Fact Check: The Truth About Grooming Gangs
The first signs of widespread child sexual exploitation by gangs in the UK emerged in Rotherham. In 2010, five Asian men were jailed for sexual offences against underage girls in the South Yorkshire market town.
This led to an investigation by The Times which revealed many more girls in the area were being groomed for sex by British-Asian males - and that for many years authorities had often not been taking action despite warnings.
Continued allegations led to an independent report into Rotherham’s problems, which found that children as young as 11 had been beaten and raped by multiple people. Some were abducted and trafficked to other towns and cities.
The report said that about 1,400 children had been sexually exploited between 1997 and 2013 - and this was a “conservative estimate”. The majority of the abusers were predominantly of Pakistani heritage.
Similar exploitation was uncovered in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, when a child sex ring of nine men, eight of Pakistani and one of Afghan origin, were jailed in 2012 for exploiting girls as young as 13. Again it turned out that many victims had been dismissed as “child prostitutes” who did not want or deserve help. Rotherham and Rochdale have undoubtedly become the most notorious examples of these kinds of crimes, but many other areas have been affected too.
In the Shropshire town of Telford, up to 1,000 children could have been abused since the 1980s by sex gangs targeting girls as young as 11. In Huddersfield, another 20 British Asian men mainly of Pakistani heritage were convicted in 2018, having “used and abused” girls, who were plied with drink and drugs.
Asian gangs have also been jailed for grooming girls in Oxford, Derby, Bradford, Halifax and the Buckinghamshire town of Aylesbury.
As debate rages about whether there should be a national public inquiry into a child sex abuse scandal that rocked the country, here are the key issues, fact checked.

Shein Blasted By MPs For 'Contempt' During Business And Trade Committee
Переглядів 2,9 тис.12 годин тому
MPs investigating the use of forced labour in products sold to UK consumers have strongly criticised a representative of fast-fashion firm Shein, after she declined to answer questions about whether it uses cotton from China’s Xinjiang region. Liam Byrne, chair of the Business and Trade Select Committee, told the Shein lawyer that MPs were “horrified by the lack of evidence that you have provid...

Once again the media trying to defiate from the main issue
Er! So, this wasn't an issue when the Conservatives were in power?
Strayuns love to think their Liberals are conservative. They are wrong. Strayuns have 2 inalienable rights. They have the right to vote any degree of leftism desired. Secondly, they have the right to be a defenceless victim of crime. (I'm not thinking guns btw) + they are eminently proud of this right.
Yo, it ain't like it was before! Now if y'all want to live, if you want to survive, you got to fight for it! I'm talking about fighting right here, right now!
How can you fact check when the report states that the ethnicity of victims and perpetrators was routinely NOT recorded. The question is whether that was deliberate… most likely considering some of the comments that are coming out.
Sorry Conservatives you elected the wrong leader there You lost the next election
They said this in 2009 when the banking crash happened. Now look at the prices. Aslong as the population keeps increasing and new homes not keeping up then house prices will continue to climb.
Thanks to the internet I knew this was going on in 2005, but there was a massive government and media cover up.
It would destroy his Pakistani/ Asian/Muslim vote!!!!
Burst the bubble
Inquiry is not needed what is needed is investigation and prosecution, that is how the money needs to be spent not on another inquiry, COME ON GUYS WAKE UP a inquiry is not going to stop the gangs, prosecution and jail may, what is needed is Justice not a inquiry to tell you what you already know, grooming Gangs in the Pakistani community are very common in all cities and its usually the Take aways that are TAKING AWAY the young girls and the cars full of young Pakistani men. Is this racist how can it be im half Asian.
disingenuous partisan hand waving hot air at best. you should speak to Jon Wedger. no word on ex Labour MP Ivor Caplin ? no one ever seems to mention the ‘Labour 25’ list either. weird, huh. ‘fAcTcHEcK’ those.
Ed Davey w⚓
I see on today’s news that a Pakistani gang of 5 have been jailed for up to 16 years for using GRIDR to attract gay guys for a rendezvous and then mugging & brutalising them. It’s a shame that the Authorities didn’t move that fast to deal with these rape gangs who were traumatising young girls.
Complete failure of elected officials and the main stream media - BBC, Guardian and Others for more than 2 decades. BBC, Guardian, .. should have reported/investigated these issues couple of decades ago rather than meddling into the affair of other countries. Best of luck UK!!
its the same for the Labour party too. Reinventing themselves with every new leader.
What about the redistribution of wealth. Aren't the super rich creating an unprecedented demand for luxury items. Hasn't their wealth increased dramatically since COVID. Doesn't this need to be redistributed somehow. That would stimulate growth, wouldn't it?
