    I love how it seems that he has to continuously reaffirm to himself that the D. gigantea skull actually exists and is actually the size that it is.

    Great information and i like your toughts on sociality comparisons, only thing is brown hyeans live in family groups almost like wolf packs and striped hyenas live in smaller family groups.

    You may or may not know this but the word 'crocuta' has evolved a lot - from Greek 'krokotas', meaning a strange beast that could mimic human speech (probably the spotted hyena and it's laugh) up to the French 'croquer' - as in to crunch or snap. Nowadays in French 'croquer' also means 'to snack' or 'to nibble' but looking at that beast, well, it would deal with you Sergei, at 1.67 metres I believe you said, in about a bite and a half.

      "Dino" means terrible in Latin, not sure about the second part though

    • @armata_strigoi_0
      @armata_strigoi_0 2 роки тому +1

      @@saturatedcranium Crocuta is the genus name of the spotted hyena, but it's derived from crocotta, which was a mythological (you could say cryptozoological, at the time) animal that almost certainly described the striped hyena. I don't think the root of the word crocotta itself is known.
      So, Dinocrocuta gigantea means "giant terrible hyena".

    And some people still think, that a Kangal dog might beat a hyena! Nonsense! If modern day spotted hyenas are stronger than domestic dogs, then imagine what this Dinocrocuta would have done to a Kangal ☠☠!!

    • @smerjeevski
      @smerjeevski  4 роки тому +2

      Infinit Soldier absolutely. The ratio of how many animals are against eachother matters too. A single hyena vs a pack of strong dogs would be in trouble because dogs are more nimble and agile. But in terms of brute strength hyenas are vastly superior and Dinocrocuta wold have made a snack out of any silly canid that would get close. Thank you!

    • @mociczyczki

      dinocrocuta is aloy biger heavier kangal no Chance but with spotted hyena at similkar weight let assume 75 kg in fight 1 on 1 kangal can win if good avoid hyena teeth and reac hyena throat it can choke hyena to death what kangall really like to do with other dog etc if kangal reach hyena thropat and good setup ots teeth and jaws on it hyena have no other weapon like big cat =powerfoul big sharp claws to effective depend itself from kangal ...so kangal can win sometimes this that it didint hapen most of the time is diffrent story but defenitely not imposiiblke in this case i quess kangal at parity in fight 1 on 1 can win 2 out of 10 fight with spotted hyena .
