved graphics over anything else at the time. Had great music, too.
Omg. This takes me back to my childhood. (I'm 22 now) I'm getting emotional. Thank you so much!
same here dude
I used to have starfox's voice as the tone for whenever I got a text message
I have the same, and I assign my friends the sounds from the various wing men. Group texts get funny sometimes.
I had the "good luck" for ages myself
Give this man a price
Still argue to say this is better than SF64, but pretty much in the "dark" tone the game takes. The music was also a lot better than SF64. Heck, Smash Brothers agrees! Really wish they could find a way to emulate this on current-gen for more people to play.
Its on the SNES mini.
Both good games. Starfox on the N64 was a lot better in every way though.
Beard_Grizzly Star fox 64 was the reason why star fox 2 was canceled. But brought back on mini snes
rabote007 Yep when Star Fox 2 was made the next generation of consoles was coming real soon so Nintendo decided to focus on the n64.
Beard_Grizzly The menu music on this is better than on 64 but aside perhaps from the Corneria theme in this, the music to each level on 64 was way better imo. As for the gameplay, Lylat Wars all the way!
the visuals and audio were out of this world.... loved this game.
Hands down, one of the coolest snes games of all time.
Wow, watching this really takes me back to when I'd play this along with Yoshi's island on the SNES at my grandad's house as a kid. Quite nostalgic indeed:)
The graphics look as great as a (good) 32X game, given how they were able to use POLYGONS in a 16-BIT GAME. It's done well here too!
This is the best star fox that was ever made 100%
daminmancejin agreed. I played just this and star fox 64. Nothing else can compare with this. Didn't care for the rest of the series
Graphics wise its not the best, but the gameplay is great
Star Fox Zero is actually worth a look at. Its basically SF64 with better graphics and boss fights
Than play starfox 2...
I'd say Star Fox 64 and the unreleased Star Fox 2 are better, even though this is good in it's own right.
this is simply amazing for 16 bit era
Best SNES game ever, Even though the graphic are laughable when compared to the N64 Starfox, there something about the original that touched me so much, I don't know If it's was the gameplay, controls or just the music score, for some reason I still think the snes Starfox was the greatest of all the Star Fox's. I was really angry that the completely changed the OST after the 1st Starfox.
me too. The music here has something special
Not the best. But very good.
love this game sooo much. thanks for taking the time to do the upload.
They should remake this with up to date graphics of current consoles...
True ! Starfox was in a calling all its own. Would love to see it remade.
When i was a kid this game blew my freaking mind. I remember being like "holy shit this is unlike anything i've ever experienced" haha...
One of my favorite games of all time. I still play it often.
that's awesome! I love it's simplicity and how it could be beaten in only a few sittings. That's something that video game creators think they HAVE to do, is make an obnoxiously long game.
Me too.
The art style of this game was awesome. Especially the colors.
I love this game so much. I have playd it for two years. I love the music, soundeffects and the graphics. The graphics in this game is the best I ever have seen.
I know you posted this 13 years ago, but for some reason ever since I saw your long play of Batman Forever your channel has become my default for watching all these SNES clásica long plays. Thanks!
I remember when I finally beat this game on Hard (Stage 3) as a pre-teen and damn near lost my mind. My mom had thought I mortally wounded myself with all of the jumping and shouting I did. Took me years to get that good and man, it felt good when it finally paid off. Love this game still.
YEAH - LET'S GO!!
TRY A SOMERSAULT
DO A BARR-- ERM, ALIERON ROLL!!!!
PEPPPPYYYYYYY HAAAAAARRREEEE!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Star fox snes explodiu minha mente qdo criança, nunca mais esquecerei .
Thanks fox
Getting goosebumps remembering all the good times I had playing this. Need to break it back out and play.
