I think I'm glad I have an older truck. I don't want a vehicle that might think I'm in a slide, I will know when it happens unless I'm dead and then I won't care. As for the BMS I think it stands for Battery Management System which is what won't let you pull the battery down so far it won't start the vehicle. It measures the amps in and out. Keep the good stuff coming Kenny.
"if this were my own car, I wouldn't care" - spoken like a true tinkerer! I remember when CD players first came out when I was in college in the early 1980's. My best friend managed to acquire an expensive one from Japan (probably cost around $500 - his dad's co-worker bought it and brought it back for him) and we were so excited to try it out. But we found it would skip a track when we played an CD on it! Within 5 minutes it was in parts on his kitchen table. His mom walked in on us and almost had a heart attack! (yes, we found some flashing on a plastic gear that needed to be trimmed off). When it's your stuff, you want to know how it works, and fix it if it doesn't!
Not long after you did the first video on this scanner I bought it with discounts at a great price. I'm just a DIY'er so I appreciate the added tips & lessons on using it. Love all your vids!
I checked out this scanner on the internet and found it for approximately $140. Also, I found that the S 800 for approximately $170 and it has 15 resets or so it says. I thinking about getting the S800. Thanks for the product review. Manufacturers are putting so many warning lights on the Display panel and some don't tell you how to reset the warnings. The King Bolen S600 and S800 scanners seem to be a good choices for the shade tree Mechanic. Again, Many thanks for the review.
I work at a Ford Dealer, and have encountered so many Ford OBD jumpers that don't work with Ford scan tools lol. We still have to unplug em and bypass them.
BMS (Battery Management System) is for vehicles with complicated 'add on' systems linked to the battery like 'Stop/Start' setups and electronics where the vehicle needs to be 'Told' there is a new battery installed. I think BMS may also possibly be for Electric and Hybrid cars as it is a voltage and amp management software.
Thanks for this helpful information, i was able to find order a new one for a very good price, i really appreciate your honest opinion and i thank you for this,
I own a xtool d8 and you can remote into it with a cell phone, tablet and i believe a pc. This allows you to use the scanner remotely, you plug the scanner in as usual but can control it with another device essentially making it wireless. I don't know if this is available on other scanners or not. Thanks for all the informative videos
Here is some tips and clues! I know it is a pain to get the shifter out of all the plastic console! But in the past I have used electric contact cleaner when I removed a shifter that had soda run into the shifter? Once out Spray the contact connector with cleaner and allow it to dry out? It may take more then one try? But the Mother in laws car is still running after five years? My kids soda spilled into shifter! It has now worked on three different cars from Jeep, Honda and Toyota? Just get shifter out and spray ONLY electric contact cleaner which is plastic safe!
BMS = Battery Monitoring System. When you replace a battery, you should reset the battery monitoring system. The charging system adapts to the battery. Allows for smart charging systems. Some cars will have issues if you change a battery without resetting the BMS. Especially German cars etc. Stop/start systems depend on it as well.
I try to do what I can in my driveway, I remember replacing a rear diff cover on my father's 06 Silverado. The cover came in bare metal so I painted it amc green since it was all I had at the time. Unfortunately at some point my step mom accidentally knocked over the drain bucket I had and spilled rear diff fluid all over the driveway.
This is Mrs Wrenching aka your step mom. This made me & your dad laugh out loud! One question though...why was the gear oil sitting in the driveway? JK We love you 🔧❤️🔧
Hey Kenny i am a big Fan, like your no nonsense way of working, have a question on the scanner you have the kingbolen, want to know if you can program keys with it. Hope to hear from you soon
Bidirectional scan tools are slowly coming down in price - for me, even as a home garage guy, its been worth the extra to get that additional level of capability.
Mr Kenny Is the SAS function the same as an EPS function(electronic power steering) My 06 malibu has a bad power steering torque sensor. I can replace it but I'm being told it needs recalibrated. Will SAS recalibrate it?
I learned nothing. Fumbling around with it for sixteen minutes wasted my time. It's no different than any other scanner for its price range. Sorry, I'm not impressed.
Waste of time for this old man and weekend machanic. You lose me when you get into most of the system abreviations. Just want to know wat is wrong and what it takes to fix a problem. Probably good for pro mechanic.
Disappointing video. When you. figure out what exactly you want to show us post another video please. Bumbling though your first experience with this instument on this vehicle is mire painful than informative. I gave up on it at 7:30.

