NFL Draft 2024 rankings: Analyzing top six QB prospects | Chris Simms Unbuttoned | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - Спорт
The craziest thing would be if they all became franchise QBS
I can't trust a kid who cries on TV for no reason and paints his nails. And it sounds like the rest are not really thar good, so chances are slim.
New drinking game. Take a shot every time Chris Simms says “right”.
Right!
i wouldnt try it. i f u want to live.
Right you are. Right?🥴
Right!
Great content, thank you for all the work going into the analysis and the good wise summary. Really appreciate the insights and clear concise comments from a guy who knows what he is talking about.
I remember the year he had Zach Wilson as his #1.
Considering how bad that class is, Zach still has the best arm. I think he was fair to place him there
@@tonyrenghini6273Arm Strength is not what makes a good QB, what about processing, pocket presence and accuracy .. he was not right to place Wilson @ 1 whatsoever.
@@jeanraphael60 and he literally had all of that at BYU 😂😂 we talk about why he didn’t work in the NFL this far but all that stuff was on film
@@tonyrenghini6273 no he did not; what hell are you talking about man, his arm talent and play extension ability was his main highlight point to scouts. He was slightly above average in all the processing and accuracy and even that was against G5 level competition at the time.
Shoot us your list and let's compare it to his list in a year
Any guesses how many times he says "right"? Would've tried counting but lost my mind after 5 minutes.
who cares
It happens every year where teams talk themselves out of a QB and he falls into someone’s lap and the guy ends up being great. A bit shocked Drake Maye seems like he’s going to be that guy this year. Chris would know far better than a lot of people and he’s been right on MOST of his QB evaluation over the years, but Maye as the 6th best QB in this class?! Really?!
I can watch Simms anymore because half his sentences end in “right”.
Is he right?😂😂😂
I KNOW RIGHT?
He really does have poor communication for somebody who does this as a job
If JJ goes to a team that runs the rock, he's going to be very good.
That reminds me of, "As long as they put enough talent around LeBron, he can lwin a title." 😅
A lot of commenters don't pay enough attention to the difference between a mock draft and a prospect ranking. Simms is just giving you his personal rankings based on how he reads the tape and skillset, with an ample amount of details and examples. He is not guaranteeing the order they'll get drafted, how they're going to be developed as a pro, or what situation they're going to land in in the NFL. The whole idea of "wrong" vs "right" is overly simplistic unless you think he doesn't know what he's seeing on tape. I think he has one of the important voices in all the draft media noise, much of which is made up of groupthink takes.
Best in the business
Chris Simms' love of big arms usually makes him wrong about QBs
What's your list look like? A year from now, will you be more correct than him?
I can't. He thought Zack Wilson was better than Trevor lol
Shut up about that already. Look what he did on CJ stroud last year or josh Allen and mahomes in the draft. He was spot on about them. So yea you hit some you miss some
@@adamsgaming6265Maye 5th ?
@@adamsgaming6265 0:56 legit is maYe tho 😂😂 and Disney have two top 2024 wr talents
You're really gonna hold on to one wrong compared to all of the times he is right? 🤣😂🤣 Holy crap people these days.
@@bringthenoyz@adamsgaming6265
Wrong!
it wasn't just Zach Wilson...
It gets worse.
He ALSO had Trubisky ahead of Mahomes! He said Mahomes was a late 1st/Early 2nd rd QB...
Look it up..
.
Drake Maye deep balls to Justin Jefferson will be a thing of beauty 🤩
Im shocked Simms has Drake Maye ai 6 3 maybe, but 6?
As a Bears fan, I definitely hope the Vikings draft Drake Maye.
@@Craigers22763I agree with Simms. Everything he said about Maye is spot on.
I rank 1. Caleb Williams, 2. Jayden Daniels, 3. JJ McCarthy, 4. Michael Penix, 5. Drake May
So, kid who cries and paints his nails, kid who can't throw across the middle, guy who's talent we have to assume, guy who gets injured almost every season, and latest over rated UNC QB. 😅
Listening to chris simms describe a qb is like listening to a six year old. " throws like a machine and makes bulls-eye throws. In the pocket woah kinda throws."
What about Caleb wanting to make the big play when WR open short
I think question is about Nix is if someone actually takes him in the second round. I don't think falls out of Day 2......but he might.
