The visit followed Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner’s announcement that the government plan to build 1.5 million new homes by 2029. But questions remain about what percentage of these will be affordable…

They should all be council homes, built by government employed builders so money isn't wasted going in profits to building companies.

No but it will destroy the countryside which is Labours policy

It really won’t, we have only actually built on 1% of the land in the whole country, the countryside isn’t suddenly going to disappear because the rate of house building is increasing

@@olliebell7177 not just that, even though villages and towns in my area are losing their rural environment by joining them together with cardboard box houses and no infrastructure.
Labour has given the go ahead for Europes biggest solar farm in Suffolk. Covering 4000 acres. Already the company building it has destroyed five miles of hedgerows and habitat. There are 4000 solar farms to be built, all in the countryside on green belt and agricultural land. But no doubt not for the local communities but for big towns and cities. So all you eco warriors can be content that we will save the planet to get to net zero. All at the expense of not just rural communities but plants, trees and wildlife. No doubt you’re a Townie so you don’t care

All your comments above are the definition of " not in my backyard". Everyone sees the problem here but UK MPs for decades for the sake of votes let it grow to size which is not manageable. There is no work, no development in so many areas of this country because there is no infrastructure, housing, roads etc which would bring businesses to the area. But at least you have fields and old moulded houses that you can be proud of. In decades to come people will start escaping from this country not to move in because it won't be worth overpaying for a old house with 2 hours commute to work( except maybe unskilled immigrants who will be taken care off). Even 5 years of intensified development won't change much when for the last 50 years the UK was doing nothing. Prepare yourself for brain drain and society of old people which noone to take care of ( caretakers have nowhere to live as nothing is anymore affordable so they will choose Germany, Norway or other country which is more friendly to live in).

@@tataritka Typical Townie comment. It’s not about NIMBY, it’s about management. This solar development is too large and the five miles of habitat destruction is only in one area of this farm. The company have no safety policy, as was revealed at a public enquiry when they said they didn’t need one as the batteries were 100% safe! Nothing is 100% safe. The farm is of no benefit to the area as you harp on about. The energy generated will go to other areas and it will only create 27 jobs. But you don’t care about the decimation of wildlife and plants as long as you get your net zero. Bit hypocritical.
