- Oh boy, the new trailer for Batman Caped Crusader just dropped and it did not disappoint.
There's a load to talk about this trailer; we get a first look at Two-Face, Firebug, Barbara Gordon, and sneak peeks at Onomatopoeia, Gentleman Ghost, and The Penguin. Join me as I share my unscripted thoughts about the trailer and look at some of the highlights.

I love the fact that onomatopoeia was included. It will be cool to see a hitman with such a distinct idea around him.
I’m wondering how it will work outside comics because his whole thing is he’s a meta reference to the comic sound effect bubbles etc.

Onomatopoeia has got to be one of my favorite concepts for a villain, and I hope this show helps him appear in more than 2 comics
I'm curious how he'll work, since he was made to be a character that only can work in a comic world.
Maybe something with sound suppression/deafening attacks? The could be something...
@@jordanloux3883 he doesn't technically have powers. He's just a normal family man by day, and a silent assassin who mimics the sounds of the world around him in order to collect the masks of vigilantes for his secret trophy room by night. And I think that could really work for this type of world
I just had a thought. What if the person with the fist indent in their face is the scientist that made the Clayface formula, Preston Payne, not Basil Karlo?! 😮
Will he Melt People when he Touches them , if so then I'll watch the show
I'll add to that, what if the costar Basil is infatuated with happens to be named Sandra Fuller as another reference? I do think it's Payne, and I think he'll be a villain in a future season, possible under the name Cesspool, which is sometimes used to differentiate him from other Clayfaces.
Also, since this is the first Twoface with a scarred right half of his face, I think it's meant to symbolize his newfound empathy while the normal Harvey side is the bad one.

Harvey's rally looks HEAVILY inspired by a scene from Citizen Kane. I wonder if they'll be using that movie as inspiration for his character arc? Kane is a man who enters public life, but is ultimately destroyed by his demons, convinced he's standing up for 'the little guy' but actually enacting his own twisted power fantasies.
That is such a perfect combo honestly. Both of them have plenty in common, at least with recent versions of Two-face in media. Hell, this version of Harvey even looks a lot like a young Orson Welles.
The thing I really like about the design of Two-Face in this is that the face doesn't change exactly at the middle like all the others
I assume theyll rely more heavily on the personality split to get the point across. It's still better than Beware the Batman series where he has his whole face covered.
@@smittyjjensin558 This Two-Face has his face looked like a pitbull chewed on it. No discolored side of the face, bandaged face or changing of the voice. This Two Face appears to deploy torture and hell bent on blood-boiling revenge.
Honestly, I don't hate the design idea here since it's going for a more realistic depiction of an accident burn to the face, it's very hard to look at by how ugly it is... But that just might be the point, it teaches him humility and opens his eyes to the kind of damage he allowed others to suffer. I'm excited to see what this series has prepared for Two face and Harley Quinn considering how different they want to make them be from what were used to
The implication that the Two-Face design has flipped the physical scarring is brilliant. It’s the ‘normal’ side we can’t trust, the glamorous, chiselled public persona of the guy… the side we feel we SHOULD be able to trust!
The one thing missing was a look at Bruce Wayne, the man behind the mask (or is it the other way around?). I think it would have been interesting to see the difference between the two. Maybe a quick shot of Bruce in Dr. Quinzel's office during one of their therapy sessions.
Also interesting that the Gordons seem to be serving in the police together this time (provided the redhead was Barbara).
Yes, that is Barbara. I originally thought she might be Vicki Vale, but then an article was published on IGN that confirmed her identity

I always like when Batman media creates new designs for Two-Face’s scared side. I also realized they switched his normal side and scared side.
If Penguin does end up being a woman, I could see why. Le Monocle was a Parisian lesbian bar that was very popular, and butch lesbians who would wear monocles and dress up in men's suits. Le Monocle was open from the 1920s to the being closed during the occupation in WW2 which the timing would align fairly well

The biggest surprise to me is seeing Barbara on the force. More than the design changes to Two-Face (I hadn't caught the switching sides, neat), and more than the surprise of someone like Onomatopoeia. Babs as a cop is an interesting angle, but I wouldn't imagine Jim approving. But I guess he wouldn't stand in her way, would he? I hope their family dynamic is as touching as in BTAS.
I actually prefer Barbara being a cop. It makes it a LOT better when/if she becomes Batgirl than her being some kid Bruce is knowingly endangering. Here she's clearly an adult, so it improves her character trajectory in my opinion.

