Are Magic & Kareem the best Guard-Big Man duo of all-time?
🎧: sprtspod.fox/Ep.57
Yea they are by a comfortable margin
They are by 2 reasons. They squeezed every ounce of juice left they could as teammates and they won more than any other duo
nothing comes close.
Stockton Malone.
They are the best NBA Duo of all time. Period.
People forget how good of a storyteller he is, love listening to him.
Magic's smile has always been contagious, he literally controls any room he's in...
He’s so real and clear in his communication style.
I don't think anyone forgets, some just don't know
I don't think anyone forgets, some just don't know
If the mind is right the mind never forgets.
Magic helped Kareem rediscover the love the game. Before Magic, he was amazing, but he seemed sort of burdened by his role of having to carry the league. After Magic shows up he seemed to enjoy the game again and I think it reminded him of more innocent times back when he was at UCLA. The first step was that role in Airplane where it seemed like he was trying to remake his image somewhat. Magic finished off what Airplane started and helped Kareem to enjoy the game again. He started to look for the high fives and love from Magic. People talk a lot about the level of talent Magic had with the Lakers, but Magic was the best thing that happened to Kareem at that stage of his career.
To me the only thing that I have to knock Kareem below Jordan is the fact that he had 1 championship the first half of his career(granted the lakers had to trade most of their team to get him) but he needed some magic (literally and figuratively) to come in and turn that team into a dynasty through his energy, charisma and leadership and so Kareem was not the leader and driving force of his last 3 championships where as Jordan was the leader, best player and driving force of all 6 bulls championships, but Kareem was still unbelievable.
@@ULuvBobs_92While I agree, you could say the same about Jordan and Pippen (except the driving part). No matter how great a player is, they need great team mates to win championships also.
@@perman07 and I agree that people who use the 6-0 in the finals argument for Jordan are shortsighted because it’s a team game. Any statistical analysis will tell you Wilt Chamberlain was better than Bill Rusell but Bill Russell won because he had 7/8 Hall of Famers on his team. So the fact that it is a team game does get lost in translation when people talk about who are the greatest players of all time.
@ULuvBobs_92 right jordan had 0 chips and couldn't move to a final first half of career.
Nobody brought excitement to the game like Magic Johnson. He was in a different time zone running the point 💪

@@jasonmurdoc9533 yes Marovich was the architect of his era

Plus my Step*Dad was a Coach....Lakers Fanatic
and still no one can replicate these legends and other legends
Kareem was an emotionally wounded person, and Magic gaining big bro’s trust and being his friend allowed him to have fun again. Thank goodness for Magic.
He brought fun and enjoyment to everybody he was around he won over Kareem with his enthusiasm and love for life
God works through people.
Story never gets old. Top 3 duo of all time in my opinion.
*in everyone’s opinion*

