“Sometimes I want to play and not have to build shit…” 🤣 love it
If I had a Switch, I would definitely be playing the game... Now, I'm waiting for the re-release.
@@bowi1332 Started playing it on PC 2 weeks ago. Starting over in switch tonight!
Fortunatelly the devs thought about that and as with all those new mechanics, they get easier to use the further you go so you have that "eureka" moment, like when you get the high jump boots in metroid games, "now i can use this new mechanic on those old hard mechanics ones so they are much better than before". hard to describe the game flow without spoiling. Just know that it just keeps getting better.
That's immediately what I thought as soon as I saw a building mechanic that somewhat resembles manipulating a 3D model in Creo. I just want to play the game and not spend all this time crafting stuff.
@@mattb9664 You know, when I saw cooking in BOTW, a small part of me knew that BOTW would not be "my" traditional Zelda... I should have listened to tha little voice before buying a full-equipped Switch at launch... 😓
Now I know... If Nintendo is marketing crafting, that's because they spent a lot of development time on this feature when they could have done something else appealing to me.
Great game, surely; Just not for me.
If you fly with the glider while its raining u can hear raindrops falling on it , its a neat detail. The exploring is so much fun. Much more life and ppl u met while exploring, love it

People seem to forget that Breath of the Wild was a Wii U game. Tears of the Kingdom is the first original Switch Zelda game.

Yes. Thats why I'm so excited. The Switch has been treated really poorly by Nintendo. Now it get's it's first own Zelda mainline game.
I hope much more will follow, such as Mario Kart.
@@svr5423 I can’t see us getting another Mario Kart. Let’s be honest Mario Kart is always pretty similar and every console only needs one. They will probably just save it for the next system.
@@fersnake I just got done playing BotW leading up to this and I can confirm TotK objectively looks better
@@jacobjb Yes, but the Switch didn't get it's own Mario Kart, and MK8 is already 10 years old. It would be a great opportunity for Nintendo to make money.
We had a similar situation were you could play the Mario Kart Wii on the Wii U, but Nintendo decided to release MK8 anyway.
And of course, Double Dash was a GC title and it also ran on the Wii. Didn't stop Nintendo from releasing it's own Mario Kart Wii title.
I'm a bit frustrated that the Switch doesn't get much love from Nintendo, despite its success.
Even from someone who's not really into Zelda, I'm just so happy to see the fanbase enjoy a solid new release. It's refreshing to see after the trend of duds coming out.
This “trend of duds” cant be referring to this series, is it?
@@Ryan-Bell Not at all, I meant AAA gaming at large. I respect the Zelda franchise for each game being solid, complete and stable at launch and beyond. I should really get into it, but I'm a perma FPS Junkie.

Haha! I walked on the rail too. In any other game they would have made you slide right off or something, but the game world all feels so tangible. It's awesome.
You can actually fuse a mine cart to your shield and grind on the rails that way, like a tony hawk game, this game is crazy

How is it innovative?
@geesehoward7261 one of the few games that gives you endless ways to solve a puzzle. It does not try to force you into one solution.
@dark_winter8238 that's the problem with it as too many mechanisms break the puzzle difficulty

Pro-tip: You can shield slide on all the different types of rails. Also, fusing various gadgets to your shield will let you use those gadgets. IE - Fusing a rocket will let you blast off sky high when you hold shield.
I've used the rocket shield so much. I specifically bought like 30 rockets just for the times you can't use ascend to get up a cliff.

they really went above and beyond on this one. i can not remember having had so much fun in a videogame in the past decade or so.
Its sad that the only games we can really look forward to anymore are the ones made by underfunded Indie devs that don't get as much love as they deserve, considering Indie devs are what gaming in it hay day used to be

