- As this one was one of the best races I ever did @thedefiwind , I had to put it online as it is, uncut and raw.
For the last 7 years I always started right in the middle of the starting line and went straight to the beach to look for flat water.
Yesterday in race no. 2 I started the 1st time right down within all the PWA riders. Had clear water and could go 2-3 knots faster than on the 1st day. Thanks for the tip @JordyVonkNED69 !
So in race no. 3 I started right down below again, very close to the boat. Was early so I had to slowed down a bit. Some other sailors just passed my right at the start wich didn't matter as I catched up after a while.
I got faster and faster on the 1st leg, catched up lots of places even if I couldn't go 100% as my fitness level is pretty bad.
Arrived at the 1st mark in 12th position, overtaking Tristan Algret as he went for a little swim :) So I rounded the buoy in a superb 11th place juhuuu!
Accelerated pretty good, got faster and faster, concentrated on the waves and on those 1240 guys coming straight torwards myself. Suddenly there was Johan Søe D-37 right down below, we almost crashed into each other as I didn't see him coming upwind. Sorry for that @johansoe37 :)
After a while there was former Defiwind winner Nicolas Warembourg pushing from behind as I got weaker and slower. I started pushing a bit, could even gain some meters again but I felt in my arms that I coulnd't push until the next mark. I decided to let him go, took it easy to spared some energy for the 2nd jibe.
Arrived there in a good 12th position when Antoine Albeau passed me inside. Right after that jibe I saw Pierre Mortefon pushing from the top. I started pushing as well, but after a while had to spare some energy again. Pierre decided after about half way to go upwind into the sandbanks to find some flat waters to gain some speed. That was a good decision as he overtook me on that run.
Right before mark no. 3 there was Malte Reuscher passing me downwind as I couldn't go full speed anymore. Cramps, pain, stiffness in basically all my body. Only "Les Defieurs" know what I am taking about :)
Arrived in a still very good 13th position at mark no. 3. - when Matteo Iachino just passed me right there. Still came out in 14th place, one more leg to the finish!
Didn't had the energy to push as hard as in the 1st reach. So I heard Maciek Rutkowski coming from behind. Could push a bit to keep him away for a while but was to weak to keep the speed, too exhausted. So I let him pass and went to the inside, looking for some flat waters again. That was the biggest mistake of the race as the finish line was much more downwind than mark no. 2.
So i ended up very too far upwind, had to go downwind a lot, got slower and slower, GPS readings was even under 20 knots :)
Just before the finish line 5 more guys passed me downwind as they went straight into the finish - Armand Genevois, Andres Boje, Ingmar Daldorf, Alex Cousin and Bruno Martini.
Anyway I ended up in a superb 20th place, suuuper happy with that! The wind was between 20 and 40 knots. Used my @jpaustraliacom 62 Slalom and my new @NeilPrydeWind EVOXIII 5.8 and a NoLo Fins Model 5 32.5cm. That combi seems to be incredibly fast.
All shots taken with my @GoPro Hero10
Hope you enjoy the video.
Cheers Andy
i always love seeing uncut footage from Defiwind, really shows how physical these races are. Awesome run Andy!
thanks mate
Best video on a slalom race I've ever saw. Thank you very much, amazing
thanks a lot Cedric!
I was cramping up just watching that, long legs and very rough, well done, great sailing.
hehe just like me :)
Hehe vielen Dank Hans! Es kommen noch 2 weitere Defi Clips. LG
Danke Felix

