I think this is one of the greatest compositions of the 20th century. That sounds like hyperbole but hooooooly shit. The cavernous half-reggae beat turns into darkness turns into tri-fucking-umphant rock and roll. This particular rendition has some inspired improvisation and interplay between piano and guitar. The guitar player does some excellent shredding at the end. I can't believe I got to hear these guys live just 3 weeks ago. What a show... what a fuckin show. Immaculate sound, performances, and while I don't know how it would be possible everyone there was 10x as pumped as me and that's my _church_, man. Music praising the glory and wonder of our existence that makes a person feel more connected with their fellow human and the universe. You can feel good about Hood.
I am glad you enjoyed this version. I find it to be in the top 3. It has all the components that make an incredible Hood. A great intro, beautiful improv and a fantastic peak. I even hear some "Ooh Child" teases in there. Please share it, this version does not get enough love.
Too long ago to remember specific songs/jams but I'm sure I fully agree with you! I saw every show there. Climbed up the fire escape ladder and snuck in a few times. Good (vague) memories.

@@dphunk87 you got me, too, and I consider myself a connoisseur of the song. To me there's nothing better than a good Hood peak. I would have sworn I had heard every soundboard Hood out there, but I was wrong, would have remembered this. Definitely a good one. My all-time favorite, though, is the one from Walnut Creek '97 (7/22/1997, yeah, the show they released as a DVD with the giant storm during Taste), which is also criminally not included on the .net Jam Chart for the song. His trio in Asheville in 99 at Thomas Wolfe was agreeably slick nasty perfection. First set acoustic and electric for set 2 plus encore, if I remember correctly. It’s hard for me to find videos of that tour. Any help would be appreciated. I have found a UA-cam of his rendition of The Chicken and man are they locked in tight as a band and the unbridled energy Trey possessed at this time was immeasurable along with his willingness to constantly tour with Phish or the trio. Also, rest in peace Tony, your flow on The Way I Fell I opened countless doors for me
@j eliot Idk, maybe the similar music and jam styles, along with phish being influenced by the grateful dead and jerry’s work. People talk about Jerry a lot man he was a great musician. Also why the hell are you on this video if phish sucks and “forget jerry”?😂😂
@j eliot because the Grateful Dead came up with the idea of improvising live shows to connect with fans instead of playing carefully rehearsed sets to sell albums, then Phish took that idea and put their own spin on it. It'd be like a manufacturing plant thanking Henry Ford for the assembly line.
This was a FREEBIE !!!! earth day at CC in an area between a series of buildings and coincidentally during an off week during the GD's fabled spring tour there was actually a pretty decent sized crowd ! And it was as tighr as I personally had ever heard them

Great Hood for sure, thanks for sharing. Doesn't come close to 4/10/94, 11/12/94, 12/31/93 for me... or even massive ones like 7/1/95. Super awesome Hood though at a free show on a Colorado campus... sick

This is a great early version, but the 10-23-94 (A Live One) is still the best imo. I know most Heads will never admit simply because it's on A Live One, but that version is a miracle in music. In fact pretty much every show from 93-94 is at a level that is pretty much untouchable in the jamband scene. Goose is about the only thing approaching those heights.

Can’t exactly tell it’s not them by the clothes either!
Pretty sure this is from when they covered quadrophenia and were impersonating the who