I think you don't know football if you think he doesn't go round 1. There are so many QB needy teams, he probably won't go bast pick 10.
@@reggaerockhe went 12th
as i vikings fan i want jayden daniels. our o line is always a problem, and Culpepper is still my all time favorite viking qb
Why would you spoil the rankings like that
Right?
Give us this long list of quarterbacks everyone foolishly passed on who ended up great.
Remember when Simms would rank Tom Brady as like the 5th or 10th best quarterback in the NFL every year in his rankings? This honestly makes me like Drake Maye a little more…
Right
I think people are highly ranking + inflating every qb imo …idk about Bo nix man 🤦♂️ I like pennix Daniels if they stay injury prone
It’s not a perfect science. Look at Brock Purdy. I will be curious at who got it right. 4 years from now. We shall see.
I’m also curious at who of the 6-10 QBs will outperform the top 5.
Obviously top 5
Caleb
Jayden
Drake
JJ
Nix.
Mahomes openly says he has trouble with consistent mechanics and he has had some success 😂
Simms also had Mahomes #1 in his draft qb rankings that year. PFF and a lot of other trusted experts had either Trubisky or Kizer.
😂 Right.....
You had Trubisky over Mahomes in 2017...and said he should be a late 1st/2nd rd pick.
You also said Zach Wilson was better than Trevor Lawrence..
You would've be fired..lol
He also had Lamar as best QB he with 32
Definitely never put Trubusky over Mahomes
@@campscudder2541 The Difference between me and you...Is I have video evidence and you're clueless..lol
@@jameshollister8294 Thinking Trubisky is better than Mahomes and comparing him to Paxton Lynch means you're not a special talent evaluator...Then when you factor in Zach Wilson over Lawrence...we might be dealing with a dummy...lol
@@NICEisNICETrevor Lawrence is better than Zach Wilson, but he's really not very good. Lawrence is almost identical to Mac Jones except with a FAR better supporting cast. Lawrence is a bust
JJ Midcarthy 😂
Chris, I lovveee watching you and you’re becoming a great commentator. But you HAVE to clean up the “Right” and “okay”. They’re filler words and completely unnecessary. They distract and actually take away from your amazing points and perspective! Please, please, work on it. Your takes will be even hotter. Elevate!
remember, folks, chances are only two out of the six quarterbacks will be good and maybe a third will have his few years of shine.
I don’t always trust Simms favorite guys, but when he points out flaws, they normally matter. I think I didn’t like Maye already but now I think I’m off him.
What sort of parameters are we using to claim 1/3 of them will be heard from at all by 2026?
RIGHT 😂
I like Chris Sims. he seems to know what he is talking about for the most part but when you rank Justin Fields ahead of Lamar Jackson, as a running quarterback, you lose almost all of that credence with me. Lamar Jackson is clearly, undoubtedly the best running quarterback in the NFL bar none.
Right…
I hope Steelers can get Mcarthy or Nix to learn from Russ
This aged well
We can still add another qb in the draft. We got 4 inside the top 100 and if we can get Nix we should take him
I'd take Penix over Bonix is given the choice. JJ will be gone early.
What is there to learn from Russ?
If this guy says "right" one more time..😬😫
How in any universe is Justin Fields a better runner than Lamar Jackson
mine
@@dodu8281 ah yes, the Mayor of Stupidtown
He’s pretty sensational. Not sure I could pick.
Watch the highlight reel sir
Lamar is obviously far superior as an overall player but there is no doubt Fields is a better runner
CW!!!!! GO BEARS!!!!! BTFD
They have a shortage of QBs who cry and paint their nails? 😅
Rattler will bite a lot of asses.
Hes trash, He cant even go through his progressions. Just stares 1 WR down
Better than the pillows Williams bites.😅
im sorry, Fields is a better running QB than Jackson?
Not a chance. I stopped watching after that comment.
His entire analysis is delusional and more than likely false after that statement 😂
Worrying about who's a better runner is worrying about the wrong thing.
Penix going to Minnesota at 11th overall, will be only QB in this draft besides Daniel’s that will win games in the NFL.. Every other QB has glaring holes whether it’s the programs or competition. Happens every year where basic QBs get way overhyped. Hilarious how it happens every single freaking year..
