Turning a 74hp engine into 500hp capable | All new Internals for the 3a92 | Road to 300hp Pt.5

  • Today you guys will finally get to see all the internal parts that I've spent over 3 months and thousands of dollars developing for the 3a92! The open deck block was sent to CNCWerx for a cylinder support system to be installed. This block modification is much better than a block guard or devcon block filler, the cylinder support system prevents the cylinders from deforming at Extreme Power levels. Everything for this little engine had to be custom built; Pauter rods, Traum Pistons, and the cylinder support system.

      What kind of suspension setup do you run? I'm looking at getting godspeed coils and ultra racing sway bars, as well as a bigger wheel setup. Not sure there are many other options.

      @@suiboy7284 I have competed the car on just lowering springs, but I recently have switched to BC coilovers and did some tuning, found out the 4k/2.4k rate that came with the coilovers are too soft for the track so I'm now running 8k f/4k r just so it can still be streetable. I did have to ditch the front swaybar as the front roll became too stiff and tend to push.
      Ultra racing bars, I have the front strut, front lower 4pt, rear lower 2pt torsion brace and rear sway. Wheel setup, 16x7 205/45's, around -2.5 camber front. Onboard vids on my channel, thanks ;)

    If only there was an 81mm bore version of this engine. Or rather, an 81mm bore of anything that had a common layout with DOHC and high flowing heads. Why, you ask? Because of the semi-solid cast 4AGE pistons available from Toyota which are a factory part that's good for 600hp in a 4AGE.
    The casting method ends up aligning the grain structure of the hypereutectic pistons very similarly to forging, so you end up getting the benefits of both cast AND forged pistons in the same unit. I figure you take that 600 and divide it by 4 to get ~150HP per piston, then multiply that by your piston count to get total potential "safe" output.
    For a 3-cyl application, that's obviously 450HP. All with no piston slap, little to no blow-by, and not having to warm it up with soft driving before romping on it.

    What did you do to handle the heat of the engine when closing the deck? I would imagine this limits the fluids capacity to cool this engine properly and I don't believe I have seen you mention how your temperature has changed after closing the deck or what you did you ever come the increase in heat if present.

      Great question, cncwerks does a great job of putting coolant passage holes in the same locations of the head gasket so it doesn't block any additional coolant passages. With my radiator i'm able to keep temps under 195F no matter how much boost i'm pushing

    If I hit up Traum for the pistons and Pauter for the rods and gave them your specs, would it be any cheaper now to have them made since they've done it before? Also, I don't do builds, but if I were to give my engine builder guy these parts -> block, pistons, rods, and bearings to do the build, would there be anything else he would need (using my same heads, and head gasket, I presume)? Next, if I only have this done and did not do anything else to the engine (like turbocharging) what ballpark hp would I expect? Finally, if I did put in a turbocharger which one would you recommend. If you've already answered any of these in the comments, let me know and I'll look harder. Thanks.

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  4 місяці тому

      Good questions. The purpose of doing the pistons, rods, bearings etc is for the engine to not come apart under power adders (supercharger/ turbo). If you were to do these mods without a power adder you'd actually loose HP because of the additional weight of the heavy duty parts. If you're looking for just some quick cheap power you can add a small turbo to the stock engine but I wouldn't exceed 10psi on the stock engine. Yes I successfully ran more without any mods but that's a gamble and if it's a daily you risk damaging it. If it's just for fun run it up more 😁

    I have a question. I'm about to get a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage and the engine they have in it is a 3a90 I believe. Would this fit and if not could I do what you're doing to this one to that? It's 74hp as well. Would this effect its gass efficiency? It's like 39mpg combined and I want the power/speed. I just don't want to lose that sweet mpg. Sorry if I sound stupid. I'm new to all this

    • @DirtGearTv
      @DirtGearTv  8 місяців тому

      A 2020 should be a 3a92 that's the 1.2L mitsu uses in the mirage. A 3a90 is just a 1.0l version but i've never hear of one used in a mirage. So yes you can certainly do what I did by adding a little boost. A small turbo with 7-10psi the stock 3a92 should be able to handle that power level. Mpg would stay the same if you're driving it like 74hp, if you use boost and drive it faster than stock mpg will drop 👍