Glad you mentioned the audio. The environmental sounds paired with that improved soundtrack gives me eargasms, especially on headphones.
Found my way into the depths a few times now. First time was intentional as the story kind of pushes you in that direction (you also have to go to the depths at least once to unlock the camera which is needed for some quest). Second time was a dumb mistake, I saw a well and jumped in without saving. In hindsight it was obvious since the well was surrounded by gloom. Third time was intentional as it's needed to get past the lost woods (as far as I know, it may be possible to come in from above). The depths are a bit scary at times though they don't get my heart racing like E.M.M.I. zones did in Metroid Dread (I actually waited to get TotK until after finally beating the final boss of Dread which I was stuck on for a long while).
You’re on point in regards to the audio design. Sounds like you’re in a movie theater even just playing with ear buds
It sounds great on Sennheiser HD600 headphones.
I would love to see the overclocking video.
let's hope the switch follow up will help this game reach the 60 fps
Or native 1080p without any image reconstruction tech...
Given the is no evidence of them making a new switch yet I wouldnt be holding my breath.
Nintendo definitely is more resilient to leaks but a Switch 2 will be big news. If it was anywhere near close to release, ie within a year, it would be known.
Sooner or later it will run on PC. Only a matter of time!
60 fps is unimportant. We have the best gameplay here; no need for Nintendo to allocate resources to anything other than gameplay. That fps stuff is what kids care about.
Lol, glad I'm not the only one that balance walks the rails. It was one of the first things I tested when discovering a hook rail. Activating ultrahand makes it easy to control Link as he walks the rails.
This game is everything that BotW was and so much more on top. I’ve been playing for 70 hours now and feel like I’ve only just scratched the surface. It’ll probably take me at least another 70 hours to finish and I’m absolutely fine with that. This is one of the rare games where the big open world formula does not feel like a grind. IMO, from everything I’ve played this year, this is the game of the year, no doubt.
Don't forget Breath of the Wild was game developed for the WiiU. The game was announced to release in 2015 and was already in development back in 2013 but Nintendo was good at fool people to believe it was a new game. So this is the first Zelda game developed with the Switch in mind
But what is with Link's Awakening

Just curious -- what systems do you suppose they used in the development of this game? In other words, PCs running Windows (or Linux), Macs, etc. I have written a good bit of software in the past, but have no idea how Switch development actually works. It would be really awesome to see a video covering a Switch development environment, typical hardware and software used, etc.
The Nintendo marketplace accepts indie games, so I'm sure there's a dev kit you can get to make games for switch.
Lest we forget the Switch is ultimately just a fancy nvidia tegra so its a glorified Android tablet.
there is a whole gdc talk about botw
We're playing totally different... I've been underground but I haven't even seen the dungeon that you beat, or Kakariko village. That's pretty awesome
Watched this while I waited for the patch to install before my first play. So excited and glad to know it runs pretty consistent right now.
Oc on the mem cpu and gpu has cleared up alot of my frame dips. You have a hacked exista or mariko? Cause that'll make a diff
The switch isn't meant to be OC'd though, otherwise Nintendo would have allowed it out of the box. You shouldn't have to JailBreak your console to make the game run well, and it's not even clear what's even causing the frame dips since the art direction isn't a particularly realistic one, it shouldn't be so demanding unless the optimization is just bunk.
@@blunderingfool you oc it in handheld to the levels it self OCs to in docked. so your assertion it isnt meant to be oced is wrong on its face. since its lower rez than docked you get better perf. best to do while plugged in if you wanna go ham but you can just do slight tweaks that dont destroy battery time to just get it more stable. if you have a hacked switch, im not sure why youd argue against it. pssst its free real-estate

I like the fact that you already had completed one temple and never got to the Underground, when you could get to the underground from the point where you was told where to go for the Temple(right after getting the paraglider), by going a bit south. That really shows how the game experience changes completely based on the player. I for one probably played more than you did at the time you were recording the video but still am not near going to a temple, but I did explore a bunch of the underground and sky already.