I'll be keeping this receipt. Penix can't even stay healthy in college, let alone the bigs, , Caleb Williams is a baller, Bo Nix is definitely above average and winnable, JJ may depend on where he goes.
Dude anyone who thinks NFL defenses will let a guy who paints his nails beat them is pure delusion. Caleb Williams will get the Zach Wilson treatment HARD lol and Bo Nix is a back up just as is JJ it’s not even funny how overhyped they are. Same things were said about Christian Ponder lmao “strong arm” “he’s smart” “he can run if he has to” but what was the one thing he couldn’t do was lead.. JJ, Bo, and Caleb can’t and won’t lead in the NFL. I like Drake maye however lol
Also Penix was healthy the last two years
So well ignore that Daniels can't throw over the middle and that Penix gets injured almost every season. THOSE things aren't cause for concern. 😅
@@cobbler88 we’ll see
Bro wtf is up with him his ranking is off and saying fields is better then Lamar running smoking to many Js my friend
When he said "2nd best running QB" I thought "oh wow, he put him right behind Jackson"
As a RUNNER there is no doubt Justin Fields is a little better. As a QB Lamar is WAYY better than
I don't think Simms is the only human who could see Fields as possibly a better or more dangerous runner than Jackson, or at least that they are close. Different running styles, different career trajectory, different ages. Jackson has a deeper body of work, but they're in the same echelon, in 2023-2024.
Caleb Williams will not be as great as you think. It’s easier to be a playmaker surrounded by playmakers. Caleb had a plethora of high talent receivers.
I had to go back and check this after seeing his WR video today. Top two WR's in the draft from LSU and Jayden Daniels is #2? Kind of makes you think. Obviously nobody knows where people will go or how they'll turn out, but it is certainly interesting.
@@Torso6131Buroow had Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson
My QB Rankings
1. Caleb Williams
2. Drake Maye
3. Michael Penix
4. Jayden Daniels
5. Bo Nix
6. JJ McCarthy
The Drake Maye fall and Daniels rise seem like media inventions.
Scouts have been watching these guys for year(s), they aren't all of the sudden making decisions because "woah I didn't realize Maye was inconsistent"
Simms was right about CJ Stroud (So were a lot of people), but he was very wrong about the rest of his picks last year.
I personally like Penix as 2 this year if he didn't have injury concerns, Caleb is obvious 1. (And I want Joe Milton on my Colts as a back-up)
Someone who trained for the combine this year with Penix said he was running 4.4 4.5. He can run. His only thing is he is injury prone.
Remember this is lying season for scouts talking about players how they feel with scouts for other teams ,😮😅😅😊
Penix bro… Penix has no consistent mechanics and health scares. Yeah he whips it but they don’t work in the nfl without clean fundamentals first
Mechanics is something that can be developed thru repetitive practice routines. Medical health is something that has to be evaluated by each teams medical staff and a decision made.
@@jamesabc372 yup and that’s the kinda of guy you use a day 2 pick on because he’s gotta sit and learn and develop he’s not a starter
Penix jr more like a tom Brady thrower. Throwing before receiver brakes open. I think he can work under center with those big "mitts" of his.😮😅😊 And I think he will show he can move in the pocket and throw his proday.😮😅
Hot take! Bo Nix is a bust. Called here first. My philosophy is never to draft a 28 year old, no matter what! For real tho he’s a bust. His 77% completion percentage came at a bottom 5 in the NCAA in yards per attempt. 6.9 I believe. In college. He’s a bust. Nothing special athletically or with his arm or mind. He’s the definition of average. I guarantee it
He just turned 24 a few days ago, Daniel’s and Penix are the same age! I think jj McCarthy will struggle, his throws at the combine sucked!
Penix will be 24 in May, Daniel’s will be 24 in December. These 3 are all old, but experienced qbs.
I think Daniels will be broken in two by an angry defensive end and Penix will never get through a year without injury. He was horrid in the championship game!
@@attilasuto6013nah Nix is good. Passed the eye test for me.
@@jaredpribyl I never said he is not good, he is excellent with short timely passes, actually I defended him and said that he isn’t 28 like mrbezl stated. My only worry with him is his arm strength.
@@attilasuto6013 I meant to reply to that other guy who said Nix is a bust, my bad.
