What would you do? Keep one? Which one? Keep both?
Keep both.
I have the box as well as same period Sweet Caporal. Mine still have the cigs but no cards. They make great display pieces in vintage card displays. Not easy to find.
@@buffalobraves9 very cool!
Where did you happen to get these packs been wanting to get some for myself
@@nikkialford4072 hi Nikki, did you watch the video? I think I explained it all.
Very cool. Doesn't matter the comp . The box with og card is a heck of a story. Keep em together
Great point
Keep it all. Right down my alley, I would have purchased that right away. Congratulations on owning a rare piece of history. Love this stuff
Thanks Orlando! I hesitated but knew I had to have it.
Very interesting story, those boxes are so cool to keep with the card like this. It's just so unique that it crosses over into American history. Thanks for sharing Mike :)
The Rube Waddell portrait is on my list to acquire this year. Such a kooky dude
I’ll need to Google him to learn more
Wadell is one of the most interesting baseball stories
@@randymarsh6666 a funny and sad story. I’m going to read his biography
Dear Mike,
This is one of your biggest acquisitions yet! This video was fascinating and I love your passion for the T206 cards.
You are vitally important to the hobby at a time when breaks of brand new products are being done just for the ‘chase cards’.
Please never quit!
Best Wishes,
Peter
Thanks again!
Would keep both, but if you're gonna choose only one, I'd keep the pack. Low grade graded T206 cards are all over eBay for under $100, but I don't see the packs often.
Yeah, good call
I have several t-206's, but have never seen a pack. Awesome find !
Thanks Robert!
I know this is from a year ago but congrats on your first T206 card and the package is what is most desirable of the two.
Such a great find. One way or another, I would keep both and try to display them together. What a great story to go with them. If only that box and card could talk. I think you might regret selling the card down the road. Great video.
This is such a great point. As a storyteller, it would be a shame to sell away part of the story.
@@JunkWaxHero I like vintage cards and all kinds of antiques. When I find something really neat, I always wish it came with a complete history or story of where it has been, who owned it, etc. But, since we can not always get a complete story, I do always enjoy telling my part of the story, and how I came to own the item.
@@rickbingham3907 yes! Me too
Wow I think you got a steal. I would keep both and I would of bought that as well if I saw it only because of the box and card combo. Both are a part of history you got both worlds in your hands don't separate them. Mike don't do it lol.
This is a fair point
The color and condition of both are in very good condition. Just think when you show it off and their amazed by the box you tell them look into it and i think people would be more amazed at that. I would be ecstatic. Like I would be if I saw it maybe you were that way too when you saw. I'm I right lol.
Very cool purchase. I would keep them as a set and display them that way.
I am currently working on picking up the ten T206 cards that feature players from the Minneapolis Millers (8 cards) and the St Paul Saints (2 cards). I love the pre-war stuff.
Very cool
I would DEFINITELY keep them both together. Makes for a much better display and story. Everyone has access to/could buy a graded T206. They're not hard to find. The condition of the pack matches perfectly with the condition of the card. Great stuff!
Thanks Scott!
I would keep both, they belong together. I’ve just started adding some T206s to my collection. There are a lot of nice commons that don’t break the bank. Neat cards and a great piece of history.
Totally agree
The cigarette pack is really cool. Never seen that before.
I have a Germany Schaefer PSA 4. He's the reason why you can't steal from second base back to first base.
Interesting!
If the card is original to the pack, then you have to keep the history together. Awesome find.
That a cool item. I would display it on your shelf with either than card or another Piedmont back of a red Sox in the future. My guess is the card will get a 3 or 4 because of the rounded bottom right corner, but I'm no grading expert. I honestly like sending stuff in where grading adds value regardless of the grade.
Thanks Jason… I think I will display the pack. At some point I’ll have some office space for this stuff.