I think this is an amazing game even not including the amazing graphics. So it's frustrating that they didn't release the fully finished Star Fox 2 in 1995 as the developers said it was pointless as the N64 can do better 3D graphics than the fx 2 chip in Star Fox 2. It shouldn't have been about graphics they should have released it anyway. This is still considered amazing today even though we have PS4 etc so they still should have released Star fox 2 as they had already completed development on the game.
wizzgamer Even though Star Fox 64 will kind of be remembered as their golden goose, Star Fox 1 actually has the best soundtrack in my opinion and Star Fox 2 introduced a lot of features that were commonplace in later games. The drop in FPS kind of ages the games poorly in my opinion, but I never had an issue with the visuals being, you know, polygon target practice. It's very unique and artsy even by today's standards.
wizzgamer buy a snes mini, i bought one for £50 yesterday and it has this star fox on it plus star fox 2
I love Star fox on Super Nintendo 1993
Many think that Mode 7 is what scales this game's sprites or tilts the mountain backdrop, but if what I know about the game is correct, Mode 7 is actually absent during the main gameplay. The sprite scaling is done through Super FX (Not just for flat shaded polygons) and the backdrop is tilted using Mode 2 Tile offsets and raster shearing (Similar to the first boss in Contra: Hard Corps on Genisis/Megadrive), as the SFX frame buffer needs it's own BG layer (BG1) to be displayed on, with the mountains displayed on BG2. If that backdrop or the scaling sprites were rendered using Mode 7, that would leave nowhere for the SFX graphics to be displayed in the SNES's hardware, since Mode 7 only offers one BG layer.
Feel free to reply if you have any questions.
"Get lost, you fiend!!"
dedabdedabdab!!
yakkowarner1990 Ding ding, ding ding.
Same thing I tell the crackhead asking for money when I'm pumping gas or getting off the highway.
OMG !!!! Years and years and finally we meet again my Old Star Fox.
Fucking love this game. It was on another level graphics wise from the rest of the attempts at 3d on 16-bit systems and it was actually really solidly playable and fun. It really was a solid attempt to push the SNES to its limits and deliver something that wasn't thought possible when the machine initially came out.
Veggietales was in cgi and it came out the same year as star fox
my4trackmachine Thanks to a chip called Super FX, the starfox game is created.
Virtua Racing on the Genesis was actually technically superior in terms of polygon processing.
Used to love this game as a kid. Remember thinking it was so futuristic, and it does still look pretty good. The banter between the pilots is very Star Wars-esque in it's style. One thing though: Did anyone else ever manage to break a wing off on their ship? I'm sure I did it once.
Back when games were a real challenge.
One of the hardest SNES games ever made. Unusual for a game developed by Nintendo.
+mopbrothers
It wasn't developed by Nintendo, Nintendo guys only sponsored the british team Argonaut Games who not just made the game, but also develop custom gpu chip GSU they build in cartrige.
+Black Flash It was developed by Nintendo and programmed by Argonaut. Game development is more than just programming. You can take a look at the credits.
Technical Machine
Lets just say, nintendo guys never able to make another game like that. Thats shows who was the real developer.
They even used perfect camera and controls code from StarFox2 in Mario64 and lot of other N64 games.
+Black Flash Can't argue with that.
It's not when u got practice a lot tho.
I love playing classic, retro and throwback videogames like this. It sure brings back memories.
And I always love to hear that chime @ 1:55:16 🎐
Call me crazy but I believe "Star Fox" can (and should) work as a major motion picture in the hands of Disney Pixar. Does anyone agree or disagree?
That just might be crazy enough...to actually work.
Night - Wing I feel that Fredryk Phox is doing a great job creating The Animated Series.
I dunno... Historically, game-movies have a tendency to suck. Hard.
+HalcyonVI The series is going to be for mature, and the content that I saw from his livestreams was great.
+Chris Lacy I disagree. Star Fox is better off as just a video game franchise
Como me hacia feliz este juego Que tiempos aquellos *~*
One of my childhood favorites!
The sound and music in this game was heavy and raw as fuck
+nabbutie he doesn't mean it in a bad way.. lol
+Demonkai Mugen I love this music over the later theme which became standard since SF64.
