- I installed a Garmin GPSMAP 943xsv on my 2014 Chaparral 226 SSi Deluxe. I also installed a junction box, Clarion MW6, and Mercury Smartcraft components. I also installed a Garmin 19x HSV gps antenna on my unit and connected the unit to the Faria MG3000 gauges.

I’m getting ready to install one on my Chaparral Suncoast 210. How did you cut the plate to size to fit the Garmin?
I taped the template to the plate and used a jig saw with a metal blade on it. Quick easy work. My plate was aluminum.
Doesn't the GPSMAP display have a built in antenna ? if so why install another external antenna ? I had the 942xs on my last boat and it worked fine without anything else plugged into it.
It has one built in that works just fine. I already had the other gps antenna and wanted it further forward in the boat to more accurately read slow speed turns
Did your clarion stereo work with the Garmin 943xsv? What controls were on the Garmin? I am thinking about doing the same thing on my boat.
It’s mixed reviews. Clarion unit I have is a great unit. I installed the NMEA 2000 interface and it was a bust. I talked with Clarion customer support multiple times making sure all devices has the most updated software. Clarion used their same M608 and the Garmin 943 abs had same issues I did. It showed the unit on the Garmin but had no function. Clarion said it was a Garmin issue. They had me use a different dip switch sheeting for the M506 I think unit. It got a little better but wasn’t worth the money. Since then, there have been several Garmin updates. I haven’t put the Clarion NMEA 2000 interface back on the M608 dip switch settings yet to see if there is any improvement. It showed volume controls, source controls, pause/play, forward and back etc. Volume occasionally would adjust but didn’t show correct volume number.
@@sirmarcusandrew Ha, I was about to ask the same thing as Bartley. Sucks that it's finicky. Will it show what song/station is playing on the source?
Are you around Lake Norman, NC? I could use some help in exchange for a few drinks.
I’m in Arkansas.
Are you able to see the information from the gauges you removed still?
My tach gauge is a smart gauge and shows everything on it if I scroll on the mini LCD screen. And most of the information passes through to the Garmin now as well with the addition of the smart craft connect.
@@sirmarcusandrew that’s good to know! I found a used chaparral I want to buy that doesn’t have the garmin in the dash and you gave me some hope of it being possible to add. Might be a little over my head though lol
@@sirmarcusandrew does it show depth and water temperature from the factory Information or did you have to add something for that?
@@BradFizer my speedometer still showed depth like factory. I didn’t have a water temp prior. On the NMEA 2000 network I installed a new transducer (kept original also) that showed depth and water temp on the Garmin unit. I also used the NMEA0183 technology and sent gps speed out to the smart tach to show gps speed on speedometer with pitot as backup.
I have a faria mg3000 tach and used a 6pin deutsch connector and connected the tx 0183 from Garmin to rx0183 on tach.
Are the old gauges por sale?
No sir.
@@sirmarcusandrew thanks 👍🏻
Hello Marcus, Thanks for this very informative video. I am very interested when you said that you wanted to get all the SmartCraft features of you motor on the Garmin GPS. You said you would post a video but i have not been able to find it. I have a Sea Ray 260 Sundancer with SmartCraft gauge and i want to connect everything to the Garmin GPS 742XS Plus, but i am struggling as i am all new to this NMEA2000 network stuff, so i would need a tutor! Let me know, thanks for your time. Glen from Quebec City Canada
I am working on one. I had some issues I am sorting through. In this video I added the NMEA 2000 network to my boat. Off of one of the T’s I plugged in the Smartcraft Connect and plugged the other end into a blue data cable that I also added to plug into the engine with termination to get the engine data to the SmartCraft Connect and ultimately onto the Garmin unit.
Garmin 943xsv vs garmin 923xsv which is better,
It is the exact same unit. The only difference is having preloaded Bluechart G3 and Lakevu G3 maps. Right now it is the same price on Garmin.com so I would recommend the 943xsv.
@sirmarcusandrew thanks for telling me,