I would keep the box. I got my first T206 at my very first card show back in ‘75. The dealer had a bunch of them loose in a shoe box at 25 cents each. I did get two, Harry Davis and one that I don’t remember due to giving it to my brother and getting lost over the years. I still do have the Davis card. A few years ago I did finished the T206 Pirates’ team set minus the one obvious omission.
Nice!
I am not a smoker and collect baseball cards. While I was a history major in college, I have no interest in a cigarette box-- even though it was a vehicle to get a baseball card in the past. I am not a baseball memoribilia person but understand why people collect items that remind them of the past or are interesting to them. I would want the T-206 card and have a number of them in my collection.Again, I understand your interest in your purchase but the card is what I would want. Thanks for your video. I never had seen an original Piedmont box before.
Thanks John!
You are asking a question that is difficult to answer. I would without a doubt keep both of them. But if I had to choose, I would keep the box. I’m with you on it’s probable rarity. Such a cool combination to own. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing it with us. I do have a T206 Larry Doyle red background with the Piedmont back in an SGC 2. Beautiful card. I also have an ungraded Harry Armbruster with the Sovereign back. All because I wanted them. Too good to pass up.
Thanks Ken. I agree - I might keep both.
@@JunkWaxHero , I can’t blame you for wanting to get some money back, but keep them if you can afford to. What a decision to have to make.
Good job Don’s Sports Cards bringing out fun stuff to parade. Exotics are fun for all.
As kid along with dealer grandfather to antique toy shows, chatting and learning about the exotics and not for sale stuff made weekends go by fast. Recall a pair of steam toy and model specialist brothers that brought along some requests for following shows for me to check out.
Very cool!
Hope you kept both together. Love this
Keep the pack for sure, its rare you see those anywhere.
The card you could grade, but also don't know if that card came in that pack, could have just been placed in there, who knows but still so cool.
I have 2 Ty Cobb cards, bat off shoulder, red back ground.
Congrats on the find!!
Thanks James. Those Cobbs must be amazing!
I've had them since the early 70s
Just got them graded sgc 2 years ago, never graded before then. Thr red is a 3
Bat off is 2
Don't care about grades, just glad got them when I did.
Not sure if this is true, but I heard during the late 1800s-early 1900s that the idea of putting cards in the pre rolled cigarette packs is the reason people took to buying pre rolled as opposed to rolling their own. People were skeptical of letting other people roll their smokes, so the idea of getting free cards was enough of an incentive to try them.
That’s really interesting
Cards were issued as stiffeners to the packs in the early 1880's to protect cigarettes from squashing. Companies then hit on the idea to use the stiffener as advertisements and add subjects of interest to smokers. Beauties and personalities were amongst some of the early subject matter followed by a plethora of . Nothing to do with rolling your own as far as I know. No matter what the brand of cigarette or tobacco is, if the back has a factory number on it then it was issued by the American Tobacco Co.
I've never actually seen one of the packs before. I pictured them larger. But I guess it makes sense to be the same size as the cards. If you don't keep them together, I would definitely keep the pack and then get a piedmont card that you like to go with it. I prefer the T205s to the T206s. I'm collecting the New York Giants 205 team set to match a team photo that was in my father's hunting cabin
No way! You grabbed this! His whole setup was so cool on Sunday. Congrats on a great purchase.
Yes! Thank you!
Purchased my 1st T206 couple of months ago. I would keep both. There are only 6 horizontal T206’s so collecting all 6 would be a reasonable goal. I was actually looking at that same card on eBay and also thought it was paper loss until I saw that all of them looked like that. Congrats on a great card that is in great condition and a steal of a price in my opinion.
I didn’t realize only 6 were horizontal!
Good deal. I definelty want one of those packs for my pc. Or Sweet Caporal etc. You can always find a T206 card but those packs are becoming next to impossible to find.
I have a Harry Davis t206 Piedmont, similar player who also played for the Athletics. Thought he was a common for 20 years, then looked him up and see he was the home run leader 4 years in a row and received hall of fame votes. Dead-ball era was an interesting time.
