We need some kind of internet safety training for older adults - perhaps in workplaces or something? - to prevent this from happening, because as a younger person who's grown up on the internet it feels obvious to me that these are scams, but clearly for some other people this isnt the case and we need to make sure theyre protected too !!!

It's shocking the ways people can be scammed. I work in banking and one of my colleagues had a customer who had some building work being done. A complete stranger in a van came up to the customer who is an elderly woman, and said she needed to pay him for the building work and she said she had no cash so he said he would take her to a cash point. She then got into this stranger's van and withdrew money for him. Thankfully he dropped her back home and nothing else happened. Please look out for your elderly family members.

Something similar happened to an elderly cousin of mine. Workmen gave her a price for clearing part of her garden, then said it would be more. She went to the bank and mentioned why she needed the money and the lady at the counter phoned the police straight away. The men were caught and taken to court.

Think about this. To be a Doctor, Lawyer, Accountant, Engineer, you have to spend years to get your qualification or Chartership to practice, then if you commit malpractice you are disbard from working as a qualified professional again.
Yet, anyone can give you financial advice or control your lifetime pension with little or no qualifications.
Why not introduce a new Chartership which takes years to qualify and then tell the country, only invest through these people.

    • @rafezetter8003

That's not even REMOTELY TRUE Actual REAL Financial Advisors are monitored and checked for "suitability" EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I was in the Financial services and my Father was as well for over 40 years AND WE BOTH HAD TO TAKE COMPLIANCE EXAMS EVERY YEAR TO CONTINUE TO BE ALLOWED TO PRACTISE. If we failed on ANY PART we were given a second chance within a month, if we failed again WE LOST OUR LICENCE.
You have NO IDEA what you're talking about.

Firstly, the advert is from 2017 so that would ring alarm bells too. I would question if the "deal" back then would even still be valid in 2023/2024. If it sounds too good to be true then it is. Unfortunately people just trust far too easily, rather than doing their own research. Also, the fact that she was too scared to tell her husband suggests that there was a part of her that knew something was not right about the whole thing.

I'm sorry but this is why women need to get the opinion of a man, in this case her husband, before doing these things. Nobody to blame but herself.

Yes but most people's grammar and spelling is worse than the scammers these days. I'm sick of seeing people using 'of' instead of 'have' etc.

I invest in crypto but I do it the right way. Use your own crypto wallet and use a reputable exchange. NEVER trust anyone in the crypto space and do your own research before investing in anything.
Crypto is a murky world that still needs a lot of regulations putting in place.

If you're married, you shouldn't feel scared to be honest no matter what it is. I understand the con man must have made her feel isolated and potentially used psychology if she was weak but don't lie to your man who you chose to be your husband or is your relationship even solid? Food for thought

This is why as a man I have full control of all household money, you can't just let a woman have free rein in this regard, maybe a little cash like £5 or so each week until she builds up trust, but all meaningful transactions must be approved by the man of the house or you end up with situations like this!

Financial currency spot markets are daily 24 hours casino operate legitimately however once you place a trade still takes your money. Your commodity broker of your side works with the institutional and major banks making sure that you are being stopped out once you place a protective stop orders.

If you really want to invest in crypto legitimately, how do you do it? Janet said do your own research but where do you do that? Online of course, where all the scammers are waiting for you. I'm interested but know nothing about it and when I try to 'research' I'm bombarded with all sorts of dodgy deals.