thanks mate
Thank you so much for sharing, that was amazing !
thanks for watching
Loved every minute of it, Thank you Andy. Felt the pain of every chop and the relief of the flatter water. Great race mate 👍. As an old boy who started windsurf in 1980 and it been a big part of my life ever since, You and your videos inspire me to get out on the water when I'm feeling soft and need a kick in the ass. You are a beast of a sailor🤙 ( even if our body's will not give us as much as they used too).
thanks a lot Neil, really appreciate your feedback! keep pushing :)
Thanks Andy, that was really great footage!
Thanks Simon!
Loved it!
Makes me want to try it out next year.
Thanks for the great videos, as always.
always worth a try :)
Thanks Andy, great video and race report, myself I was happy to be on 5.0!
thanks mate
Man I could feel the burn in your front left arm just by watching, but still great race congrats!
thanks a lot for the full uncut race! Amazing speed and great result. The reach is so long :o
thanks mate
Love to see the raw uncut footage. This way you can really see how intense the Defi wind is:)
yes exactly. those 36 min. feel like ages when you're out there :)
@@AndyLaufer huge respect man!
Really nice Video!!! I'm loving it!
thank you!
Fing nuts. Crazy. Great footage. Feel like I'm there.
Wonderful !
thanks
Awesome footage and loved your race description in the comments!! Well done!!! Very good place!! 👏👏💪💪🚀🚀🏆🏆
thanks Mario
Well done Andy. When you cross the rest of the fleet at full speed, that's so impressive and so scary. I would definitely buy a 20th place, but I'm far too slow to even think about Defiwind. This video is juste like if I made it myself :-). Cheers.
Thanks Joel, really appriciate your feedback :) Cheers
Fantastic to watch
Thanks Mike!
Marathon ! Impressive speed sustain for such a long time and in pretty rough conditions ! Kudo Andy !
thanks Martin
Totally insane! 😀😀😀 Awesome man! Great result also. Next year I will join the race too! 🤙🤙🤙
sound great Jeroen, thanks a lot!
My arms and back were hurting just watching! Amazing run and experience! At 62, my high speed windsurfing days are limited, but I still enjoy my 98L Naish board with a 5.3 on the Delta near San Fran!
thanks Steve
Incredible stability 👍
what a race , thanks for the feeling of an amazing battle !
thanks for watching :)
Thanks a million for this uncut footage! Really great! A 360 camera would be interesting to use in those races.
Up next, in the making. Will be online soon :)
Very nice footage! Thank's for sharing your nice race!
thanks Michael!
Sehr eindrucksvoll!
Dankeschön
thanks for allowing me to be on board. It felt like I was surfing the race myself (in a better version of me)
Fantastic
Voll krass, mann. Echt Wahnsinn. Thumbs up man!!! 💪
Dank Dor Steffen!
That was a great race. You really pushed through some pain. To finish like that and not have great fitness speaks to will power and technique. That first reach looked insane.
thanks Doug!
Super Video 👍🏼
That is a awesome result with all the PWA boys there.
Arm pump looked bad!
*Short arm wetsuit next time and brave the cold 😆
Sick ride! And looks like you have great control all the way of the 40 kilometers.
Thanks mate. I would have needed a Physio in between the jibes :)
Aaaalter!
danke Ralf!
Uncut windsurfing footage rocks! Amazing speed...
thanks Marty
That looks so intense! I could feel your pain in the front arm. Was the harness line too far back? Well done Andy, massive effort and insane speed in those conditions.
Hey Den, thanks a lot. Yes they where slightly too far in the back. At Defiwind, you always have to put them further forward.
Wowwww!!!
It's perfect the beautiful images can't wait to be able to do the defiwind just a little music it will be cool.
Great vídeo 😅
amazing andy!!!!!!
thanks Matteo
Sweet ❤
What a footage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks mate
A great video. I try to understand how all your muscles and tendons were in tension for that long time. Impressive result!
Last year I did an Ammersee crossing from Eching to Diessen in one ride. I was dying multiple times. :) Naja, so bisschen. Meine hintere Wade war aber total fertig...
thanks Matthias!
Very impressive video. It must be really hard to keep the energy over such a long top speed run.
thanks Nils, yes indeed
awesome
thanks mate
thx, i watched the whole thing
so exaiting surf on oncoming traffic
I like the part after 07:15 😜🔥🔥
haaa yes indeed, rollin from the top :))) you finished top5 this one right?
@@AndyLaufer 4th🤟
sogeil!
Reminds me of the desert sand rally of “fear and loathing in Las Vegas”.. how do you even know where the next mark is?
just leep on going straight :)
Well done, and great video. Was the wind at 90 degrees or was it a little upwind on the 2nd leg? Would it be a good idea to have 2 sets of harness lines so you could hook into 1 a little further forward to take the pressure off your front arm? Or would that just make your back arm ache more?
The wind was mostly at about 90 degrees. But shifting a lot within the race. 2 sets of harness lines might be a good option yes. Thanks and cheers
Amazing ! it was so hard that day ! i was sailling between two heats....hard time with your harness lines on the left side no ?
Yes Francois, they where slightly too far in the back. Cheers
You’ re awsome !!! What sail you had? Hope your left arm is ok 🤙
Wow that's awesome.
It's a little miracle that there are no accidents when there are so many riders going in the opposite direction. Or are there?
no accidents, fortunately :)
Amazing - Thanks for this footage! How was each leg to they buoy. It seemed like several km's?
Gutes Rennen, Andi. :)

Hi Andy, it seems that sail tension top to bottom was light, I saw some small folds in front of your wish, that adjustment was for improving power instead of softness?
A trim question....your front hand seems (to me) to be really close to the mast, forward. No?
Are there diffrent classes for foils ?
how many barrels in m / s?
Sehr beeinruckend.

Sonst würden ja alle beim Torstart in Luv starten....
my only concern was that your gps watch dont get loose...last hole and no security loop. THAT was extreme.
I could feel the lactic acid building up in my forearms from just watching the video 😃
hahaaa true :)
Point-7 harness lines?😪
Wheare is this championship ?
Awesome Video, you should make a short starting 20 secs before start boat and Helicopter cross in front of you, you will get a lot of views
To where the 2nd Guy cuts across in front of you
11:50 close call (or rather shout lol)
66.66 km/h
Echt cool mit deinem Alter
merci
Erster 🥇 Cooles Video und Gute Gopro Aufnahmen 👍🏻
Dank Dir :)
