All that SPL stuff is great. Great video!

I definitely get the sense of some sort of frequency delay happening, especially when you crank the "bigness" knob. Very much an 'out-of-phase' feel to me, which makes me feel woozy, but in small doses it's pretty nice!

Yeah man, for sure. All the "fake", or unnatural widening hardware, or software is working off mainly some type of phase shift/phase anomalies. Some do it a little different than others, but at the end of the day, that's pretty much the basis of it, that its messing with the phase lol. I use certain fake widening stuff quite often, and I think that it's gotten better over the years in some regard, maybe I'm wrong, but I'll always remember back when I first started, like 16 years ago, a certain bigger engineer I looked up to telling me to be careful when it comes to "fake widening" stuff, and that he pretty much stayed away. I didn't even come to try it, or use any until just like 6-7 years ago, so I'm not too sure what he was referring to in terms of hardware, or what plugins did these things back then, but I've always understood what he meant, and it was just that, it has the potential to fk things up pretty quick hah. That said there's some great sounding tools out for it in the past decade, which leads me to believe that it's gotten to a point where it's become a bit more easily to use creatively, and even technically to even remedy certain things, or like phase issues in recording, so yeah, just about using your ears in some cases, but as long as you realize it's phase it's working off is the main thing right hah, and like you said, small doses. I find for creative purposes that's usually the ticket.

Sorry to disappoint, I nulled it to a side high shelf in Pro-Q. Really bummed out about that, planned to get the hardware before the plugin came out. The openness control moves the shelf down to low frequencies, the stage affects its slope. SPL Airbass is just a simple smiley eq with a 6dB Hi Pass. There appears to be no echoing, no dynamics, saturation, no nothing...

I saw this topped with simple side EQ in Pro-Q3.

I actually mostly keep that bass switch turned off because most of that output volume lowering done by auto gain compensation is because of that bass, if you turn it down you can get the whole track like 2dB louder so when you copy the air bass switch turned off to B and do the auto gain there and then compare A and B you might change your mind about using that switch on master bus ;-)

    Nice side high shelf eq

I mean, that's not quite accurate.

I was going to try give somewhat of an explanation of how it's different, and some thoughts on it, and other devices in the same realm, but I'll just copy an article on the Big that I read.
The Big manipulates the sterio image, or sound stage, and when used judiciously, the sterio width, presence, and depth can be altered while maintaining accuracy, and overall mix balance. Big works off the components of sterio audio that have little, or no correlation between the left/right channels. Sterio L/R audio coming into the Big is algebraically summed (S=L/R) to produce a full spectrum signal that contains only non correlated information, and phase anomalies such as those generated by reverb, room acoustics, multiple mics, or delays. This signal is fed into a highly modifies state-variable filter. A typical state-variable filter is capable of producing low pass, high pass, and band pass outputs all at the same time, and all from a single audio input.
Basically it goes on, and explains all the different EQ points, and a few other things about the method they use, but before I decided to share this, I was basically just going to say, with any type of hardware, or software that's essentially widening sterio information unnaturally, (I'm not sure about mid/mono information) , but it's always working off some type phase anomalies, for better, or worse. Also, it's not just basic EQ, M/S EQ, or side EQ in parallel, or something, and those can't really do anything that can force the width of the information out unnaturally, or to the extent stuff like this does. Theres kinda some trickery involved, and theres different hardware pieces, and plugins that do image widening, and depth stuff, whether full side spectrum information, or isolated Band dependent stuff, and they aren't all created equal, but they all work from introducing a lot of phase shift in one way, or another, and if they say they don't create phase shift, that's just a fancy way of saying, it can be done without sounding apparently phasey, and bad. Basically anytime you're using something to do this, whether hardware, or those width knobs on all the plugins these days, they are messing with the phase pretty heavily. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but I always try to be pretty cautious, or sparing when I use them. Any fake wideness stuff like this has a potential to mess things up, and pretty quick.

    Worthless !!!
Front back depth does NOT exist. It's a scam basically.

I agree that one knob front to back depth doesn’t exist. It does exist with a combination of techniques though.
      No easy button for depth.