Who are the busts? Usually the national champion who gets elevated or the guy who gets picked cause of his measurables. (Mccarthy and Maye). I think best careers will be williams, daniels, and nix. Wiliams is elite at multiple things, Daniels an elite athlete, and Nix is the most accurate passer. Nix feels like a faster Brock Purdy. Nix would thrive with a team like the vikings with elite route running wide receivers who are in the right place at the right time.
Oh my God this got to be the most annoying guy I’ve ever seen
Drake Maye is QB 1 in the class. Protects the ball, throws over the middle, stands in pocket, makes NFL throws. He just is
2 - Caleb, still a stud but too mistake happy, too much like Carson wentz?
3 - JJ, super start potential, but raw. Worth the swing
4 - Bo Nix NFL ready but might cap out at like Kirk cousins dal Prescott level, not bad not a star
5 - Jayden Daniels, need to see a run first qb win before he’s going top 3. Y’all love Lamar, I’ll take Pat and three chizzies
6 - Penix too many mechanical flaws and medical flags
Run first QB?? He had 4k passing yards and 40 passing tds.
@@Sdizzle7 ok and he had 2 top 15 picks at wr fuck I coulda had at least 2k with those guys and I’m no where near a good qb
@@Sdizzle7I like Jayden Daniels but he's a run first quarterback bro
“Drake Maye protects the ball” but had more ints than everyone on the list except Penix😂 gthoh😂 if you see Wentz when watching Caleb than you should see Daniel Jones when watching Maye😂 L take up n down
@@MrBond-tv1eu I didn’t say I see wentz, u said maybe his fumbles will be an issue like the became for wentz. Look at the team maye was on vs the team Penix or Daniels or nix were on, even usc was far superior to UNC. Jj’s team won the national championship, unc was garbage, no one but maye from that team is getting drafted high. So yeah, let’s scout the player and not the stat. I’ll be back when I’m right in a year to remind you of your terrible take. Ty
Uhhhhh….
Bo nix to raiders
Man I can’t wait for how big of a bust Caleb is going to be. Sorry on him, and it’s not really because of him… it’s because he’s going to the bears… he’s doomed lol
He also cries and paints his nails. I agree he'll be a bust.
I'm not buying much of this. Having watched many of these guys this last year I would say many are going to struggle. Everyone's presumed no. 1, Caleb Williams did not beat ANY good teams last year. He struggles against the better teams. JJMc didn't need to do much last year, playing with that Michigan team and almost all his success came against some very mediocre teams in the Big 10. He beat Washington for the national title, but he hasn't faced what he'll see in the NFL. Bo Nix struggled against good competition also. I would put my money on Jayden Daniels and especially on MIchael Penix.
Maye played terrible against Virginia and Nc state.. Caleb had one bad game his entire career you guys group the fake news along with your bias opinions to knocked Williams for whatever reason but he is the best qb college has seen in years.. 72-10 td int ratio proves that goofy
Williams had no one on his team, besides himself there won’t be anyone selected in the first or second round in this draft from USC. There are 2 players projected to be drafted in the third round. That team was horrid. A historically bead USC defense and a subpar oline with mediocre receivers. The kid still improved his pass percentage by 3 points. Not bad considering.
Jayden Daniel’s was a 6 year qb, the first 5 years he was average at best. The last year he broke out with 2 first round talents in the receiver group, he also had a solid oline and really good defense. I think he’ll struggle in the NFL, because the team he’ll go to won’t have enough talent on it for him to succeed for years!
Maye didn't have the best team around him either.
@@ryerob4815 yeah, you are right, Caleb and Drake had crappy teams, while the other 4 qbs coming out had studs everywhere! I think those 4 will struggle in the league. I don’t get why McCarthy is shooting up on the board, I saw his combine, his throws sucked! Nix and Penix threw the ball well, the rest are backups at best. Obviously the top 3 qbs didn’t participate. I have this feeling that Maye and Williams will be excellent NFL qbs and Bo Nix might be really good as well. Daniels will be broken in half by an angry edge rusher, Penix is fragile, jj McCarthy needs 3 years behind a starter to learn.
I can't believe this man has a career as a commentator. He is very poorly spoken, and his points are less than enlightening, to put it mildly. Nepotism, anyone?
Right?