@@NitwitsWorld Yeah that's true, but she wasn't JUST a cop she was the Commissioner. And it was a zany comedy. She's been Commissioner a few times actually, but it's always been a later in life thing. I'm interested in seeing how a police career actually plays out, rather than as an afterthought at the end of her story to just become like her dad.

The sword fight is um, deeply inspired by the Errol Flynn/Basil Rathbone duel from The Adventures of Robin Hood

It looks almost 1-to-1. That film is burned into my brain. I'm experiencing multi-layered nostalgia.
They didn't use either of these in Robin Hood, but those swords are either rapiers (bladed edge) or foils (no blade, only point). I can't quite tell which in the image.
the smoke entering Alfred's mouth reminded of anyone else than the shade

I think the castle that Batman and Clayface are fighting in is a reference to his first appearance
Also, i hope the Mole appears in the second season since it seems like they're spotlighting some obscure Batman villains

I like how Clayface kind of looks like the Shadow with his coat and red scarf.

I can't see that character working outside of comic books. He seems very gimmicky for that specific medium.

I think it would be cool as the show progresses if Harvey's disfigurement got more and more discolored in a green tint. Hinting at the idea that the flesh is starting to rot

@@jihadx5307 I think you were right actually. Based on the eyeshape and dark hair, the character might be asain america. besides, they already have an asain Harley Quinn so it's possible they might make an asian Joker too.

As soon as Luke mentioned him I thought 'He kinda looks like a couple Joker designs...' and then he pointed out the purple hat band. Ooh, I'm gonna feel reeeal silly if we're just reading too much into this.

Onomatapeia's design in this is so good, I love the suit and overcoat look, whole retaining his classic mask. The voice is great, too. Sounds a hell of a lot more menacing that his somewhat silly gimmick would imply.
That unexpected glimpse of Ozzie has me hoping Ivy could be around the corner. 🤞
I hope poison ivy has more character than just bisexual.

This new Two-Face has a more Heavily Realistic design for his Disfigurement
Boy, did that brilliant trailer win me over. On a side note, Harvey's burnt half reminds me a bit of Lon Chaney's Phantom.
I'm really excited to see Two Face Harley Quinn and Penguin I hope penguin is not a woman personally I don't think they will do that I really love Harley's voice I'm wondering what the Riddler Poison ivy and Man-Bat would look like in this show lastly I bet that the joker's going to be teased at the end of the season! (hopefully as the Red Hood)
olympic fencing is done with foils, and there is also epee and sabre fencing which have different rules and use epees and sabres respectively.
Either way, Batman with swords is a gem!

Clayface being high a murderer and shapeshifter will be awesome
Seeing this version of Two-Face makes me think it's not Harvey Dent but a third Impostor, named George Blake who also had the wrong side of his face scarred. Maybe influenced by that comic Detective 187 - "The Double Crimes of Two-Face!" (George Blake)
Man, oh man! Have I got some great references to point out:
1) The big political rally shot of Harvey Dent with the large banner behind him. Definitely influenced by CITIZEN KANE.
2) The GCPD Headquarters seems to be a double tribute. Architectural nod to the BTAS Art Deco Police Headquarters. But look carefully, and you'll see a consumer influence. The front exterior almost resembles a 1940's floor model radio.
3) I feel like the Onomatopoeia character could be a future nod to 1966 Adam West Batman. Think about it... a character that verbally utters the sounds he's about to produce? Seems like a walking version of the psychedelic fight sequences where the punch sounds flash on camera like an.... Onomatopoeia!
4) Is it me, or does the acid scarred right side of Dent's face resemble the Frankenstein monster? I mean, Karloff has such a far-reaching influence on cinema and pop culture, right?❤

i think the guy with the blue flames is Clayface, because the outfit and it looked like a scarf covering the lower part of his face burns away.

You can see the hat is Ghost's tricorne hat, just tilted up
Question: my suspicion is that as the show goes on, we might see Two-Face devolve into a mentally-ill state, and that obsession with duality will evolve to a big reveal with the halfsies suit. Do you imagine that could be a possibility?

If the Penguin is a woman, I hope it's Addison Cobblepots (Oswald's daughter in the comics). It could even be a cool fake up with her brothers (Ethan, Aiden, Ignatius, ect...) with who took over daddy's criminal empire.
Maybe the brother is Onomatopoeia and doing the dirty work behind a mask and a weird gimmick so nobody ties it back to the family

I would love to see Prometheus in season 2 where he goes after Batman but he also has a vendetta against the other people involved in his parents death or who thinks involved in their deaths.