I plugged my Schiit Fulla into my Switch and I've just been completely immersed in this game. It's just incredible!
I would absolutely love to see that video!
YES, overclocking video PLEASE! :)
My only point to the intro about Bayonetta 3 and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet is those aren't first party developed games, sure Nintendo are the publisher and I'm sure they sent employees over to help development, but those games don't represent how good the performance of every first party developed Nintendo game for the Switch is, that's why I wasnt nervous about Totk at all!
Give it time.
Would absolutely love to see an overclock vid on the hacked switch, looking forward to the next vid and keep up the great content! :)
My opinion is controversial but i don't care what others think.
That new ultrahand and fuse gimmick is such a buzzkill for me. I DO NOT LIKE crafting and after 5 hours i stopped playing.
Framerate is not stable it always dips whenever you use abilities in crowded areas. It's simply hurt my brain. I tolerated first game since it's something fresh but after i experienced 144fps on my pc i simply cannot back to 30fps games. Wish i had newer gaming pc so i could emulate at higher fps
But pretty sure millions of people gonna love it have fun~
I'm here for the overclock
I’m so glad this game came out. My daughter is 17 and I’ve been wanting to play a game with her that we could try and beat together. And this game is perfect, especially when trying to figure out some of how to beat a shrine.
The only time I got the feeling I was playing botw was exploring eastern hebra and the empty feeling of walking through the snow. Everything else felt completely different. Every single town is completely different, the desert is different, the forests are completely different. Everything is different
I became lost in the sky island ... had to restart!... Its that big! Also I flew to places in the wrong order wasted a few hours as you can't do things eg your can get to shrines 4 as you're 2nd shrine... 😂
The shrines are less mini dungeons, as in botw, but rather short game tutorials.
At some point you will realise you leave the starting island with a crazy amount of capabilities.
I found myself groaning every time I entered a shrine. They just always felt like a chore breaking up the absolute freedom you had in the overworld.
The game is absolutely gorgeous. Just got through the intro section and was delighted at all the new abilities.
Dude, your t-shirt is EPIC EPIC EPIC!!! and a great video!
Bro! When you get so thing! Nicely done.
A masterpiece that can barely run at 30fps… okaaaaay… I’m sure the gameplay is there but it just makes sense to wait until Nintendo releases this on their next console. IF you have that patience. I’m sure a lot of you don’t and that’s okay too.
Yeah, I’m only about three hours in but this is amazing.
Overclock video please !! Always so interesting. Quick question if you don’t overclock to max CPU clock how do you do to not loose the max overclock loading that N is applying ?
this changed my perspective on the game ty
The visuals were definitely the first thing I noticed as I watched my wife boot it up for the first time. I was skeptical of my own eyes at first, thinking BotW probably looked the same. But the more I looked the more I realized just how much sharper everything looked. Nintendo employs some true wizards.
Fun fact about how the game looks, apparently from what I've heard Totk runs off of the same engine that Splatoon 3 runs on, which if true is fascinating
What do you mean "grind" referring to shrines? Those shrines were the only real tastes of classic zelda puzzle solving and one of the stronger parts of BOTW despite their shortcomings imo. I want more puzzles and dungeons and keys to unravel. This isnt really selling me on $69 retail at all yet
They were boring as shit. Nothing close to OG dungeons.