All this because people dont want to admit this is an incompatible culture in the long run.
😮😅
Well do something then !!!! Contemp this ,,disgraceful that...! Now what ! Off camera,,, Quietly shake hands & apologie for coming down a bit heavy.. sorry about that ! Any road,,,as long as we can get stuff for pennies off temu ey !!! Ohhhh,,the door bell 🔔
Sadly, the answer was already proposed by Truss / Kwarteng. Using government borrowing to Lower taxes, reduce regulation, incentivise investment in business. The market & BoE undermined that budget.
Can you provide evidence that Starmer didn’t cover up or play down the scale of grooming gangs ? Not someone said ie a report, enquiry etc
it wlll crash when the banks want it to crash
India had already this type cases in Ajmer Rajasthan 1992
Hate him
This misses the point, the constant being that the financial sector decides who runs the country, not voters.
She's just as political as them. She's a Labour lawyer and he's asking about products I get why she is telling them to # off
Ed Davey needs to be criticising Labour not Reform. Anyway, why worry, neither he nor his party pose any problems to Reform or any other political party.
The statistics are not reliable, especially regarding the real unemployment in the middle "white collar" jobs, where masses of people are unemployed, and wages are hugely depressed. They switched from employment surveys to numbers of job ads , which tells a lot.
Will you cover IVOR CAPLIN
Repeat after me … Pakistani not south Asian
Repeat after me. Pakistani Muslim men not south Asian grooming gangs….
I'm not sure Ed Davies got anything to Crow about the only reason he's got 70 seats in the house of Parliament is cause everybody didn't want to vote for labour and didn't want to vote for the Conservatives at the next election. He'll lose them all he's done absolutely jack shit He's a nothing politician who does nothing except stunts when he wants to be elected. He's got nothing new to say we shouldn't have the voting system that we have, but his party never came out and explained what they wanted to change it to when they had the chance to vote on itthey are useless
Sons and Daughters of Adam an Eve sharing their love bonds till the day of judgement....Abrahamic forever....Hallelujah ✝️🫂☪️Inshallah ❤❤❤
Look up Ivor Caplin
Ivor caplin has literally just been exposed for alleged communications with a minor. He's all over the web obvs mainstream media isnt showing this. But labour are 100 percent covering this up. They put the Islamic vote for Labour above the raping of our kids. They cowtail to these minorities an appease them so they get there vote. To say kier isn't covering this up is wholly untrue. The jay report named 6 towns Rotherham was named once he knows that report aint fit for purpose. He's totally covering it up
Ivor Caplin
How long can this hardy faced prime minister keep this act going. The clock is ticking his Time is running out. He won’t resign ,he’ll have to be pushed out. His type don’t realise when the shows over.
Davy made an unholy pact in a coalition with Cameron to bring in austerity which has unalived thousands of people
The fact of the matter is - when you uncover a gang of this nature, you go after it. You don’t give a specific race a pass. The point of the inquiry is that the state has totally failed the people, it’s revolting.
But gov makes things about race no? To deflect, divide and ignore
3.9 percent where only Pakistani... The rest white men.....
They're all at it in the house of lords.believe me!
‘Labour 25’ list
The Conservatives did implement some of the recommendations.
No justice no peace.
Allowing child grapes so as to not seem racist is the most disgusting and disappointing thing I think I've ever heard about recent British politics.
@Shelly-j3m and no one did anything about it, shame on them
One could note so many parallels between these two election years - 1974 was the first after the UK's entry into what would become the EU, while 2024 was the first after the UK left the EU; also, both years featured elections whose results were disproportionate, with 1974 (February, anyway) seeing Labour win more seats despite the Conservatives getting the most votes, whereas in 2024 Labour won with the smallest share of the vote in electoral history (and it will long be noted that Reform UK, despite polling the third highest share, won less than 1% of the seats). Having not been alive in 1974 I can't comment on which year I think was more difficult to live in, but I was around in 1997 and I feel that Labour's victory in that year was more decisive and positive than in 2024. And, at least pre-Iraq, Blair's government did well enough to maintain public confidence when the following election was called in 2001, while Starmer's has already done enough in less than a year to make it almost certain that Labour will lose the next time round.
Bollox.
Parliament demonstrated that there was no such thing as a good Brexit.. they considered several options but NONE OF THEM were acceptable to the members of parliament put there to represent their interests. This was the reality of Brexit
But 17.4 million people should never have decided the fate of 67 million!
Support your own people. Absolutely ridiculous