Just bought one last week. Very nice.

So true. Your story reminds me so much of our son. If something broke, he would HAVE TO take it apart. Thanks for sharing. Keep wrenching 🔧
It used to take a lot more than a cup of coffee to destroy a Jeep shifter...

I got the 800 series for about the same price on sale absolutely worth the money it also lets you check all sensors with graphics

I just ordered a YOUCANIC scanner. It supposedly does really good bi-directional operations for my older Mercedes.
Let me know how it works for you. Keep wrenching 🔧

I completely had a brain fart in that one. Thank you for reminding me. Keep wrenching 🔧
Well you better tell them, you need a 12' Cord, But like you said, the other scanner does twice as much,🤷🤷,

Looks like an OK scanner for te price. Thanks for the honest review which is hard to get now days 👍
Is bms the reset if battery is replaced?
BMS Battery Management System? Something like that mess GM does where it varies the charging?
Yes. I had a brain fart. It varies the charging rate depending on the battery's needs. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧

The tool that make you connect to internet initially to work drives me bonkers.
I feel your pain on that one my friend! Thanks for watching 🔧
Hey Kenny think you could do a small video of tips on the install of that shifter? Mostly on taking interior bits apart 🍻
If the Jeep is still there tomorrow, I will make a video to show how to service it. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧
BMS = Battery Management System
Does this scanner do the oil pressure, fuel pressure, odometer or speed? Thanks for the scanner inside view.
If the car has that parameter available, then yes, the scanner will show it. Thanks for watching 🔧
BMS battery managment system
Can it do key fobs?
Sometimes it's a gamble of breaking stuff, to learn how it works. I don't get terribly upset when I do break something, as long as it is my own.
I'm the same way. Keep wrenching 🔧
Thats why i hate the electronic shifters
Were you backing completely out or does that thing need to find the particular vehicle everytime you go to a different function?
No it stays in the same vehicle. I'm still learning the scanner. Thanks for watching 🔧
BMS= battery monitor system?
Yeah, I saw that also on the upper right hand side of the scanner.....
Bidirectional scan tools are slowly coming down in price - for me, even as a home garage guy, its been worth the extra to get that additional level of capability.
I cant even imagine trying to work on a car without a bidirectional scanner. I have been running one for 10+ years.
Agree, we have 7 cars between 2000 and 2013. Bi-directional scanner is a must! I also agree that the cable isn't long enough, but we make it work!
I absolutely agree with you. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧
This scanner model shows MUCH cheaper on eBay.. js!
No kidding
Interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks for watching 🔧
A handy tool..
Mr Kenny
Is the SAS function the same as an EPS function(electronic power steering)
My 06 malibu has a bad power steering torque sensor. I can replace it but I'm being told it needs recalibrated. Will SAS recalibrate it?
I believe it will. There is an older video of me doing that repair about a year ago. Keep wrenching 🔧

Thank you sir. I appreciate the response 👍🏼
Does this scanner reset the electric parking brake to allow pad and rotor removal?
Great question. I will look check into it. Thanks for watching 🔧
Yes, The scanner can do this function.
Can you buy a obd2 extension lead ?
Yes
Amazon sells generic obd2 extension cables. They're pretty long tho
EBay has them,I bought one for my launch
Thanks M8

Would it do f350 diesel ford trucks
I ordered the launch crp 123xscanner tool got discounted to 144 bucks + tax I think it's all I need but was245 bucks,so we'll see what it can do
This tool doesn't seem very user friendly, I don't think I will be going out and buying this until the software gets a lot better.
I'm still learning how to use the 'functions'. Thanks for watching 🔧
Unfortunately that is not how a scanner works.
Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧

I think bms is for electric cars to balance the batteries.
Ken! Can you pull back electric E brakes?
Good question. I will look into it & maybe make a video. Thanks for watching. Keep wrenching 🔧
@@WrenchingWithKenny Please do! Waiting on the purchase to see if it does
