    I and college friends of mine watched Dr. J's around the backboard shot in 1980. To this day it's easily one of most exciting plays I have ever seen. Every single dude I knew who played basketball was trying to replicate that shot.

    This is what mentorship can do to change a young man’s life. Lots of athletes that become broke after getting caught in the high life and retiring. Glad that Dr.J took time and his financials to impact magic life. Magic has in turn changed communities with his investment!!

    Magic no doubt has been very fortunate in getting that oportunity, sounds like it was a huge foundational experience for him and set his decision to turn pro into stone. Same again with his solid relationship with Dr Buss. Really sounds like a great friendship and mentorship.

    That's amazing. I'm from Philly, grew up an ardent Sixers' fan. Can't believe Doc had Magic to his home during the playoffs. Makes me wonder how other many stories like this exist that we don't know about. Sadly, I was at that final game 7 mos. later when the Lakers beat us on our home court, right behind the basket. I can see Magic smiling from ear to ear. Great story, thanks for sharing.

    This is like the 2 cool uncle's kicking it at the cookout! I'm from the same city that Magic is from... He was a definite inspiration even tho I was a Pistons fan. Every Sunday it was either LA vs. Boston or a double header & they both played.

    I was friends who were integrally involved with an NBA team and they related to

    Shows you why this is my fave NBA player. He had so much respect for the game and the players in it. What a great clip! BTW, that final game of his rookie year is why I call him the greatest NBA player I have ever seen. Who does that during their rookie year WITHOUT arguably the greatest player at the time playing the game, The Captain. Love Magic!

    The first basketball game I saw live was in 1971. The Indiana Pacers played the Virginia Squires. The Squires’ starting forwards were Julius Irving and George Gervin.

    Me and my friends watched that shot and it took our breath away the idea that he thought of a way to make that shot clearly call the Lakers off guard. The Lakers did everything right they cut him off with the baseline and he still made the shot legally but illegal to gravity
