Hi Tom. Everything certainly has changed in St Helier over the years. The Mayfair and Metropole were used a lot by Holiday companies . I remember, as I'm sure you do king street in the 80s at night, the shops open till late The street performers . And believe it or not we often bumped into a neighbour or friend from just up the road .👍 Jewellery shops busy. I got a few rings💍 in St Helier... Still have them 😊 and pearls which I still wear on occasion.. They were great times I have to say . I wish we could re live a few holidays from the 80s and 90s in Jersey... Wow I'm reminiscing now. Jersey pottery.. The fantastic tropical gardens where we got our passports stamped going from country to country and weeks of endless hot weather.. The best days .... I think it's the miserable weather here today that's making me a bit glum.. Anyway on a happier note my grandson completed his 7 before 7 climb yesterday for pancreatic C and raised over 3k pounds . It was a great day 👏👏👏 Anyway... Enough.. Keep up the wonderful videos you guys. See you soon.. Christine ☘️☘️
Hi Christine, yes, King and Queen streets were buzzing in the 80s! The Jersey Pottery restaurant at Gorey was great and the Bistro Rocque. The Bistro Frere was another good one. All gone! I don't think I ever went to the Fantastic Tropical Gardens, but I do remember the weeks of endless hot weather (what happened to that?). A massive congratulations to your grandson! What an achievement and for such a good cause! You must be very proud of him! 🚶🏼♂️➡️🗻🗻🗻🗻🗻🗻🗻🚶🏼♂️➡️👍🏼
@thereluctantoutdoorsman I got Jersey pottery too . Yes I don't like to use the word proud but we certainly are. He's a wee super trooper and all before he turns 7 Thanks Tom ☘️
All has changed in king St Tom, the three you mentioned with us no longer. Do you remember the sunshine bakery on the corner of queen St and the hot bread shop behind queen St. I see my last of work in Jersey before we left the Island isn’t there anymore on the corner of La Motte St. The Royal bank of Scotland branch that I worked for four years. This is like a trip down memory lane, there used to be car sales next to the Apollo hotel with a couple of guy’s who looked like but maybe they won’t, Arthur Daily types. Our friends have said to us that this part of town is unrecognizable. We will find out for ourselves as we’ve booked eight nights at the end of May next year. It will be our first visit for nine years. Cheers for the tour 🏌🏻♂️& 🐕🦺
Hi Nic, now you mention it, I remember the car sales place. I'm a massive Arthur Daley fan, although "her indoors" could never understand why! 😂🤣 I remember the Hot Bread Shop, but funnily enough cannot picture the Sunshine Bakery (although the name rings a bell!). I'm sure you'll have a blast next year heading back down memory lane! 👍🏼
So much has changed even since we first visited in 2012. Sometimes change is a good thing but certainly not seeing shops closing. We learnt about the Boots family from the audio history on Le Petit Train 😊
Thanks Jean, global warming seems to be kicking in.......November 3rd. and we have only had the heating on twice, for one hour only on each occasion! ☀️😎👍🏼😁
Hello Tom! Wonderful videos! I'm fresh back from another visit to your lovely Island. such beautiful weather the last week of October allowed for many fantastic walks! Some following your videos. I always get to king street and the shops. It was so interesting to read about the Boots family and island connection. Will be looking forward to some winter Walking my next trip in January!
Hi Robert, I'm so glad that you got lucky with the weather for your visit. There were some spectacular days indeed! Who knows........maybe January will be kind as well! Keep on walking! 🚶🏼♂️➡️👍🏼😁
Hi tom ,a lovely walk around jersey nice to see boots the chemist . Still there sadly in UK many are closing.we have been to the glass church .St Matthews the widow of the boots chemist com visioned extensive renovation to that church ,for which reme lalique the famous glass maker designed and made the excellent glass ware. It's a must see ,thanks for this walk around tom.
Hi Brian, I did not know that the Glass church was connected to Boots. Thanks for letting us know - very interesting. The FB Fields (a major sports venue in Jersey) has a similar connection. I suspect all retail is skating on thin ice nowadays with virtually everything being available online!
Hi Matey so much has changed since I last walked along here some 8 years ago this will be on my next visit and go to Lilys Thai Shop. All is well my end and hopefully yours too👍👍👍
Hi Lloyd, started my dental today after my bridge fell apart.............4 hours in the chair and plenty more to come! Glad to hear you are doing well mate. I'll buy you a beer in Lilly's next time you are over! 🍻😁👍🏼
@thereluctantoutdoorsman Angie will be just giving you soup for a bit after all the treatment but you will look good after all the pain and suffering, just hope you don't end up looking like Simon Cowell😁😁 or Shane McGowan out of the Pougues band 🤓 Got to look good for tv interviews and attending State of Jersey parliament 😊😊👍 Have a nice mug of coffee and relax 👍