It sure was
There was a dealer at a show,in the late 70's,that had a large number of those. Some had cards and others did not.I bought several. I also bought a lot of 300 of the cards.Mixed condition mostly commons but some semi-stars. I paid $300 for that group! This is before card collecting really took of around 1985.
Awesome!
I have 10 T206s. All of them are Reds. I acquired them when they were still relatively cheap back in the 2000s. 6 are from Piedmont, 2 are from Sweet Caporal and the other 2 are from Sovereign.
Awesome!
Keep them both. As a “collector” if I thought that was the card that actually came in the pack then that is truly a collectible. I think you got a hellavu deal.
Thanks Otto. It’s a good point.
@@JunkWaxHero And Murphy moved to the outfield to allow Eddie Collins play second and form the famous $100,000.00 infield. He has some history.
@@ottoolsen7640 fun fact!
Congratulations on your awesome purchase. I would prefer the card instead of the cigarette box. Great piece of history.
First vote for the card!
Hell of a score Mike! Grade the card, would love to follow that content!
You got it, Phil. Sending out soon.
@@JunkWaxHero LFG!!! I wanna see higher than a 4!
@@pdtowle79 haha that’s unlikely
@@JunkWaxHero it will still be super cool regardless of grade. Also curious of the pop report on a card like that.
@@pdtowle79 398 graded with PSA, with 2 graded an 8 and none higher than that.
I would keep the pack! That's the only one I've seen! It's so cool to have that! That's some history for sure!
Thanks Gary!
Great video, a cool story is I found a Danny Murphy autograph which is quite rare. I found one of Dannys last known relatives. So I sold it to him to add to his Murphy collection.
Very cool!
Love that!! Hope to add one to my collection when I go to the National this year!! Dave
Good luck!
My first time seeing the cig box… rare
Keep it
Nice! American, baseball, and tobacco history!
Yeah, really cool stuff
If you sell them, sell them together. They should be a package deal. Rare to have the THE card that came from THE pack. In my opinion. (collector since '83)
Very cool piece of history! Very fun 😁
If the card itself doesn't do it for you, find a nice Bill Carrigan Piedmont back to go with the box. He's from Lewiston, Maine. Perfect fit for your collection.
Oh and he played for the Red Sox.
And grade it with SGC. T206's look great in a tux.
All great points!
Keep them both! The card itself is 1909-1910. The box is 1910. You can tell by the tax stamp.
Yes - thanks!
Keep them both! I have several t206 and I would definitely keep them together.
Does the Factory number on the back of the card match the Factory number on the box? If so, the card could have come with the box.
I would grade the card and keep both items. Very cool Mike
I’m definitely leaning towards keeping both. Thanks Mike.
No doubt the pack is more rare. They were thrown away.
Congrats on the cool find and your first T206!
Thanks!
As a collector of the unopened who won’t pay 8k, I’d be happy to add this alternative to my collection. There’s one on eBay iin worse condition and no card. The seller is asking 825.00 or B.O. Well done JWH!
Edit: I do own one T206 card and it’s a PSA graded 4 and it looks to be in a little bit better condition than yours. My guess would be maybe a PSA 3?
Thanks!
If I had to choose, I'd get the pack
That’s where I am too
I have a few t206 cards personally I'd keep both but the box is my favorite. I've been looking for one for a while and yes I'm with you pretty hard to find. Congrats sweet pick up
Good luck!
Thanks for sharing, I watched intently. Good job
Awesome, thank you!
The box is cool. I've seen them in antique stores before without a card. I just don't remember what they were priced at. I'd find a way to display both together without grading just to show the card was in that pack.
This seems to be the prevailing thought, and now I’m leaning this way.
I think they’re cool as a set. If I had t pick one I’d pick the pack.
Keep both Mike, that would be one not to be broke up. I still would have bought the pin and pendant from him also. But yes that is so very cool.
I wish I could have had all of it!