Hell yeah, I’m excited to see penguin, onomatopoeia, clayface and Harley in the show. I’d there is going to be more seasons for the show I think some new villains that would cool to see is deacon blackfire, mad hatter, scarecrow, firefly, and maybe professor pyg.❤️

Two-Face is very much Nolan inspired I think.
The animation style is like the last Adam West animations... Not sure how I feel about that.
Not really, because Nolan's Two-Face design was inspired by Tim Sale's design.
So far it looks great, very excited cause it has the potential to be the best animated series ever to me, not really keen on the new Two Face design but I'm pretty sure it'll be magistrally characterized and will play a big role in the series so that all of us BTAS TF lovers can overlook the new too simple design, can't wait for August 1st

Hard to tell from how zoomed out it is but i don't think those are rapiers.
Most people don't actually know what rapiers are and just call every pointy poke sword that
Real rapiers are just as heavy as any other sword and generally are among the longest 1 handed swords with a emphasis on thrusts but usually have some sort of cutting ability.
I thought that the sword fight looked as though it was between Batman and Onomatopoeia instead of Clayface, as Ono is dressed in full black and also has a hat.
Firebug kind of reminds of the Gotham TV Series's version of Firefly

I don’t think Nocturna was a vampire in the comics. Timm wanted to make her one on the show. It’s a little confusing because there was a big vampire storyline in the Batman comics around the time Nocturna first appeared, but it had nothing to do with her.

When I saw the trailer for The Caped Crusader, I almost flipped out because I love a good Batman Cartoon! Also Onomatopoeia is a villain in this show? Usually when I hear that word, it means sound but this should be interesting.🤩😮

The Two Face design is very similar to the Gotham Knights interpretation of the character. Very excited to see him and Penguin again🐧

Was not expecting Batman to have a lot of gadgets in the first season and female Penguin? Umm I still believe it's the male version because Tom Kenny is in the show and he usually voices The Penguin 🐧

@@calebray1834I think that is a great idea! Like the kingpin in the 90s spiderman cartoon when he had spiderman in a bear hug and was crushing him to death. Since up to that point we along with spiderman thought he was just fat but nope it was pure muscle!

I did not expect to see Onomatopoeia make an appearance..I am happy to see him but I wish creators would stop taling Green Arrow villains and turning them into Batman villains!
I have to be honest I am not a huge fan of the "realistic" take on dent. It just looks bland and not as memorable as his scarred appearance from BTAS. It is not example as to why I am tired of the "realistic " approach to Batman stories.
The actor for Bruce sounds good.
The designs look a little bland.
If they are using Firebug there is a chance they might use Rat catcher. At least I hope so.
Overall the trailer looked pretty decent.
The face looks neat to me, but I mourn the lack of the split suit. Two-Face thrives from having funky split suits.
I mean Arrow stole a lot of Batman’s villains this series only took one that we know of.

I guarantee the design of two face was something that matt reeves pitched. Especially considering his vision for the joker in the batman. I cant wait for this. Im honestly gonna buy prime just for this since max fumbled.

I wish it it had a Shirley Walker inspired Score , it reminds me of Frank Miller & David Mazzuchelli Batman Year One , I really like Harley Quinn design In motion. Thee Guy vocing Batman is definitely keeping in the Golden Age vibe .
I like the Old Timey Cars . Looking at it does make me think of why I got into BTAS as a Kid .
This might be as Good as X-Men 97, Firebug looks interesting that's a new character to me so that is something..

I'm surprised that Onompeua is in this show . I only know about this character from Kevin Smith's Green Arrow run I read in my teens ..
I kinda wish there was a little bit more Color in this series .so far this looks different from the original DCAU

Funny you mention the mobster shooting at Barbara being a potential candidate for the Joker, cause I’m pretty sure I saw a man baring a striking resemblance to “Jack” being decked in the face by Batman closer to the beginning of the trailer. It’s probably just the hooked nose but anything’s possible.
Would've said 8 episodes isn't a lot but we dont know the runtime of each episode yet
I think Clayface's appearances are just based on movie roles he might've played. The deformed appearance somewhat resembles Jonah Hex and the scientist resembles a generic mad science villain from the time

I'm surprised by some of the supernatural elements in this trailer since I thought the show was going to be a more grounded, gritty, noire type of thing given its setting in the 40's.
Seeing Onomotopeia made me think once people see this show they will think of him as a Batman villain rather than a Green Arrow villain. It has happened so many times in animation whenever Batman fights another heroes villains.
Like X-Men '97, I bet this series won't be for kids unlike Batman: TAS or other DCAU shows.