Yo Shannon, this is the freest I've ever seen Magic during an interview. And you know he's always Magic in front of the camera. So that says it all.
Magic is always like this have you seen his documentary
@@deesee2051 it was really good...especially the early years b4 the NBA
Dude Magic looked more relaxed on prime time Letterman than here I guess you never really watching him talk.
When Magic tells a story, you better listen because he gets you interested from start to finish
Magic is the ultimate hype man. He can make anything sound epic when he tells the story
Smartest athlete he's ever met in his life is saying more than people can ever imagine!! 💯
Moral of the story is; Kareem ain't high fiving no bums.
hes lo-fiving them all from his tower😎
This interview should win an Emmy.
Every Magic's interview is Emmy quality. The guy is born storyteller.
There's a unwritten overstanding when watching two former or even present athletes converse. This might be Shay's best interview...
ShoNuff
This is facts
Right it's a reason magic is a legend..people don't realize what it takes to make a championship it's deeper than just on the court it's a brotherhood and having understanding what it takes to win and learning how to become complimentary players to one another which brings me to LeBron yes he's old and shouldn't be doing what he is but the great ones put the team on they back it's what has always separated LeBron from Jordan and even Kobe even though some people think he has passed him and I'ma LeBron fan the truth is the truth
I swear I can listen to Magic talk all day 😂💯
Magic seem like one of the funniest players to play with ever.
Magic and Kareem brought so much joy. I grew up a Jordan fan but these guys made the game fun and exciting. When Showtime Lakers were on the TV, it was must see TV. Seeing these stories by Magic are priceless.
Kareem stood on his square and still does
I'll say it again, I could listen to Magic tell basketball stories all day long!
This is one of the reasons why Magic is the best TEAMMATE of all time. He made his whole squad better, not by beating them down like Jordan did, but by hyping them up. Not to mention his ability to make anybody on the team score like crazy. If you want a team to shine, not just one player, pick Magic at the one.
He perfectly embodies the heart of basketball. Its a team sport. You'd want someone that passionate on your team hyping everyone up.
Winning time is such a good show ! I was wondering how accurate it was and this scene was exactly how it was on the show !
The excitement in his face and hand movements make the stories so enjoyable. I love it!
Magic can tell the same story a thousand and 1 times and I'd wait on the thousand and 2nd to be told
I love me some Magic and Kareem Greatest Player Ever and I’m a lifelong Sixers fan but have the Greatest respect for them!
A lot of Kareem in Kobe as far as the hard work and not celebrating to early and taking the game for a real career.
Magic Johnson extended Kareem's career by at least an additional 5 to 6 years. Magic is a key part of the reason that Kareem got that all time points record (for now!) And a part of the reason that Kareem became the oldest Finals MVP in history. They are the greatest NBA duo in history and both are legit GOAT status.
Magic got three NBA MVP awards while playing along side Kareem, as Kareem was on the down side of his illustrious career. People need to cut it out-talking about Magic can't be considered the goat because he played along side Kareem. Stop it!🤣🙄🤦♂️🤣🤣
We will never see another NBA team with two players considered to be legit GOAT ever again.
Facts 💯
FACTZ AND WELL SAID!!
@@moeeshangpate6320
And let me put the nail in the coffin to start my day. Yes, The Shaq and Kobe Lakers did three peat but none of those teams they beat in the finals were ever considered historically great teams, who won NBA championships, with multiple hall of famers on them. The Magic and Kareem led Lakers lost to the Celtics, Pistons and Bulls; three teams who were historically great teams, each with at least three hall of famers on them. In 1990 the Pistons were the first team to repeat in 20 years. Don't let me leave out how good those early 1980's Philadelphia 76ers were with Maurice Cheeks, Moses Malone and Dr. J...
When you think about the teams those Lakers had to beat in the 1980's to become champions, when you think about Magic winning The Finals MVP as a rookie, against the greatest Philadelphia 76er team ever ensembled (So far!), When you think about how Magic had to come in to the League, stand up to Kareem, win Kareem over and change the culture of the Lakers, when you factor in all these things, it's hard not to call Magic the GOAT in every aspect of the word. And without a doubt, Magic and Kareem are the greatest tandem in NBA history.
The Michael Jordan led bulls won six championships and only beat a historically great team or a team that won a championship or multiple championships in the Finals, once. (Which was Magic and the Lakers themselves.)
Magic led Laker teams that did it multiple times. People need to think about that when they compare Mike to Magic.
*People like to get triggered and speak with their heart and emotions, not logic and facts.*
@@statusboom-x6348 spurs aren’t great now lol
@@statusboom-x6348 the lakers repeated in 88
Now im imagining 70s Magic ballin out with a boombox and flashlight back in the day lol
Kareem seemed like a Jerry rice type of person. Boy gotta loosen up , you can have fun and still win fam lol not everything gotta be so serious
Best personality in NBA history. Top 3 leader along with Bill Russell and Tim Duncan
Kareem coming up to magic: 😃✋
The Lakers show about their first season with Magic as a rookie and a little before that is one of the best things I've ever seen about sports. Glad they figured it out!
Kareem obviously the 2nd greatest ever behind Jordan tbh if your not bringing Kareem into the goat conversation it’s NOTHING to talk about 💯
This interview is about to be a classic.
Became a Laker fan because of Magic. After the Showtime era I realized that my "fandom" had an expiration date. 32 was SPECIAL!!!
Same, in 1985, I was 12 and he captivated me with his joy!
Eavin (Magic)Johnson Was Great As A point Guard. Never Seen A 6Foot8 Run The Show For The Lakers Those Wonderful Years.🏀
I love this story! I've imagined the whole thing playing out
The greatest point God in NBA history. How many titles he would of won hadn't certain things didn't happen. I know the greatness of magic Johnson on and off the court. He's a great ambassador for the league and young bucks.
Thats why Magic and kareem worked and Shaq and kobe didnt. Magic was humble enough to realize the Lakers were Kareem's team and Jabbar was humble enough to give way to Magic in 87. Arguably the best complimentary superstars since Bill Russell and Bob Cousy before them and Jordan and Pippen after them. Jokic and Jamal are threading to this direction.
At the end of the day. You may disagree with the path you think is right. But being able to gain respect and be respected is key.
Awesome stories on Kareem!!
Now I gotta go watch the whole episode
Facts 💯
thats howu know this man is a stand up guy. he downlays his role to lift is colleagues up. he is right about what he says about any of them but he is the man who made people really start watching the NBA all over the world, he made it fun to watch and then ofcourse Mike took it to another level.
Love club shay shay interviews
Magic really is magic
Shae, i love your show man. Keep doing what you love. 🙏
I can sit and listen to Magic for hours.
i am LOVING the Winning Time show. and, even tho Magic's been sayin' the show's got stuff wrong....from what I've been hearing from this and other interviews...I think the show's got the gist of things pretty down pat.
i've also just finished watching the Legacy documentary. but, nothing beats the real guys talking freely like in this type of interviews and others like em.
Pure Gold right here! Tell me different
Much Gratitude
Ps Magic is my favorite player, ever.
Great story 💯✊🏿
Magic is a great story teller