The card, 99 out of 100 times
Where can I buy the original box Piedmont Cigarette Pack with a T206 card or Honus Wagner original baseball card. Do the sell anymore
I would search eBay but they’re not easy to find
I would keep both and give them to my kids ! Let them sell it if they need money down the road when I'm dead and gone.
If you look at the factory info you can tell if there was a possibility that it once held a T206. Here are the only 6 factories that could have T206's:
Factory 6 in Ohio
Factories 17 and 25 in Virginia
Factories 30 and 649 in New York
Factory 42 in North Carolina.
This is good info! I’m going to pull mine out later and see.
@@JunkWaxHero awesome look forward to seeing what you got! Just realized this video is a year old. Usually your newest videos pop up on my feed. Glad you still have it. I have several Piedmont and Sweet Cap packs from the t206 era that still have the cigarettes!
@@RJM1977 yeah I’ve been offered up to $600 for the pack alone but I like it too much. It stays in my safe now.
By Don's card shop you mean Maine? I used to go there a lot as a kid
@@youngharmon the one and only!
good deal!!! The card.
I display the box with my T206s very cool item
They should stay together with the raw card just sitting inside.
I like it as is. Would keep it with the box, ungraded!
Fair enough!
That's awesome great find.
Thanks 👍
Since the player holds no personal value, I'd sell it and buy one that does... One of my collecting goals this year is to add a Red Sox T206. - Either Bill. Carrigan or Fred Parent
Great goal!
That is really cool. The pack is amazing.
Agreed!
Did that card come from that pack of cigarettes or were they put together? If the card came from that pack they need to stay together. IMO
I agree, but there’s no way to know for sure
Keep both
Great collectable item there! I would never slab that card! If you're confident that is the original card that came in that pack. Display it, talk about it.. forever.
Thanks David!
Keep both it may increase by 1% each year trade for more card amount verse price
4:37 16 different brands, not 16 different cigarette brands. Some brands were not cigarettes.
Yes - good point!
Keep both! Don’t grade, keep it in it
Seems to be the consensus
Did you say you get these from Portland Oregon I live in Portland and I’m looking for stuff like this
Maine
The pack and I collect T-206 cards.
I'd say keep both. But if I had to choose? Pack.
Good call

“Red Back” 350 subjects on pack
What year might this be?
@@davedangelo6305 1909-1911?
Just ran across this vid and love all things T206. I believe that's a 1910 pack just from the blue "tax" tag saying 1910? NOT an expert either, but I have 164 T206s, yet no packs, so I would trade a few of my duplicates for 1, if I ever get the chance! Sorry for the delay in commenting and no reply required, as I find the larger channels hardly ever repond... even though they ask for comments. Haha. UA-cam algorithm stuff I presume. Enjoyed the vid! 👍
Thanks! I respond to most comments. What’s your best/favorite T206?
@@JunkWaxHero My best so far is a SGC 5 Sovereign Red Dooin Philadelphia, but my favorites are the horizontal cards. I have 4 or 5 of those. Most of mine are 1s, 2s and 3s and I love them. Anything above a 6 seems insane for a 110+ years old card!?? Who would have thought to preserve something that came in a ciggy pack, bag of bread etc? My uncle had them envelopes in a cigar box. Was fun opening those boxes, as I remember seeing these cards in the early 70s and he would hold them by the edges like the were fragile. Haha! Good memories! Appreciate the response and love the attic find vids. The card part of this collection wasn't in the attic or a secret, it was just put away since the 70s in cigar boxes. Two rooms full of books, mags, commerative plates etc.
@@CitizenX367 thanks. Yeah they’re not all attic finds but it’s easier to call the series that.
@@JunkWaxHero agreed. Amazing where they show up. I have taken to asking every old person I talk to if they have any old cards or know of anybody that does. No luck so far, but you never know.
@@CitizenX367 ha! Yeah I dream of discovering that my older neighbor, who rarely leaves his house, has a big vintage collection.
If I had the choice between one of the other, I’ll take the pack

Does it?
Its real. The color is correct, the paper and tax stamp are correct.
That was fun
