My only issue with this segment is the idea that you need a fursuit to be a furry, at least it's heavily implied, a lot of people enjoy the art side of it, you can be a furry for free which should be obvious. I'm pretty surprised at how they went beyond the bare minimum and genuinely let them speak for themselves.
yes but chose MORE people than just 2, to really show we are not just the typical clichee gay type, like the red-haired one here. They also left out to say that we do not usually have sexual activities in our costumes and all =/
I’m glad furries are becoming understood more, but owning a fursuit isn’t a requirement. The furry fandom is full of artists, and writers, and dreamers, none of which necessarily have to have a fursuit. I don’t have one, and I still consider myself a furry. Great video tho! I loved it
Finally a media company who is correcting misconceptions instead of making them worse, most news pieces involving the furry community are negative so this is very refreshing to watch.
nice job, fox. after so many years in the fandom, it's nice to see an honest and unbiased report that isn't laced with misconceptions and prejudices. I almost cried after watching. you have no idea how much this means to so many of us in the community. a fursuit isn't required, and suiters only account for maybe 11% of the community. but still, it was a very nice and accurate report. thank you, from this old furry.
Local businesses celebrate furry conventions because all the tourism means money for the nearby businesses. Furries grow economies. There seem to be a bunch of scientists, ex or current military, and many gearheads(car enthusiasts/airplanes) It's very diverse. The most common thing I've heard from people that talk about playing a character in a fursuit is that it helps manage or even temporarily remove social anxiety. Many say it helps them be more outgoing and express a certain repressed part of their personalities. It's one of the most diverse and self-sufficient fandoms around because it takes generally from nature and fantasy and is not centered on a smaller piece of work such as other fandoms.
Same thing with other cosplay groups. Those guys will generate a lot of revenue for the local area when they come to town whether its the hotels they stay at or the restaurants they eat at.
Jesus Christ finally some positive news about furries. The last time that happened is I think the time Anthony Padilla did a thing of furries. Kinds funny how it came from FOX, hehe, my humor is broken
Wow, a news segment that actually did a reasonably good job of explaining furries. Definitely a pleasant change from the usual twist it is usually given. As others have pointed out however, owning a fursuit is NOT a requirement in any way.
When the lady says misunderstood fandom and goes on to say it’s a group of people who dress up as animals shows me she was just reading and watched and heard nothing. If she was present then I doubt she was in her mind. Less furs have fur suits then ones who do.
Saving a lot, and dedicating the time to take side jobs if you really need the money (also selling things on etsy and other similar platforms help too)
Oh we're contributing, Pig, take your hate to the monsters that abuse their animals, rather than aiming at the good majority that raise money for various charities and can give a better cosplay show that going to Disneyland can. :/ Seriously though, you're hatred is hella misplaced.
woah. a news station not slandering our name, or laughing at misfortune in the community!??? well thats nice to see! Of course there called 'fox', lol!
Whow good report. Thank You from California. I found the fandom a year ago and it has helped me open up to other's form my shines. A kind community with relevance, charity's and meeting events. Lo coved. Thanks again for being fair to us the furrys. :) P. S. I'm refereed to as a gray muzzle, over 50. lol
you know the thing is you don't really need a fursuit to be a furry I have a fox ears and tail and that's basically my character so yeah you don't really need that much
All these positive things duly noted, but just because some people do have a sexual aspect of the fandom, it's not a bad thing, just like there is nothing wrong with S&M, toys, vintage etc. These are just things that amplify sex which is a perfectly normal and healthy thing. Having an up factor can be attributed to saving relationships.
You don't really need a suit to be a furry. Although my only problem with the community are the toxic people. There are some REALLY toxic people and some degenerates too. I can think of a few people who I will never want to be in the same area but my friends just don't associate with them and have started doing our own thing and inviting other people who fall into the nerd category into our meetup group. Essentially we're trying to help and network with other groups to do events because furries tend to have hobbies that fall into other nerd culture groups so that we can build a better community together. However if you're going to be awful, you ain't welcome among us and we will gladly move on with our lives with you.
I was thinking the same thing, she actually was one of the two things that really got me into the Furry Fandom, that and the tiny ASMR thing, maybe The Click but that's kinda a stretch
Fox News made this one :) anyways though, this was widely needed. People just need to know that it isn’t a fetish and that we don’t thing we are animals.
Idk, I noticed that too. But it still gives out some good info anyways. But you definitely don’t need money to be in the fandom obv, so I guess they misaddressed that.
If you deny that there's sexual elements in the community you're lying, but no furries I know are openly into the nsfw slide of it, its like calling a nun outfit a kink thing when there's probably just as many if not more people that wear them religiously
My only issue with this segment is the idea that you need a fursuit to be a furry, at least it's heavily implied, a lot of people enjoy the art side of it, you can be a furry for free which should be obvious. Yeah, i can see why, but it's not required. You can still be your fursona in VR, such as VR Chat and NEOS VR (HMD Not Required, playable in Desktop)
I mean they do at least clarify at 0:54, which is better than most
It's stated in the actual community you just need to like anthropomorphic characters to be a furry
More news stations need to do stuff like this. It helps "normal" people see the other side of things

well shit, an actually unbiased and decently executed mainstream viewpoint into the fandom. never thought i'd see the day.

Just a small correction: you don’t really need any money at all to be a furry because you don’t need a fursuit to be one
I said this without looking at the comments I guess a lot of people agree with me