+Jonathan Ramirez 1993 games usally had good soundtracks is what nabbutie meant
+Demonkai Mugen Still my favorite soundtrack in the series! Even some of the best music on the SNES (especially Corneria and the Space Armada!).
u can see a lot of effort went into making this game. I made it to the 2nd level as a kid, never thought I would get to see the end :)
thanks for not skipping the team talking in the beginning your the only one who didn't on youtube lol i need them for my song :)
Sooooo much nostalgia...of the first level! As a tiny 4 to 5 year old I didn't understand much then.
Before Ace Combat there was Star Fox...feeling so nostalgic right now my eyes are tearing up.
This needs to be added on Wii U VC.
Ry Guy I agree. Since Star Fox Wii U was mentioned last year. I wonder why they couldn't port it for Wii Virtual Console? Graphics or software problems?
MythicMage Apparantly it's to do with the Super FX chip being copyrighted by some stingy holdings company that wont let nintendo release any Super FX games on Virtual console. Hence no Starfox, Stunt race FX, Vortex or Snes version of Yoshis Island. Then again there's always hope, Earthbound eventually got a VC release, so one day this will (hopefully)
madcapoperator
I suppose thats why they released the Gameboy Advance version of yoshis island instead on Wii U VC. So the SNES version might not come anyway because the GBA version is the same Yoshis Island just added with voices right?
madcapoperator I think is a software emulation problem, since Nintendo have to make a specific emulator for each game, and reproducing superFX chip is not easy. Argonaut software (developers of superFX chip) closed years ago, so there isn't any copyright issue :)
But is strange, on my wii i have snes9xGX and it emulates starfox like the snes, if not better.
SF64 GOT A RELEASE! WE JUST NEED SF 1
READY, FOX!!
Falco Lombardi Hey Einstein, I'm on your side!
Get 'em Falco!
@Tyler Morelock ugh..
I want to play this again so bad! I loved this when it came out.
+Jason Cashmore get a ZNES emulator and the rom, you can easily play it on your pc man.
I listened to this whilst at work.
It's wonderful to have in the background. Bit of nostalgia, the occasional 'Bur bur bur wing damaged' from Falco. 'Twin bastard' once in a while.
Plus the music is simply great :)
Thanks a lot for the upload.
Music still holds up. Awesome!!
This was so breathtaking as a child.
Route 1 (easy) starts at 0:56
Corneria>Asteroid Field> Andros' Armada> Meteor Attack Base> Venom
Route 2 (Medium) starts at 42:20
Coneria> Sector X> Titania> Sector Y>Venom
Route 3 (Hard) starts at 1:18:46
Corneria>Asteroid Field>Fortuna>Sector Z>Macbeth>Venom
My Childhood from the early 90's I never beat this game until the 2000's
Looking back, they really did a he'll of a job on your he graphics in this game. When you think snes, you don't think about shooting down battleships down in space.
This game is a marvel. The SNES isn't able to render 3D graphics, the closest it has is Mode 7. Therefore, it should not be able to run this game. And somehow it does. Nintendo is fucking amazing
SuperFX chip...
@@topsyandpip56 Used for Mode 7
This game was the shit back in the day. At the time it was state of the art graphics and on a personal level I loved the atmosphere and gameplay. If they made something like this with today's graphics it would be immense.
Great sound fx, great music, cutting edge graphics, addictive gameplay. A classic!
One of my favorite games when I was younger :)
"Do a barrel roll!"
Honestly, he took way too many shots he could have deflected...
Oh the memories
So glad I played it
Dat Music..Awesome time it was.
So many memories bought back, amazing!
so much memories , one of my favorite games growing up
I want this game!! This game is perfect for people who love foxes! I'm a fox lover!
Ahead of its time...awesome game!
Games back then were so hard compared to the modern games, they have to make them noob friendly apparently
******double facepalm*
Well sometimes they were pretty hard for not telling you what to do
try playing this game now it will be easy , you think its hard because you were a noob kid when you played it
Austin Bartunek Yeah. Back than there were some games that didn't have tutorials or games back than. This game had a tutorial, though.
I keep losing cause the controls fail me
Its still my favorite Starfox, even when the FPS drops to 2 over a 16x16 texture. The SuperFX was remarkable technology at the time. Including a 3D graphics accelerator at a consumer price built into your game, that's 90s era Nintendo for you.
