  • The first of five aerobatic demonstrations of the CF-18 Hornet for the 2023 airshow season was held at the Alberta International Airshow!
    Captain Jesse "Modem" Haggart-Smith put on quite the show! It looked like he was having way too much fun up there! Thanks for keeping the burners lit!
    Looking forward to big things at this event in the future! Thanks to them for a great time! Check out the website here: albertainternationalairshow.com/

    The Tac demos are a cool idea and all and understand the reason for it, but this is the Hornet demo we all know and love. Hope they bring that back next season for the centennial year and onward.

      CF-18 Hornet is still a very slick and a classy looking aircraft still after all these years!!! The only concern I have is the integrity of the
      CF-18's airframe!!!

    I was at the Cleveland Air Show at least 5 or 6 years ago. The RCAF CF-18 demo team performed in at a show in Canada, ranked up over the lake, brought the tanker with them for a few passes, then put on a demo that equaled the USN Super Hornet demo.

    Good work Erikson, I just came across this video and I had no clue that there would be a youtube post about this. During the CF-18's overfly of the airport spectators when it started climbing, I actually managed to get a good recording of it passing by directly overhead, along with my current pfp being from this airshow.
    Good work!

      Nice! I've got lots of videos on the channel from past airshows. And still working on editing more from this year's shows! Thanks for checking out the video and nice work with the pfp!

    ❤❤❤❤Kanada war die einzige Nation die in Deutschland die Cfa18 Hornet zeigte, und das im Tiefflug. Ich habe diese Maschine noch nie mit eigenen Augen gesehen. Sie ist nicht nur ein hervorragend entwickeltes Trägerflugzeug,sondern lange Zeit der Star der Blue Angels ❤❤❤ .

    wow. seeing them up close taxiing down the runway, they are really starting to show their age! Almost hard to believe that the first time I saw them fly I was only 10 years old, and they were brand new (red deer airshow '82) Will agree with below, the acrobatic demo is way more entertaining the the tac demo (unless you add pyro !!! LOL) BUT, the one thing we did get to see in the tac demo was him breaking the sound barrier on his last high speed pass!

    • @EricksonAviationMedia
      @EricksonAviationMedia  11 місяців тому +2

      Ya, this one is especially dirty. Hate to break it to you, but he didn't break the sound barrier. I think they get up to around 0.95 Mach on the high speed passes. If he broke the sound barrier, the entire audience would be in immense pain from ruptured ear drums following a sonic boom that close. Probably some broken windows too.

    • @djteako
      @djteako 11 місяців тому

      @@EricksonAviationMedia yeah I know they aren't allowed to break sound barrier anymore, but he did at the red deer show, on his last high speed pass, heading south towards penhold. He was well past the airport when suddenly ... The telltail small puff of white around the cockpit area and the slight boom that followed. He was pretty much over penhold when it happened and lots of residents reported hearing it!!!! It was the Sunday show.

    i wonder why they never do a sonicboom at the Alberta Airshow... maybe they did in Cold Lake?😊

    • @EricksonAviationMedia
      @EricksonAviationMedia  11 місяців тому

      I believe there are regulations that prevent sonic booms from being conducted over land. Cold Lake doesn't do them either. Possibly during intercepts, but definitely not at airshows.

      @@EricksonAviationMedia oh yeah true, that makes total sense...👍🏼

    • @F18YT
      @F18YT 9 місяців тому

      To clarify, aircraft are restricted from going Mach 1.0+ over land unless during wartime to prevent damage to housing from the constant stream of sonic booms unless told to do so otherwise outside of wartime. However, they maxed out here at Mach 0.97 during this airshow which is still extremely fast, but if the pilot was told to go Mach 1.0 everyone would be blown away to say the least.

    Don't say that this jet is ugly and boring. It's the no.2 best classic after F-4. Looks like F-104 and F-5. Sometimes return to classics has the strongest result.

    • @pixelnazgul
      @pixelnazgul 4 місяці тому +1

      The engines are stronger than on F-14, the airframe is lighter than F-14, the frontal arrea is smaller than on F-15, the intake drag is smaller than on F-15. People don't understand it yet, but it's a bigger legend than F-16.

    Reading this comments is unreal, so much bs is said. The whole spotting scene isnt what it used to be. Internet spotting and false information being spread is the new spotting. Where are the times you would stand beside the runway. FM/AM scanner, binoculair, photocamera, and a serials numbers book. Thatts all it took. I bet 75% of the people here dont even know what im talking about 😂

    With 70 jets and 20 tanks, Canada can surely win any war! Stingy mooches.