I don't know if it is my TV or not, but this game looks beatiful on a 65" 4K display. FSR is a God send
OC testing would be fun to watch 😊
I wouldn't call it a justification, but I've played Zelda 1, ALttP, and OoT all on original hardware recently in anticipation of ToTK, and I noticed that they have those framrate drops, too, especially when things get busy on screen. (Of course, OoT also only ran at 20 fps anyway). It's almost a Zelda tradition at this point; Zelda titles seem to have always pushed Nintendo's hardware to its limits. High framerates are nice, but it goes to show that they're not everything. (Not saying I wouldn't love for Zelda games to launch at 60 fps like alttp did, lol).
Windwaker was a perfect 60FPS on the cube. Though TP pushed it hard enough.
@wishus knight Both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are locked at 30FPS. Twilight Princess does suffer from slowdown in a few spots though. The reason Wind Waker feels so smooth is due to immaculate frame pacing, but it is locked to 30FPS. There's a 60FPS hack out there, but it causes the game to crash during the boss rush in Ganon's Tower.
@@wishusknight3009 it was 30 fps.
@@GANONdork123 oh... Ok that makes sense i spose. I was going by memory when it was outputting 460p60 on its digital out. I assumed the game did so as well.
Fun Fact: Skyward Sword HD is the first & only 3D Zelda running at 60fps (officially). 30fps & lower framerates in general are a norm for the series.
To me this is a great game so far about 15 hours in, a great sequel to BOTW. If Im judging right theres 100 plus hours, I have almost 200 hrs into BOTW and if this game has that much to give its epic.
I will say that a common complaint that I and a lot of others have is the frame drops, I know that these guys are wizards for even getting a game of this size working and running properly on the switch, but again its beating at a dead horse, but the frame drops in the game range from bad to awful, and it isn't even just in certain areas, I think because of the increase in the amount of NPCs and what you are doinh different from the first game, its running the poor Switch to the ground cause the hardware is just barely managing the fact that the game is running 10x more then the first
This game looks awsome. I hope play it someday.
As long as the frame rate drops do not last as long as in MGS 3D (which I suffered through, even in boss fights), I think I can live with them.
@@StoneTheCr0w I game as much on PC/Steam Deck as I do Switch (or more, depending on what I want to play), but sure. I am obviously coping.
Not saying I like it. Just saying that dealing with a few brief frame drops is a whole lot more bearable than entire boss fights where it is sub-20. I am more willing to accept weaker performance on weaker hardware than on stronger hardware. On PC, anything less than 60 is unacceptable.
I hope they don't get too comfortable with this style of game. One of the things I enjoy about Zelda as a whole is that many games are very unique on look and play to the rest.
TotK (and Age of Calamity to a lesser extent) will likely be the only games in the BotW timeline considering how long it took to make TotK.
Hope the next Zelda game will have a brand new timeline.
I love this open world style Zelda, but I hope we'll also get old-school top-down Zelda games (like Link's Awakening) or something like Ocarina. Also when it comes to art style, yes, variety would be cool. I really enjoyed Wind Waker's style but Twilight Princess's style looks nice too. For me, Wind Waker's style is the most interesting.
yea it branches in t a lot of genres
I think this is more of a one time type of thing. They already put so much work into the tech and world of BOTW and still had many ideas leftover that they wanted to use.
Not to say they'll never do the open world concept again, but next time it'll probably be very different.
@ I would bet on some top down Zelda titles in future, probably outsourced instead of developed by the Zelda team, but the OOT style of game seems over. we got five games from that formula and the devs seem to have moved on and feel too constrained by it, especially considering the mixed fan reception of Skyward Sword.
Emulation of switch is amesing right now. On good pc you can get 60 FPS with mod
Good video :) I missed botw but I’m ready to jump into this one day 1 😈
I'm waiting for my physical copy to arrive, but I'm really looking forward to playing Zelda again =)
Even though it’s not the Zelda I remember, I still liked BoTW a lot. They put a lot of work into it which made it immersive

DETAILED HANDS ON TOTK REVIEW:
FORCED MINECRAFT:
All I wanted to do was play Zelda, but instead was forced to play Minecraft. Building boats and all sorts of vehicles. This was NEVER part of Zelda and is as far from it's roots as one can get. If I were the boss at Nintendo, heads would roll over this BS!
GRAPHICS SUCK:
Visuals are extremely washed out and blan. No excuse for this.
FPS IS TERRIBLE:
The frames stagger like crazy in many areas, and even the best areas are still only so so.
CHILDISH CRAP:
The fusion and gluing things together makes me feel like I'm back in pre-school in arts & craft class, playing with crap just to see what happens. It was fun in class, but we're not in 2nd grade anymore.
DIFFICULTY TOO MUCH:
No way to change difficulty settings, this is a game breaker! In the beginning of the game, things will 2 hit you into an early grave. TOTK is trying to be Minecraft, Dark Souls and Zelda all at once.
WEAPON BREAKING:
3 hits on an enemy and my stick broke...THREE HITS! Nintendo needs to learn from Elder Scrolls 4 which did it right. It had weapons degrading also, but was OVER TIME, and they could be repaired. This 2 hit BS is the worst use of the weapon degrading system, out of all the games that ever used it in... GAMING HISTORY!
BORING AS HELL:
Playing for 3hrs now and I'm bored to tears. Building vehicles, gluing logs, walking around...sigh. Would rather watch paint dry. Would rather burn my feet with a match! Or fall of the top of 6ft step ladder.
SHRINES...YAWN:
Here we go again. Tons of shrines that's the same room, just different puzzles. The same look over & over until you vomit!
SAME BORING MAP:
Once I got down from the sky...yep...found myself in the same damn map as BOTW! I already walked all over this huge monstrosity of ''emptiness'' once before, for dozens of hours. Now back again. I'll find a tree for Link to sleep under, then go find myself a game with some content!
CONCLUSION:
After taking into account everything wrong with this Zelda wanna-be/Dark Souls/Minecraft... cannot figure out what it is game, it's only worth about $5 and should be in the bargain ben! And every once in a while drop it on sale for 99 cents.
FINAL SCORE: 1 OUT OF 10