Love how the ship keeps getting hit but those shields just don't flicker at all! 😂😂
good graphics for its time, but better game than star fox adventures.
+SupremeCoder yep when the snes didn't need addons unlike sega to do the same shit
+SamuraiTacos It did. It had a chip built in, just like Virtua Racing.
+NintendoComplete Big difference between a built in chip and a big chunky add on bub.
;
Deadpool And I completely agree with you, bub. However, I'm not referring to the 32X version. The Genesis version didn't require any special add-on, but it had a coprocessor unit built into its cartridge, just like Star Fox did. Bub.
I always loved the part on Level 1 - Stage 2 after the boss fight (around 10:01) when the camera rotates around the squadron and they warp out of the area . Was a really cool element for a 1993 game like that one.
That part at 17:00 totally blew me away back in 1993 because it was such an unexpected change from the linear gameplay.
One of the best games ever made ! Well I loved it when I was younger, And watching this has brought back some nice childhood memories :)
I love how dark this game feels for some reason.
This game was YEARS ahead of its time
I played this game when I was about 9 years old. 16 years later the game is still hard! Finished it though...
I don't own the original cartridge yet, but I did expertly beat this in the SNES Classic. Very fun, but challenging game. 64 balanced it out a bit. Looking back at the original Star Fox, the 3D graphics is clearly obsolete by today's standards, but for 1993, this was REVOLUTIONARY at the time! It feels like an arcade game!
you picked a good one. the soundtrack is as catchy as ever.
Wow, it'd be worth getting this game and playing it just for the graphics if nothing else. Very state-of-the-art for the time.
Love how the frame rate is so appalling but somehow adds to the unique style of it! Forgot how good the soundtrack was - an absolute gem of a game.
que juegazos los de antaño...
Still holds up to this day.
i agree with you completely. The snes games were like no other.
This will likely always be my favorite Star Fox game. I remember being disappointed with the 64 version when I played it.
Also Starfox 2 for the SNES should also be on the Nintendo Switch SNES Online who’s with me?
loved the sound effects and music especially the sound of engine
This is a level 1 playthrough
Stage 1:
Corneria
00:00
Go through all the arches after slippy said "hey look at me" to gain a laser power up.
The stand still blue ring appears right before the big thing in the sky appears. This will be your starting point.
Now let me tell you more about the rings:
Yellow ring: these will be delivered by enemies and they will tilt around. Its not too hard. Just aim and line yourself up for the rings when you see one.
Small blue rings: they will not be delivered by the enemies. But some levels have these. These are only available in certain stages. They will tilt.
Big blue rings: like the small blue rings, they won't be delivered by the enemies and they are stages checkpoint. But not all stages have these. They won't tilt.
Now some more juicy info about these rings:
they will heal you
They are your starting point in the stage.
Keep your line with the rings and you will go through one.
More about these lasers:
Level 1 laser: they will shoot slowly with 1 beam.
Level 2 laser: faster and 2 beams.
Level 3 laser: 2 beams becomes a circular beam and its faster too.
To get a laser power up, go through a double wing thing and it has a blue outline too.
Also if you lose a wing or a arwing, your laser drops to level 1. So watch out.
Extra arwings:
Now there are some arwing out there. If you see a 3 leg thing with a void in the center. Why is it empty you asked? Well shoot it until the arwing symbol appears and thats not finished. You still need to line yourself up with it to grab it.
Credits: to get more credits, gain a overall total to 100 to gain a credit. I think you get up to two.
The dive into stage 6 was awesome. They really made the most out of the 3d chip and what the SNES could handle.
Man I spent so much time playing this with my mates when I was young.
This game takes me back when I was a youngster because me and my brother use to own the real cartridge the time we use to own the super nes which is now gone but the game was not owned by ours it was borrowed by my brother's friend that's why my brother return it back to his friend. Besides the struggle my brother was able at completely the game but for me I didn't know how to play the game but years later my brother downloaded this game on my emulator and I played the game for the first time but struggle through it but I was able to beat game and see the ending but the fortuna nature planet I died alot in that level but otherwise I enjoy the game so thank you for uploading this video YEAH.