Love Magic...my best player of all time😊😅
Kareem had 5 MVP's when Magic Got there Kareem completely dominated the 70's
@randyholliday5626 ...False!
excellent story of two of my alltime favorites and heroes.
Watching this video over and over again
Man that's a nice story bout that team.
My FAVOURITE Laker/Player of ALL TIME!!!
THIS is why Magic - to me - can't be touched (J Kidd is the closest for me) as the Greatest PG/Playmaker of All Time : "Where you want it??? Which Hand??? At what pace???"....Until he came along...PGs ran the offense and you had to be where they said it was....Magic was the FIRST guy I've ever seen who saw the Game through his TEAMMATES' eyes, and figured out what was the best way to utilize their skillsets!!!....You like to get going to the hoop? Imma get it to you....You like to catch it off the bounce in the midrange? Imma put it in your hands....You like to curl off a pick at the 3-pt line? Be READY!....The Best to EVER do it!!!
No question!!!!!!
@@TheNatedoggva Also...That 1991 Finals run was possibly his crowning achievement...He BOSSED it that year...! Came up short, but still....!
@Scott Holder Man I'll say if not for the Lakers injuries, Jordan maybe has 5 and Magic has 6! Then who's the G.O.A.T??? I don't think it would be Mike

Magic is a good dude
oh my god. i love magic. i love kareem. and i love shannon.
Kareem is like a legit intellectual that just happened to be 7’2 and athletic. Really! My jaw dropped when I heard an interview with him. But with that being said he probably needed a bit of magic to relax 👍
KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR IS THE GOAT 🐐
Lebron James is the GOAT .. you drunkard old man. Go drink some ripple
Yeah no
Yes he is most underrated misunderstood man...
Why not greatest center
He won exceptionally well at ALL LEVELS of basketball
Magic is the greatest story teller ever!!!!
its a toss u between him and isiah thomas
Kareem is the best player ever.
How can you not love Magic?
What’s sad is that the respect Kareem had for the game (“We’ve got 81 more games!”) has been displaced by over the top celebrations for every mundane slam dunk and three point shot. While Magic’s exuberance was special at the time, in hindsight it set a bad precedent.
Infectious Enthusiasm!!!
Off charisma alone he the goat
Classic talk
Two really good dudes from similar type backgrounds
Kareem was not only beat up sometimes he was double-teamed when he was FORTY!
And that's people,, what differs a great player who's also a leader to a 'merely' great player. I believe such traits (leadership) is what separates these top-level greats from the other greats which more often than not shows in their championship pedigree. It ain't just about individual capability. That's why guys like Melo or Kd or Kyrie never won it when they were asked to be the leader of their team.
storytime always live .
He didnt mind being Kareem's rookie. Fetching water. Food runs on the road. In 1979 it was the normal rookie process. Today, they call it hazing.
"Where my high five?"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great basket ball story.
Awesome story 🔥
Magic Johnson is top 5 all-time.
Magic really is one of the GOATs.
Classic work
0:45 Magic finds out Kareem is quiet. Magic is the opposite.
1:05 Kareem tells Magic to shut it down with the energy.
1:21 Magic asks Kareem where he would like Magic to pass the ball to him. Kareem had never had anyone ask him that question.
1:44 Magic gets Kareem his Gatorade and hot dogs to gain his trust.
2:06 Kareem’s game winning skyhook from the free throw line.
2:36 Kareem tells Magic never to be so high after every game.
2:52 Magic fights back.
3:25 Kareem isn’t into the energy first 20 games. Next 20 games he’s looking. He then dunks and gives high five. 3:43
And the Showtime Lakers were born.
Yall "took off" is an understatement...
Magic could be the Logo

Dream team Magic was locked in 😂
Kareem likely became reserved because he felt the weight of carrying everyone else’s expectations. However, once he found someone to share the load, he began to open up.
As a six-time MVP and an activist, he couldn’t afford to be like everyone else. He was a role model that others looked up to, and that immense responsibility required significant sacrifices.
i love shay but he went and posted 22 videos so far from the original podcast. someone is on the ball with these uploads
Good for you, Magic Man, someone had to help change his condescending attitude and become the best teammate he could be.
Love ya even tho I am A Raiders Nation 4Life.
Kareem is the GOAT for me - James and Jordan need to sit down.
Skip can’t get a D1 athlete to wanna speak w him meanwhile Shannon having full on interviews with Magic and other HOF’ers. Athletes love Shannon. He needs to do his own show and bounce skip
Yeah but they make a dynamic duo and they haven't ran their course yet. Skip still in his prime. Then end of his prime but still in his prime due to the addition of Shannon. Eventually after Lebron and Tom retire I'm sure Skip will eventually get tired as well...But for now they are showtime...
Another delusional hater
Deluded
I luv this 💯 do your homework kidz it's other great , great legends other than Jordan if you didn't know 🤔
If there is GOAT that would be Kareem. He beats Wilt, Larry, Michael, Dr.J. He is undisputable GOAT
Kareem's still uptight.
Just introverted. He never wanted to be famous. He just wanted to be great at basketball, and respected.
Oh yeah, I told Steven King, “That’s good Steve, you should write it down”.
And I told Jeff Bezos he should check out the library if he wanted a book so bad.
